Just like we don't say "Meet me at the Starbucks cafe" or... "Starbucks Restaurant", I wonder if this is an attempt to remove "Store" from their image. Each store would just be "Apple", just like we say "Meet me at Starbucks", people would say "Meet me at Apple". They are positioning it as a destination. Not sure it's going to work, unless they truly do offer a hang-out type of environment.

I'm not convinced that Angela's heart is in this the same way as Tim and Phil. Can she really be excited about the products, or just the retail "experience"?

I think Apple really does need to step it up if they are going to position themselves like this. Product releases once or twice a year is not enough to keep the excitement alive.

(p.s. YouTube video only plays in the US? Lame.)

Yeah, okay. Every time I'm in an Apple Store it is insanely overcrowded and noisy. I just find myself wanting to leave as soon as possible. Can't see how anyone would enjoy going for any type of class or meeting.

This x 1,000. Back in the early 2000's they were great. The attention to detail was top-notch and the focus on the customer was priority. Now they are cramming as many people in as possible, and I have no desire to stop and look at anything - I just want out of that place.

I get how it happened - they gained a lot more customers - but all the Apple Stores I visited over a decade ago feel the same only they have about 100 more people crammed into them.

Does she not get why people meet at Starbucks and why that works?

The only people who are gonna say "meet me at apple" are the amway shills because they'll have free access to laptops.

And you didn't read a word of the article.

Apple providing free classes turned into a cesspool of negativity on MR forums in only ten posts....confirmed.
I'm not negative about it, but I am pretty indifferent towards it. The Apple Store near me (which isn't in a big city), is always insanely crowded and noisy. Even if I order a product online and have it waiting for me to come pick-up, it still takes about an hour to get out of there.

Offering classes sounds good, but it's almost like offering free massages by professional masseuses, except they're in the subway station in NYC at rush hour. It's a nice offer, but I wouldn't want it.

Really hesitant to say this, but the force is strong: Angela needs to watch this interview and be objective re: her appearance. My reaction is that she looks very "strained". You want to look natural. Having said that, there are alt instances where guys like Eddie and Phil are over-doing the "casual" look. They are all so strained. Then there is Tim's weird (imho) pacing when he presents. My guess is that they all (A, E, P, T) have all hired experts who get paid a lot of money to help them create an appearance halo like Steve. Come on folks, it was natural for him. If you are hiring folks to get the same vibe... well just think about that for a moment.

What is sad is that she is suppose to be the elite of the Corporate World. Timmy pays her 10 Million a year, for her to speak jibberish and nonsense.

I miss Steve! It's like the village idiots are now running Apple

This is face palm... bad.. Why would I want to meet at apple? Are they selling beer? food? coffee? no... Just crowed loud and sterile decor... I'll pass

Sorry, but Apple is getting further-and-further out of touch.. I guess you really can't understand you market when you're multi-millionaires.

You went straight from paranoid conjecture to "This is happening, folks" without missing a beat.
If any of what you just spilled out was in any way relevant, or even interesting, you still wouldn't have had a point.

I'm thinking you should have continued hesitating.

Ridiculous, as most on here have pointed out. AppleStores have some of the worst retail experiences out of any store in the malls that I visit. I can't believe that Angela receives millions of dollars to come up with such stupidity when they don't even have the basics down such as figuring out how to get the attention of an employee.

Whenever I've been to an Apple Store, it's crowded. I've been in a Microsoft store. They do have areas for teaching classes, and it's kind of quiet. Mainly because I could count how many customers there were in the store with fingers (plural) left over.

Microsoft Store is great as a free arcade basically except the VR is always busy and I never get a chance to play :(

Enough.

Most people here, it seems, can swallow the "It's the greatest Mac we've ever built" hype, because new computers rock (or they used to) but trying to convince the 'kids' that being cool is all about meeting under the umbrella of Apple's brand is way off target.

"Come and hang with your homies, learn about the future, and hey, just maybe you'll want to buy one of these....you know, while you're here."

more like Bozo explosion... head nodding, self importance and facial expressions more important than what she say... for one I don't see anything new they want to do that they weren't doing already today - and neither can she explain it in one simple sentence, hence there's no overarching strategy to this "new" concept (even though I'd call it madness). Even more so, she still doesn't have a good and clear answer why she was hired - leadership? GTFO...

I should probably ask her where can I sign up for a photography class where they teach how to use pro photo apps for Mac like Aperture :p

It's about time, in Seattle we had a thriving dBug organization that could have used a meeting place. The ability of third-parties to attend a "guest coders and presenters" night might have saved a lot of careers, and about WebObects...
