It's so great to see how the EU's rulings for iOS have led..finally...to so many great options to install danger-ware on iPhones and iPads now.

Lucky! Torrenting is a lifestyle. I started watching Columbo reruns on YouTube TV but A/V quality sucked so HELLO BluRay rips.

I admit, If Columbo investigated piracy I'd probably quit. - "...just one more question...probably not important...I noticed your files were ripped from a DVD with a European region code. But this is the United States, sir. If you ripped this from a DVD in your personal collection, as you said in your official statement, then why doesn't the metadata show a North American region code?"

"You're under arrest, sonny-jim! By golly, I thought you'd slip through that one, but then you just gotta go and incriminate yourself there, didn't you. Take him away."

No, but this is very different because an iPhone and iOS aren't just another computer and an operating system.

.. They are very specifically the computer and operating system that generates the most revenue for Apple and, naturally, have to be locked, blocked and proprietary this and that and everything to force every third party and consumer to always pay Apple a little something, or a lot, no matter what we do on iPhone.

Only the EU could ever manage to loosen Apple's grip on iPhone a little bit.
I don't think you thought out your response very well. lol
As you said, Apple makes no money off Mac Apps and neither does anyone else really so it's open.
Apple's business model is based around the iPhone and the App store apps that run on it. It's their legitimate business model that they are banking on.

Now put your EU comment into the conversation in the proper context. Only EU could ever manage to take money away from a legitimate business running a world wide business model of 30% sales commission.
No wonder European entrepreneurs leave their home countries to open shop in the USA. 🤦‍♂️

Will Apple’s loosening restrictions, will we see Nvidia’s GeForce NOW gaming service on iOS devices anytime soon?

It’s great on Mac but would be even better on iOS and (especially!) AppleTV!

They pay for their annual membership like everybody else. If I sell something at Best Buy I don’t pay Walmart any commission; would you call me greedy for sidestepping Walmart’s’ cut of the sales?!
Unless you have signed an agreement with Walmart to give it a cut of sales of your property, regardless of channel through which the property is sold, Walmart has no right to a cut of sales.

Before you can use Apple's technology, you must sign a license which gives you limited rights to use and distribute their property. Your license is binding whether you sell their property through the Apple App Store or another App Store.

I'm waiting for someone to build a call blocking app that will block unknown and blocked Caller ID calls without silencing all unknown callers.

Why Apple won't do that or let somebody else do that, I have no idea.
In Asia, we use Whoscall app to block all spam and telemkting calls. Unknown but unidentified (by the app) callers can still reach you if you choose.

Not sure what its US/EU equivalents are.

I use torrenting apps on my Mac for legitimate purposes. Lots of live bands I listen to that allow their audiences to record and share shows, and this is how the audio is distributed.
I also use torrents for legitimate purposes, mostly getting new Lubuntu ISO and other free software files.

I know that cellular carriers in particular don’t like torrents because of the extra strain it places on their routers, as well as the increased traffic.

Good. If EU developers are so greedy that they don’t want to pay their fair share of sales commission to Apple, they deserve to be pirated.

I knew pirating would be coming once Apple is no longer in control as Apple did their best to not allow this.
Wow, this is the same logic the mafia in southern Italy uses when they tell a small business owner, "You are so greedy and you didn't pay your protection money. You deserve to get beaten up and your business burned down."

Torrenting.

Man that brings back some memories.

i thought they shut down most of the torrent sites, but to each their own.

Good luck EU in tracking down all those copyright violations. 😂

Not at all. I'm just doubting that Torrents are bigger today than they were in the past. Got data to back up that claim?
No, at least not yet, but apparently neither do you. Of course with the financial difficulties many are facing and the ease of using these applications, it’s probably a poor bet to say torrents are no longer a thing.

Content creators think they will get a better deal by potentially reducing the 15% (vast majority) or 30% Apple commission. With an open system software and content piracy will be a thing so instead of 70% to 85% gross profit you get zero for a large percentage of your market. The closed system, with virtually zero piracy, is one reason why iOS is so much more profitable for developers than Android. macOS is not under App Store control and software piracy is extremely common. It's rare for me to see a MacBook without pirated content as there are no shortage of software piracy sites. Epic doesn't care about throwing developers under the bus because they make their fortune on selling useless digital goods which are less affected by software piracy.

You're obviously not getting how this all works.

The amount of pearl-clutching in this thread is staggering. People acting like the ability to download a file is an end-of-days scenario. I get that some of you guys are petrified of the internet and the evils of being in control of your own devices, but take a deep breath, it's all going to be okay.
