I've never heard of Deschutes here in Virginia. Rogue is plentiful (and delicious) if you know where to look.

Haha, I guess I wasn't clear, You buy the bottle, then you can bring it there and they're fill it and you take it home, although maybe you can drink it there, that would be pretty awesome!

It's one of those brewery/restaurant type thing called sweetwater tavern, I'm not sure how widespread they are.

Where? VT?

Anything by Dogfish Head x5

Especially the 90 min IPA....

Hands down my favorite brewery. The 90 minute IPA is a wonderful beverage. It's been too long since I had one, I think I may make a stop on the way home from work.

I think select Dogfish brews are starting to become available further and further out.

Also, an awesome brewery to tour. I'm planning on making a trip up there again soon.

I'll have to try that the next time I'm up there. I've only been to the place once (opened up well after I finished up at MTU and have only been up once for a buddy's wedding since the place opened)

I just finished up my masters at MTU in May. Every friday night was Keweenaw Brewing Company night....how can you not like microbrew pints for $2.50? I like everything they sell except the pale ale (not too big on bitter beers) and the brown (too sweet IMO). The Porter can be good or bad, depedning on the batch. Next time you're their make sure to try the Kraken malt liquor - it's actually pretty good. Their black ale is also very popular.

Sounds good.

What kind of sushi did you have? Curious for the beer/sushi mix taste.

Also, how much did you pay for the beer?

I'll warn you that I'm a novice at food/beverage pairing, and a bigger novice at sushi!

I was with four people and we shared pretty much everything. I ordered beef negimaki and shrimp dumpling (like pot stickers?) appetizers, which were excellent. For the main course I had a dragon roll with shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber and fish roe. I think...Everyone else had something different...

The 22oz. Sapporo came in the usual fancy tallboy can and cost something like 8 bucks.

Hope my confusing explanation helps. :)

Yes, thanks. Now that I think about it that sounds like the way the (Japanese) waitress pronounced it.

Just to mention the Dogfish Head once more. The founder of the brewery just put out a book this spring called He said Beer, She said Wine. He co-wrote it with a wine consultant or something and they go through different catagories of food and they duke it out whether which goes better with which in an amusing format. For each type of food (pizza, seafood, etc) there are i think 5 beers and 5 wines featured. To clarify they are specific beers not just the type i.e. "brown ale."

It's definitely worth checking out. Also if you order it from the Dogfish Head website you can get it signed by the author!

That's the second mention of the Arrogant Bastard Ale. I'm definitely going to have to try that this weekend.

I got Iron City once. Is that the one that comes in an aluminum bottle?

I have to take a moment to say that I'm somewhat tired of the cartoonish names microbreweries tend to apply to their beer these days - when just a couple breweries did it it was quirky or cute, but now it's standard operating procedure.

Everybody has an "old fat dog head" ale or some such. It's become trite. I like names that reflect the area the brewery comes from or its history rather than some goofy moniker applied for marketing purposes. Two cents.

I don't know how far out it gets, but I have to say that Jolly Pumpkin makes some great beverages too. Check them out if you see em around...

I'm going to have to start writing some of these down. I've noticed that some people are posting from the Northwest. My Uncle said that there are tons of little breweries up there and I was thinking of taking a trip there in about a year or so and just tasting all sorts of tasty brews.

Those of you from the area, your thoughts?

I second that...
