You will not need any more space when iCloud comes you!!! Whhhhhhhhhhhhheeeyyyy!

Apple ain't daft though, the iCloud service will cost you extra and you are also limited by your Internet connection. Local storage will remain key for a large number of users for a while yet.

also is it true some apps are like nearly 4GB?
Technically not quite that big. I believe Apple limits app downloads to around 2GB (install size can be larger). However in practice large apps can consume almost 6GB during updates. Also some apps can create large data files post install that eat into the user space.
In general these large apps are either games or navigation apps with local map stores.

Agreed. Streaming services have been available for a while now. Apple joining the crowd doesn't really change anything for users who prefer not to use wireless bandwidth (or are unable to).

No regrets. I stream most content and a lot of my photo/video media is also stored on MobileMe.

Want more then 16 GIG

Yes I wanted more but I could not justify spending the money for larger memory amount on top of the 3G.

I have pondered the thought of selling mine once either iPhone 4S or 5 comes out, vice versa ?

Lots of great replies thanks guys....

I also have a iPhone 4 32GB and was thinking to use it for music like most do - but isn't it nice having a good chunk of music on the iPad to listen while say playing some games?

I have 104 apps, 90 photos, amd ten video podcasts on my iPad. I still have 9.4 gb available. I haven't been choosy for small apps, either.

People buy the 64gb version thinking that they will have enough memory for a long time. What they forget is, they will most likely be the first in the line, for the next generation iPad.

I personally always go with the lowest memory model, (in this case 16gb), because i know, that i will most likely buy the next generation iPad as well. I believe i can afford this, mainly because i never buy the most expensive model.

In addition to that, Apple is soon launching their cloud service. If you plan on using iCloud then what is the point of maxing out your physical storage?

While my 16 GB iPhone 4 is always full, my 16 GB iPad has not gone above half since I've had it. My phone has about 10 gigs of music on it, and my iPad has almost none (just a few things on there to see how the iPod function worked).

I stream most of my TV shows and movies on Netflix and Hulu, so those are not stored on my iPad at any time. There are 3 or 4 shows that I get from iTunes weekly because we "cut the cord" awhile back, and those 3 or 4 shows are not available on my Roku box. Those are deleted once I'm done watching them unless my wife wants to see them too, in which case I just back them up to iTunes on the computer first and then delete them.

I don't mind having a 16GB at all. I find with Netflix and Hulu, MLB@BAT, and watchESPN I have more then enough content to stream to myself, plus my AirVideo from my Macbook and My iDisk storage. So thats fine for me. Plus I wanted 3G and the 16GB w/ 3G was well within the range of what I wanted to spend!

Not at all. I don't store any music or videos on there (I stream), and I only have around 3 pages of apps and still have plenty of space (~11GB).

It makes sense mostly I'll be home a good chunk of the time when using it and can stream, but excuse my noobness how do I stream? Do I need a MacBook for that?

I've got tons of videos and music on my PC which would be cool to stream, also is it possible when streaming music you can rate your iTunes library songs as well?

Ipad Storage

Hopefully after Icloud is introduce, you won't need additional space.

I currently have 8GB of space used on my 32, which effectively has 29.0 gb free.

I have no music of movies..that's all apps, 91 total (sounds like alot but it's 1 page with like 6 folders.

Most of the space is from like 10 apps.. quite a few apps now are approaching 1GB size.. and many 200-500MB.

I think as the iPad progresses and becomes more powerful app size will increase.

I only have 15 gb left on my 64 gb model. I have lots of PDFs, podcasts, Kindle reference books, and music stored on it. I could pair it down, but I like having everything with me.

But you'll need a good Internet connection for a majority of the time you're using your pad. Wouldn't you hate to want to use you iPad just to realize you don't have a connection? A major benefit of the pad is that bit frees you to enjoy content on the go.

Plus there are many options, including streaming from your desktop, or just listening to live stream apps like pandora or pocket tunes. I doubt iCloud will bring anything revolutionary other than making it easy to sync your music to the cloud.

Just get the 16gb cuz you can just stream everything, just don't spam your iPad with your entire library worth of music, just sync the playlists. That's the same with videos, just keep a movie or two on it. You should have more than enough storage for apps and everything else.

This thread led me to go with the 32 ov the 16. I bought it today and it is awesome. Typing on it now. Lots of room to store my trip to Europe in a few weeks!

I use Air Video -http://www.inmethod.com/air-video/index.html It runs on Windows or a Mac - allows you to stream most of your videos - it converts them on the fly. I stream audio with a plethora of apps like Pandora. Moslty just locked into Rinse FM- And of course, I keep a few gigs of playlists I want to hear - I must say, I don't find myself using this for audio that often, if it's just audio, my iphone is fine.

16GB is way more than enough for me.

I don't believe in downloading lots of apps and games. I stick to the ones I need.

When it comes to music, I love TuneIn radio. As I listen to electronic music, it's got like thousands of radio stations. Though I do have around 2gb of music. But again, I only load what I listen and once am done, I sync new collection.

I don't like watching movies or any video file on iPad besides youtube. I'm a movie freak and I love watching in my home theather (It's not a theater, but I have made it like one :))

Reading news/magazines and books sometimes, I use news apps. I got like loads of news apps. I use Zinio app for magazines (it's an outstanding app if nobody has heard about it) and Kindle for books.

Most important use of iPad is office. I need that everyday. There are lots of files where I have to keep updating everyday and to make things flawless of using the file anywhere, there is dropbox. So all in all, it's a good thing for me.

And then ofcourse there is web browsing and stuff. Overall I like the way iPad shapes my life. It makes things very smooth and easy as I don't have to shut down or anything like MAC OSX. I do have Macbook pro but honestly, I use like once in a week.

So after all this i still got like 8GB! and one more thing. I got iPad WIFI 16GB. Now I can surf 3G internet cause I got 3G network on my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and I use Wifi Tether. Two reasons why not 16GB WIFI+3G, 1] battery consumption and 2] buying 2 3G connections - one for iPad and the other for my cell phone.

I don't need space cause in today's world you can store it anywhere on the internet and now we got wireless flash drives. I need fast internet. I'm waiting for 4G in India :)

I'd say get the largest capacity you can comfortably afford. I went for the 64Gb one so I don't have to think about space, and don't have to shuffle things on and off the device. Apps, books, music and videos soon add up ...

Nope.I use AirPlay for TV shows, and occasionally sync some episodes. Also dont have many games, just a few good ones. No music, since i use my iPhone for that. No photo albums either, just a few pictures i download from time to time from the web.

iPhone on the other hand... i wish i had 32gb as i have a lot of music and take pictures and videos frequently.

I don't mind at all. I stream a lot of video content and I only have my playlists synced to my iPad. I have just about 9GB available. Also, I really wanted the 3G model so the 16GB fit my budget nicely.

Definitely happy with my purchase.

I don't regret getting 16gb at all I'm mostly going to use it for mail/surfing/tv/reading/music which isn't going to require much memory. However if I was into touch screen games than I definitely would regret getting 16gb.
