Yes. Don't you just love it.Indeed. A lot of good signing up at their website has been!![]()
They have a higher sales tax. 12.5% vs 10% in Australia.
Tomtom is differentiating this app because it's the only iPhone app so far that runs IQroutes. It compares to a Tomtom ONE IQROUTES/140, which rarely sells for under $150.
IQroutes uses historical time-of-day and day-of-week specific road speeds form millions of Tomtom owners, and gives much better urban directions than any other brand because IQroutes can avoid predictable congestion.
The routing would be much better than the soon-to-be discontinued Tomtom 130 (which doesn't contain IQroutes), so price-comparing the iPhone app to a 130 wouldn't be apples-to-apples.
Tomtom said in their financial call that a US/Europe launch would be simultaneous. My assumption is that is true for the full global launch. They're probably waiting for each timezone's "Monday" so that they have their support call centers open, but my guess is that it should make it across the globe within 12-18 hours.

Hmm and I just bought CoPilot 12 hours ago lol
It seems like TTS is the only upper hand of this app? Hopefully the North American version will be released soon.
I am using AT&T. It does have TTS. However, I have to use a head-set to be able to understand it. I could route it thru my car-stereo but then I cannot listen to Sirius.Slight correction: it's the THIRD GPS app to boast TTS. AT&T Navigator/Telenav and Gokivo were the first two.
Love Navigon!
Con
- No 3D
- Ugly UI
Pro
- TTS

I expect to have the same problem with TomTom. I think that may be why TT is offering the car-kit.
It's expensive, that's all I can say
(oh wait I looked at NZ hehe)
Ahhh.. now I can't wait for CoPilot to have their own TTS too
I love CoPilot's UI over TomTom's based on the screenshots.
That's the whole point. Turn-by-turn GPS apps MUST provide their own map tiles. If you have a 3G or 3GS it will work anywhere, regardless of whether you have mobile connectivity available or not.
A$99.99 (which is what it probably will be) is WAAAYY cheaper than a stand-alone unit.
Maybe NZ has more roads? They certainly have more sheep![]()
CoPilot looks like a hell of a value. I may use some "Apple dollars" to try it out.Ahhh.. now I can't wait for CoPilot to have their own TTS too

Compared to other applications, yes; compared to other GPS systems, no.
I am hoping for another datapoint around 6pm, Holland, or 7pm, UK. Anyone staying up? I am old and I drink. I have to take a nap or I will not make it.So since it looks like they're launching it country by country (atleast I think, people shouldn't make that prediction with just 2 so far)
any clue what the September 27th event could be about?
I like the CoPilot UI too, but it takes up to 5 minutes to get a GPS fix when I launch the app, it can't keep up with the car, it sends me on weird routes, and it places my home about half a mile away from where it actually is.
It's good to have a nice UI, but it's pointless if the app doesn't actually work.
I know it does seem to work for some people. Perhaps I'm just unlucky and the maps just don't happen to be very good in my locality?
