How do you figure that???

What a rediculous statement when no evidence is provided.

BTW, I am going to be King of the world in 2005 and reign for a period of 21.85 years.

i see the points made for it being fake

but it's tony hawk

can't fake that part

and i think he has better things to do with his time than make a spoof ad....

The ad is kind of suspicious.
For the first time, shots are used that dont show the "switcher", and I noticed a somewhat unprofessional zoom during the "Final Cut Pro for all our skate videos" passage.
Never before a zoom was used in a switch ad. And the zoom looks unprofessional. Sorry, but it seems to be an "unofficial" Apple ad..!?

My 0.02 € 😀

P.S.:1. Can anyone confirm, if this is really Tony Hawk? 2. Why would he talk about FCP instead of iMovie? Its a consumer ad, right?

Go and check out Gautam Godse's switch ad. You should notice about 10 seconds through an 'unprofessional' zoom.

Exactly... if it was some no-name person - sure... someone could fake it... I didn't even know what tony hawk looked like. I searched around and found pix of him.... this does appear to be tony hawk.

QBert's ad was also less polished/professional... but...

1) It is QBert
2) It was posted on Eroll Morris's site.

Love this ad

First Off Tony Hawk is a God in the Skateboarding world, known and respected for not only his skills and his ability to do them at his age, not only for passing on the mantle to his oldest son, but because even today for over 15years on the pro circuit--worldwide--he can still raise the bar!!!!!

He was the first person to do a perfect 1080!
Although it took him about 12 tries or so, noone else even attempted it before him!

And yes he uses an Apple always has! Pick up a video on him and you'll see him actually editing on one.

He also owns several business' and is still with his sweetheart wife=only 1.

My point??

First off this is the perfect person to use in the "switch" ads! So many young adults, and adolescents can relate to him. A rebel whom with/without a cause ends up successful because he sticked to his dream. He didnt change himself to fit the status quo. Take a look at how he's dressed: He earns about 190'000 dollars a year collectively--net--thru his various business' not to mention endorsements; and he doesnt have to dress the part of a suite to accomplish this. Also, his marriage like the Mac just works it doesnt crash!!!! LOL. And unlike some of the first switch ads from apple he isnt seen from anyone as a segregated class: please dont take any of my examples offensively its not intended, poor, uneducated, old, young, etc.

I thinks ppl like this could only help Apple.a

Peace

I must protest! 😀 Look at my profile! 😱 😎 😛

P.S.: Good points arn and all the others. I believe now that it IS Tony, but I think the ad could have been "that little bit" cooler.

My opinion: It is a fake because of the things mentioned (zoom, the aim on the 'pro' market, the video in between and so on)...
Of course it's Tony Hawk, but why shouldn't he make that ad just for fun? I mean, we know he's a mac freak, just like all of us are... and remember that switch video contest? I think he just loves apple like we do and wants to support them a lil bit 😀

And do you really think he does have better things to do? 😀

you didn't check out gautam godse's ad yet eh? there's a pretty goofy zoom in that one. but it kinda works with the candidness of the ads.... also, yeah, i hear you that the fcp thing hasn't been mentioned before. then again, celebs haven't been used before. it would make sense to use celebs to tout the higher level stuff a bit... i mean, celebs that use it. not meg ryan for dvd sp... but you know what i mean

yeah, i could see him doing it. but not one that professional looking. i think it'd be a little more fun/goofy...

as for better things to do... have you seen his wife? ha. i haven't. just figured that's a possibility.

It definetly him. I remember on an episode of MTV cribs where they visited him and he had TONS of killer Mac hardware.

I was surprised by the last statement " if you know how to use a computer, you can use a mac." If I never used a mac before and heard this, I'd think: damn, this machine must be AT LEAST as complicated to use as the PC I am having trouble with.

Maybe he meant: ...you can do video editing on a mac.
Oh well...

He doesn't say, "You know how to use a computer you can use a Mac." He says, "You don't know how to use a computer you can use a Mac." It's just really ran together like, "youdon't." Listen again you will see what I mean.

Also If anyone out there hasn't seen it you need to do a search of MacAddict they did a series of star users that included Tony Hawk who got something like 8 pages in the magazine. He is really a Superstar he's risen to the point where he doesn't even have to ride at the XGames to have people know he is the best. I am not a skateboarding fan but I am a fan of talen and Tony and Mike Burnquist are the current greats. They are also very close friends.

Something else I wanted to mention is these Ads haven't been released by Apple yet and one thing that pops to mind when you I think of that is that these are not the final cuts. In other words what we saw wasn't ready for prime time yet. Also some of the ads are for pros. How many consumers are IT Admins let alone know what they do or what they are. I can't find the add from the guy in IT at the moment it looks like they took it off the site.

Also about the Mpeg vs. Quicktime format. How do you know that whoever took this didn't save it in whatever format. I reiterate this is an unfinished product.

How about this: poor sound quality, amateurish camera work, and the intercutting of skateboard footage.

It's a hoax. You need more evidence?

This isn't evidence... it's your opinion

1) poor sound quality -> poor encoding
2) camera work - doesn't look that far off
3) skateboard footage - so? Did Apple ever say "we will never have skateboard footage in a switch ad?" If not, this is not any more proof than me saying that Godse's ad was fake because he had a photo-book with him.

Was QBert's video fake too? His was also of lesser quality, overall... plus had a non-traditional flow. No background music, he had a prop with him, there was some video which was in "fast motion".

still there. the webpage made chimera quit every time i tried, so maybe that's your problem... try ie if you can. or at least something else

i have mixed feelings about using tony hawk... overall i think it's a good move. however, i think it's almost too obvious a move. any mac fan that knows anything about tony hawk knows he's a big mac guy who pushed for his game to be ported to mac... he's great cause he's not super super popular but enough people know him. not to mention the fact that the little skater kids that know him could easily be swayed to macs on his word alone....

the one question i have is.... would apple be better off showing a computer or two in these ads? i mean, there are certainly those people who don't nkow what an "apple computer" or "mac" is... so something like "i edit the movies using final cut pro on my mac".... i mean, there are plenty who would have no physical idea of what the "mac" is... at least i think so

that said, not sure they should toss any hardware shots in

i like the idea of using not huge celebs, but then it kinda defeats the purpose... they should get trent reznor too... as much as i'm not a fan of his music. he's always at the front of apple tech... mainly thinking of his use of dvd studio pro pretty early on

good commercial, looking forward to seeing the rest..... c'mon bill cosby

One of my better friends is best friends with Tony. They are both Mac advocates. But Tont hawk has WIDE name recognition right now because of all the advertising of games, products based on his likeness and endorsements. It is hard to go to a Wal-Mart or other mass merchandiser without seeing him on a shelf end cap or two.

So he has recognition at some level among all age groups. It is a smart demographic choice.

Not many people really know he is an avid Mac promoter in real life.

One of the main target markets for Macs is now the pictures of kids crowd. It has always been a driver of the photo industry and now that convenience photography is going the digital camera and online download of your film camera results, a Mac with iPhoto is a natural.

So many parents get DV cameras mainly because of the desire to take kid movies.

Rocketman

Hi Tony and Greg. Andrew says hi.

That's right, an opinion -- based the evidence. To argue that the ad is genuine is also just an opinion, and appears to be based on nothing more than wishful thinking.

Incidentally, I think it would be great for Apple do switch ads with celebrities. But they should use people more than one out of a hundred people recognize.

Thanks Skandranon

Thanks for posting those mp3's Skandranon. I'm downloading a couple off of you.

I'd share out my music, however I don't feel like screwing with our office firewall.

And guys... as for the ad. I highly doubt it's fake. Tony Hawk is a busy man and he has better things to do then make fake Apple ads. Those lame fake ads are really only created by young geeks who have a poor sence of humor and too much time on their hands.

I can't believe I'm even arguing about this.

Those of you who didn't grow up skateboarding don't realize how huge skate videos are. Stop by any skateboard shop and take alook at the tons of videos on the shelves. Most of which are shot on DV cameras and edited with Final Cut Pro. Skateboarders are extremely media saavy, and many of them are making their own versions of the bigger videos so using Tony Hawk to promote FCP is a very wise choice.
