Why doesn't Apple offer the option to disable the lock screen entirely? If I ever return to an iPhone I hate the idea of either having to slide to unlock to get the homescreen or needing to rest my thumb on the home button.
It's to prevent accidental input while the phone is in your pocket.Huh? You can disable the passcode or Touch ID altogether.
Never mind I see what you mean. Always had a pass on mine, didn't realize the lock screen is always there!
Yep. It is really a shame Apple didn't use a TouchId on the iPad Air
They will. When our iPad airs and retina iPad minis become obsolete in two-three months
I can't even be mad, because I knew that would happen lol
[doublepost=1493801325][/doublepost]I experience the same issue with touch ID, working only about half the time. Perhaps the hardware is just as relevant to the issue as the software, I had the problem with iPhone 6S and now with iPhone 7. I did discover a "fix" that works pretty well, try fingerprinting the same finger multiple times, i.e. Record the right thumb for fingers 1,2,3, and the left thumb 4,5,6. This has been working well for me.I'd say it works about half of the time.
Set it up for both of my thumbs and every time I press the home button it seems to unlock my phone about half the time. It's literally 50/50 'try again' and successful unlocking.
I've tried re-doing the setup for it about 10 times now, doing exactly what it says on the screen and I just can't make it work properly.
My hands are not greasy, my 5s is perfectly clean and still it doesn't really 'just work' the way you'd expect it to. You seem to have to do it at the right angle every time if you want it to actually work properly, align your finger 20* to the left or right and it'll just say 'try again'.
Very old thread. I also found the touch-ID did not work well at first but today it is seamless 99% of the time. I even forget that it is working as it works so fast.
