Wrote Caudabe support hoping to get some good news that PARAGON would be shipping at the end of September.

Received this reply within a day of my inquiry:

Thank you so much for the email! As noted on the product page when placing the order, Paragon is a pre-order item. We expect it to be in stock and ready to ship by early October.
That’s a shame. Not sure how you could fumble releasing a phone case by weeks / a month of the phone launch. Ordered my Paragon when it was “late September, early October”. First Caudabe. Used to go no case or apples leather case. Currently using apple silicone but it’s probably the worst case I’ve owned. Slippery and the usb-c port cut out is sharp on my finger.

Hopefully they ship paragons soon. Crazy nobody has seen it or gotten their hands on it to test yet.

...Also, the outside seems „rougher“ than the old version. Could be that the sheath on my 12 is already worn down a bit, but it‘s only a couple of weeks old (I just recently ordered it in August, thinking that I would keep the 12 for a couple more months, but in the end couldn‘t resist the temptation of getting the 16 on release)...
I'm actually glad to hear this. It looked that way from pics I've seen but it's hard to tell just in photos. I liked the Sheath on my 13 Pro but would have liked a little more texture for added grip, so hopefully I'll like the current version even better.

I have 3 Sheaths and they all are fine. There could be a little wiggle but majority of cases with these butt s are going to have a little give in it.
I understand that, but the power button doesn’t have that wiggle… So my question is: Which one is the intended version?

If it is intended to be as firm as the power button, then the volume buttons seem to be a quality control issue…

If it is normal to be as wiggly, then why is the power button so firm?

The case just cost too much to be of „meh“ precision…

Hope you like it… For my taste, I liked the smoother version better, it was still more than grippy enough. This one is a little too „coarse“ for my liking. Maybe it will smoothen over time…

My experience: when I don't have the case on, the buttons wiggle a little bit. But, when the case is on the phone, there's almost no wiggling. Definitely no rattling. The new buttons are actually one of the favorite parts of the case for me. Really clicky and they look great.

Yeah, I also like more texture rather than less. I've been a Synthesis guy in the last year because of this. The grip on the sides on my Synthesis 15PM is great.

But, interestingly, I got my Synthesis in last week and then got another Sheath in earlier this week. I'm getting ready to send back my Synthesis even though that's what I've been using for the last year. The Sheath feels awesome in the hand. I'd forgotten how much I really like that texture since it's been a while since I've used it.

I've also got a Paragon on preorder that I'm really curious about, but the Sheath is every bit as good as it was when I had it as my main case. I may get another Synthesis going forward, who knows.

Yeah, the new buttons are really terrific. What color do you have? I have the navy blue and the buttons look fantastic.

This company has massively gone downhill. I've been buying from them for a really long time, but customer service is a joke. I refuse to buy from them now because of customer service last year with sending a case with button. My father still likes them, ordered very early Monday and paid for fast shipping... still hasn't shipped. Emailed them early yesterday asking for an update and nothing back still. I like their cases but they are a disaster every year at iPhone launch. My father is going to cancel and keep his Amazon case at this point.

I've started with an Apple silicone case but am actually considering a Sheath specifically because it'd be a little harder to press the Camera Control button. I don't accidentally activate my phone's camera with it because of the activate on double-click setting. But it might still be nice to not be accidentally clicking the Camera Control button as often by using a case with a well-done cutout.

I've been using a Speck Presidio 2 Grip since launch day, which has a cutout very similar to the Sheath. The Camera Control is still easy to use, but I never accidentally push it (and I have double click activation set also). I suspect the Sheath will be the same.

well, after a long wait that was then abruptly shortened (delivery estimate from Tuesday jumped to today (Saturday)), I finally got my Sheath.

background: I have used a Sheath on my XS, 11 Pro, and 13 Pro, and I daresay it's the best case I have ever used with a balance in protection, slimness, and texture for sure handedness. I probably drop my phone 1-2 times a year (accidentally) and it has always protected my phone in combination with a glass screen protector. (never had the latter crack or shatter or need to replace).

I got my phone 6 days ago and tried out a Smartish Gripmunk which I liked but found bulky as I have traditionally, and landed with an Apple Silicon. the latter has not been the lint magnet I have expected it to be, nor has had much an issue with oils either. it has been a bit sticky coming out of my pants pocket, but reasonably effective.

anyway, putting on the Sheath just now has been like coming back after a long trip and coming home. familiar: great attention to detail, nice texture for good grip, and I am confident it will protect my phone. the new volume buttons are a nice addition although I found that Caudabe perfected the "non button" solution for the 13 pro.

as for the camera control, that's where things go sideways. I know they didn't have the right info/guess. for "sliding controls" the cutout works fine. but for using the control/button for a shutter release, it's just plain poor, at least for this guy's finger. it's hard to find a great position to depress it, and it requires a very firm press to activate it. I don't see myself using it at all as a shutter release unless I Caudabe redesigns the case at some point with a sapphire/capacitive button.

for comparison: I find the silicon case mimics the naked phone's camera control much better and I may even go as far as saying the shutter release with the silicon case may be better than the naked phone requiring a slightly lighter press.

in the bigger picture, I haven't been sold on the camera control as being useful beyond activating the camera more quickly than a screens wipe. I may use it to change lenses (1,2,5x) but sadly the shutter release function isn't very well thought out in my opinion. it requires too firm a touch even as a naked phone, or one with the silicon case. I would say it's marginally useable in these two cases, and unusable with the Caudabe.

I'm torn: I have actually enjoyed the Silicon case much more than I thought I would the past few days. I'll use the Sheath for the next several to see if I can tolerate the loss of the marginally effective shutter release (with the silicon case). the Sheath checks all the other boxes and I may just have to accept the fact that the Sheath doesn't have a capacitive button and suck up the $43 if they decide to release a new version later this year.

PS for those of you are who are satisfied and keeping your Sheath's do you have any tricks/suggestions on how to sue the shutter release? I wouldnt' think my fingers are fatter than the typical person, but maybe I'm wrong...

Honestly, I‘m not using it at all… Yes, initially for some testing, but once the „newness“ factor wore off, I just stuck to the screen controls and sometimes volume button for shutter.

Maybe there will be a use for it once Visual Intelligence is there (who knows when isn’t will arrive here in the EU)

But other than that, it‘s just a gimmick for me…

I think it’s a matter of trying different angles with the camera control cutout but realistically an actual cutout(chunk of case gone) on that portion of the case or an actual button like apples cases would work best. To be fair I used the camera control a few times after getting the phone and haven’t touched it since. The on screen controls work way better for me. If I could get a sheath with that camera control button covered up I would buy it immediately.

you are right. it might be useful for VI, although I'm not convinced Apple AI overall is going to change my phone use dramatically.

one wishful thinking hope I have is they may modify the software and allow a softer touch shutter release that doesn't rely on a "physical button" like it currently does. ie, using some haptic feedback that requires a "harder push" than the one required to activate the menu, but softer than the physical "click" currently required.

if I stick with the Sheath, the CC will be essentially a camera action button for me, and maybe a lens control.

you and I are on the same page. as I noted above, maybe they will modify how this button/control behaves via software. right now, it's not very useful. as you suggest, I'm much more effective and efficient using the on screen camera controls.

Aside: many versions of iOS ago, I used to have a perfected way of shake-free shutter release: one could hold down the shutter button on the screen (it wouldn't take a burst of shots) and release their finger from the screen to trigger the shutter.

I've had Sheaths for my last couple of phones and kind of tired of them. I wish they would at least bring more colorful colors in for the Sheath. I'm all about these cases for my 16PM:

This year’s experience buying a Caudabe case has been horrible.

Preordered on 9/13. Shipment lost. Finally received the replacement order today and it wasn’t what I ordered. I ordered a blue and gray sheath. They sent me a black sheath and a gray synthesis. They got to do better.

Probably take three days to reply to you now

Please no… Not a third pressure level to get adjusted to… 2 are plenty! 😂
