If you haven't seen this already then treat yourself to the now famous meme of Hitler in his bunker losing it over losing the war. Someone's made a "Intel CEO Hitler Reacts to Apple Silicon M1" version which is sublime...
Quote from video "Our CPU's need a bloody nuclear power plant to run, Apple silicon runs on solar panels and unicorn farts". ?

Aside from the internals, the two biggest changes I'd like to see for my next iMac are:
  1. Height adjustability: It's crazy to expect the user to adjust their position to get the right alignment.
  2. Thinner bezels/larger active display.
Honestly, the chin in the current iMac doesn't bother me a bit — I like the Apple logo.
Yeah, it's crazy that even with the latest redesign, Apple has chosen to ignore the height adjustability aspect of this computer.

There are cheaper 3rd party monitors that allow for height adjustability and Apple has chosen to ignore it! It doesn't take much to include pan, tilt, and swivel onto displays...

I guess they wanted to do the bare minimum with the M1 iMacs to get it out the door fast. Maybe when a "full" redesign happens on the iMac, where the designers look at every aspect of the iMac design closely, they will think about the omission of the height adjustability aspect and maybe choose to include it.

Yes, I would expect a Mini Pro with M1 Pro to start between $1500 and $1700. Less than the MBP 14” but not so much cheaper that the MBP looks like a bad deal.

How's so? The MBP is a laptop... people who need a laptop aren't going to consider a Mac mini regardless how powerful it is.

Ideas here are generally good, but your guesses at prices make it look like you don't know Apple. Profit margin comes first.

I think "starting at..." targets MIGHT fit but not those specs. Starting at is the weakling (under-specced) model to get them a low price to show in all of the "big reveal" press coverage. Then you BTO it to get the specs you actually want and it can be 1.5X-3X more than that.

My guess is that a Mac Mini PRO/MAX config is going to be priced oddly high so as to not discourage the old "so why wouldn't I just pay the "little more" and get the iMac PRO/MAX equivalent and also get the screen?"

My guess is that bigger iMac won't wait until a June reveal. I bet they have it all pinned down now but did not roll it out due to chip constraints. I very much would bet on a Spring event for updated MB Air and bigger iMac. If anything at WWDC, I bet they show prototype Mac Pro M2 that doesn't actually launch until the Fall. I bet that's also where they roll out the DUO/QUAD concept with maybe some kind of "Grand Central Extreme" spin to get developers thinking about coding for that kind of platform too.

But, that shared, I'll hope right with you. Bargain Mac Mini MAX is immediate buy.

Current Mac mini 8/8/8/256 is $699. Current 24" iMac 8/8/8/256 is $1499. That's an $800 difference. If Apple was so concerned with profit margin, why isn't the mini much higher bringing it closer to the iMac? 2 Mac mini's cost less than one 24" iMac. The 13" MBP 8/8/8/256 is $1299 - a $600 difference. All the same specs/performance!!!

$999 (or $1099 to replace current Intel mini) would have 8/14/16 M1 Pro w/ 512SSD and go WAY up from there... $1999 for M1 Max 10/24/32 w/512SSD... $2800 for M1 Max 10/32/64 w/1TB SSD

All 1st gen Apple Silicon Macs will have an M1, including the iMac "pro" and Mac Pro. The iMac will top out with an M1 "Ultra" (M1 Max x2), and the Mac Pro will top out with an M1 "Extreme" (M1 Max x4).

Apple designed 2 SoCs... The M1 and the M1X (Max). The M1 Pro is a "chopped" version of the Max. The "Ultra" will have 2 M1 Max's on package, and the "Extreme" will have 4. This is how Apple plans to maximize costs of development, since the volume won't be there as it is with A-series SoC's.

And expect the low end M1 Pro to show up as a high end option for the 24" iMac.

I wonder if Apple will bring Chips like M1, M1 Pro or Pro Max to the iPhone series? Imagine how big of a transition it would be.
The M1 series is based on a stretched version of the A14 Bionic which in turn is a stretched version of the A14 SoC deployed in the iPhone 12. In theory it could be used so long as you made the iPhone case a lot bigger, allowed for cooling, and put in a bigger battery to handle to power draw, and more. If you take a look at the physical sizes of the A14 (12 billion transistors) vs M1 Max (57 billion) you will understand why this isn't a direction Apple will be taking.

When they offer it with other M1 variants. Eventually the M1 Pro and Max will make its way to the Mac mini. Starting at $999
That's fine; I kind of expect to spend up to around $1500 for such a Mac Mini, as I'd want to get one with a 1 TB SSD and 32 GB of unified memory. It'd be around the price I paid for my M1 MacBook Air (8-core graphics 512 GB SSD model with the memory configured to 16 GB.)

People are not underestimating them. Even PC centric channels are covering them. If you talk about Intel maybe right, but not really for other people.
Oh don’t get me wrong — I don’t think Apple Silicon has gone unnoticed or hasn’t been lauded appropriately.

I’m saying that even that only scratches the surface of its potential. I honestly think we’ll soon see use cases that will change the way we think about computing.

That was in response to someone suggesting that a mini pro could start at $999. I think that is low. $1500 to $1700 is probably a more likely starting point.

Perhaps no more. In general, same chip = same power. Rumors of Mac Mini Max could mean all of the power of MBpro Max in a Mac that costs less than a "maxed" out MBpro Max.

Given my "working Mac" need for real Windows too in a post-bootcamp world, I'm starting to imagine a crazy idea of Mac Mini MAX + Windows NUC (or stick-based Windows computer) + Screen + Keyboard all separately packed in a travel bag... a kind of (not)laptop made of individual pieces. Yes, seems very crazy but if a "working Mac" professional would otherwise need to pack TWO laptops to cover all working bases, does the weight and/or potential thickness of the bag actually change that much (one less screen, one less keyboard, etc)

Might even be able to switch into a mode of using HDMI out to leverage hotel TVs and such for the "away" screen. It's going to be interesting.
There’s the headless LunaDisplay if you happen to carry an iPad with you with all that too maybe?

I sold my 2015 15" MBP and I actually made a $50 profit from when I bought it used back in 2015. $50 profit might not sound like much but that was the first time I bought something, used it for five years and actually made a slight profit. I sold it to buy my M1 MBA and I have been super happy since then. I first bought a MBA back in 2012 and it was fine for what little I do which is mainly online bill pay, YouTube and web browsing. But I have to say my M1 MBA has some serious balls when compared to my first MBA. I have it hooked up to a 27" 4K monitor and it does everything I need it to do without flinching.

Now my dilemma will be when the new, redesigned MBA comes out next year. I know I'm gonna want it but I also know I won't need it. Sometimes my wants and needs tend to cloud my better judgement a lot. lol
The mind blowing part for me is not the minor $50 dollars profit, it’s that it cost you -$50 dollars to have and use a quality laptop computer for five years!

Great, I can’t wait to see macOS dethrone Microsoft Windows and completely drive Linux off of sever world, unifying the whole world under one Apple umbrella. Sounds amazing right?

Yeah, I bought it from a former co-worker of mine who bought it new. He's very OCD about his equipment just like I am so I knew the laptop was in perfect condition. He sold it to me dirt cheap which is why I was able to make $50 profit five years later. The laptop still looked brand new.

As promised by Tim Cook, yes, I think in the year of 2022, full transition will be completed.
I'm guessing that some kind of announcement of the new Mac Pro at WWDC 22, with a release in Nov/Dec 22. I would expect 20 and 40 core multi-die CPU variants. I'm still not sure if they will do for GPUs - will it just be 32-core Max GPUs on multiple dies, or combined with some kind of accelerator card on PCIe5 or some exotic Apple-proprietary bus?

It’s been a great year with my M1 Mini!

I got it in my hands somewhere 20-25 november last year.

A call out to the OG M1 crowd!

Ura ! Nothing to see here, move along. Who is the jerk in the picture ?? Sounds like someone who got hired post jobs.
Are you asking about the first photo in the article?

That is John Ternus, Apple's Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. Definitely not a jerk.

Wife got the M1 Macbook Air. Son got the 13 inch M1 MacBook Pro for college. Very nice machines especially battery life.

My M1 Max 16 inch MacBook Pro with 64 GB RAM and 4TB SSD arrives sometime between Christmas and New Year, supply chain willing. It will replace my 2016 15 inch touch bar MacBook Pro...the one with the failing keyboard and never quite ready for prime time touch bar. It also didn't have the best battery life.

Can't wait.

"One year anniversary" is redundant. It is the 1st anniversary. "Year" is already built in - anno, year; verso, turning.

Sorry, this is one of my hardcore pet peeves, right up there with loosing instead of losing.
