I'm happy with my iPad. I don't know whether it's perfect to other peoples standards but it's perfect for me. This forum makes you very paranoid, as I was convinced that I had a dud screen due to the warm tones. However the whites look white and clean both in dark and light conditions and blacks look rich and even with no backlight bleed.

not really an accurate representation of the white balance, but meh.

I've gone through four iPads. Fourth one was the charm, but if I'm honest with myself it's a tad on the warm side and a smidge darker on the lower right. But so what. Beautiful screen overall. And a week ONE unit at that.

I HAVE had, however, the pink/green tint and the piss yellow with splotchy patches of even pissier yellow. Out of four iPads, two have had issues as well as several more I checked out at my neighborhood Apple store. So to say there isn't a problem is ignorant. But I'm willing to bet most people just aren't discerning enough, so a slight pink/green tint doesn't bother them.

What about this one? This was my first iPad, from my eyes the left side was red and the right side was green, so I got a replacement, the yellow one from the earlier picture. Trying to get a third replacement =P

Well...the one on the right has a strong blue colour to it. Still prefer the left one.

<Original Post>

I believe there's an issue, but my problem is that people hear about the apparent issue and then read too much into it and claim that their iPads are really, really bad in this respect when they're not. I've seen some photos of 3rd generation iPads here where I've said "Return it, it's your hard-earned money" but then countless threads where I can't really see the issue at all and am somewhat sure that the original poster has simply looked too hard for the issue and convinced themselves that their iPad has it. Also, when I read about people who have purchased absurd amounts of iPads (I think 15 is the record...) because of this issue I just find it hard to understand as I've purchased 3 3rd gen iPads for my mum, sister and myself, and no matter how hard I look I can't really see any major issues.

Still, people are being incredibly harsh to you, and I'll reiterate my point that it's your hard earned money at work, so you should get the best out of it.

My iPad3 is perfect.

Anyone that shows up 4 and 5 times seeking replacements at the Apple store should be refunded, labeled a lunatic, and blacklisted from all Apple stores for life or until they can produce a doctors note that says they are not certifiable.

Now look what we have here, someone that seems to know it all and one that can diagnose someone online.

Please do tell me how this world ever revolved without you!?!?

I don't understand the purpose of this thread. To me, it's very simple, if you are unhappy with the screen on your iPad, then you take it back to Apple and get a new one or request a refund. IMHO, there's no need to post pictures to "prove" that your screen is good or bad because the only eyes that matter are those of the iPad owner.

They all have problems.

Nonsense.

There is a thread on this forum that has a survey of how happy people are with their iPads/Screens. About 5-6% say they have screen issues. And this is coming from people who for obvious reasons are going to be pickier than the general public.

Do some have screen issues? Sure, I had one. But this "screen lottery" nonsense is all blown out of proportion just like the old iPhone "antennae gate" issue was.

I too am happy with my screen.
I don't care if it has yellow/ pink/ red/ etc etc colors if I cant's see them in my normal usage.

Mine's still perfect and I'm not going to do anything special to prove otherwise. I know I have OCD, ask my friends and family. I looked it over when I bought it, read the forums about light leak and tint issues, none of which I have and a once over of the screen looks pixel perfect too.

Why try and find a perfect item if you know that nothing made is perfect? Just think about what could be wrong on the inside! The battery could have an issue or something crazy! STOP scrutenizing the darn thing!

TRANSLATION: "I am so important that people are required to attempt to prove something to me." So, in addition to having Acute OCD, you really are truly full of yourself.

[Attempt at rational discussion.]
Having slightly warmer color doesn't indicate any sort of defect as "white" is defined and calibrated slightly differently based on device, screen technology, client specifications, manufacturing plant, and date of manufacturing. Inaccurate color reproduction (i.e. mixed colors) would indicate a defect and judging by most reports, including posts on MR, these are a dime a dozen.

Umm, where did I mention anyone was required to post a pic? And how would posting a pic possibly satisfy any sense of self importance? I am a NYer too. I have full respect for someone who can bust chops well. You kinda suck at it.

So you're saying that mixed color screens are in fact defective, and the reports of that are a dime a dozen.

So which side are you arguing? You seem quite confused.

Every once in a while, a thread comes along that overhypes a problem with a particular product (e.g. iPod nano batteries, Antennagate, 2010/2011 MBP screen issues, ipad 2 screen isues, 3rd gen iPad being hot, etc, etc..). It then goes on to bash all users of that product, by calling them "blind", "dumb", "technically inept", not being able to see/recognize the problem, etc.. This last bit is specifically what I can't stand; when one makes statements like "I know that most of <insert product here> are defective but most users refuse to admit it.." and implies that there is undeniable proof to their theory. These kinds of posts add nothing to discussion and serve only as flame bait for people to be able to satisfy their inflated egos.

I won't argue further, nor try to prove anything beyond this. I own two 3rd gen iPads, one of the earliest batches (preordered on day one). The display hue on both is slightly warmer than the iPad 2 (circa Sept. 2011) but that is in no way indicative of display quality and/or defect. I have seen few more of new iPads *on my college campus, as well as in Apple store and Target and none seemed to have "bad" screens.

/Take it or leave it.

Who the hell has the time or inclination to get on like this over a bloody iPad screen?

OP, while I'm jealous of your free time, and obvious lack of something better to worry about, I do feel you've got issues.

If your "brilliant" response is to pretend like you don't get what he very clearly said (which was that there are in fact problem screens, but that there are very few of them in reality), then you kinda suck at busting chops too.

A dime a dozen probably isn't the best choice of words to convey "very few". Just sayin.

Seriously, if topics like this don't exist, dead pixel, screen bleeding, screen tint..etc... No way in hell people would notice that.
My ipad has a very small dead pixel in the middle of the screen but very hard to notice unless I have white back ground on and look real close. Normally, the screen looks perfect to me. If I didn't come across some topic about that, I wouldn't have bothered to check that. Being way too picky will just make you frustrated and waste your time.

Uneven red and green tints could possibly be argued as being just a property of a particular breed of LCD technology. But a dead pixel is just *broken*. You have a broken display. I'm amazed anyone would tolerate that. You paid the same money for a product the next guy did, and his is worth more because his isn't broken. Think about that.

I wasn't sure if buying this new ipad bcoz of these screen issues, yesterday I got it and my screen is very close to perfect... not sure how to check in a scientific way bcoz it's my first ipad, this is it. p.s. that's not a dead pixel:)

That screen looks fantastic ...congrats. I am having my fair share of bad screens and you definitely have a great one! Enjoy
