go to this website.

use your finger to press lightly on the screen, enough for your hand to feel that you have touched the screen, each square in turn, each square you touch once then the next square, do not touch the same square twice, in turn until you finish 1 screen turn. you will notice that there are quite a few touches missed. take another phone and do the same, you will notice that the touch performance of the iPhone 16 pro max screen is really bad.
The picture below is when I tested it on my 16 pro max.
Can you try and see the results?
Got a perfect score. Guess that confirms not all are defective contrary to what some people claim?

I do notice however some missed touches on daily use from my palm touching the screen registering unintended inputs. But that’s because I dont use a case and the bezels being so slim now. Though I can see how it can throw some people off into thinking something is wrong. If you hold it a certain way, all of them gonna have “missed touches” except they are not really missed you are simply doing conflicting inputs.

So I’m unlucky because after 3 device, the touch issue is always.
Touch test is K, sometimes a light taps don’t go, after it seems that screen zone of touch sleeping…
Another happens that if I press with power nothing and it go after 3/4 time..
I don’t know why.
All 16 Max models have this problem. Two of my friends did not notice this issue at all, and when I asked them, they said that there is no problem, but when I tried it myself, I noticed the touch problem. I have tried 6 16 Max models so far, and they all had this problem. I am almost sure that all of them have this problem, but the majority do not understand

You are fully right!
Every 16 PM have this problem only some people doesn’t notice it …

Wrong.

Did you try this test?

Can you clear the screen with single taps on every square? If not, then you have a problem. If you can, then you're not missing touches.

On my phone, I can clear the screen on that test with and without a screen protector.

We're really beating a dead horse at this point. It's pretty definitive based on all the posts in this thread that some people have an issue and some do not. Saying everyone has an issue is ridiculous in light of the evidence that says otherwise

EDIT: And like SmOgER mentioned above, due to the smaller bezels on the new phones, if you hold your phone with your other fingers or palms overlapping the screen in different spots, it is possible for that to interfere with taps elsewhere because the multitouch screen will register multiple touches at once. But you can easily figure out if that's your particular issue by just putting the phone on a table and tapping the screen without holding it in your hand...

Are you absolutely sure you are not unintentionally also touching the screen with your palm? The fact that it seems to be you would indicate to me that you are holding the device differently resulting in multiple inputs when you don’t mean to. Surely others would have noticed that it’s hard to type or the input freezes etc…

I have confirmed this issue across three different 16 pro max’s. I truly think people aren’t able to notice it. Maybe they have larger hands and are unable to tap lightly enough to make the issue noticeable? I’m not sure. Perhaps some screen protectors make it worse than others? I have the Flolab on and I think it might be the worst offender with touch issues. But that doesn’t explain how the Dynamic Island area is SO SENSITIVE. I basically can’t reproduce the touch issue on the lower part of the island. Everywhere else I am able to touch gently and my phone does NOTHING

When 18.4 drops I will be checking if we get a high sensitivity option like that one poster claims. I hope it’s true. Otherwise I guess I’ll have to accept my 5 year old androids have a better touchscreen.

Hey Guys! 😎

Today I removed my screen protector from the 16PM and tested the touch sensitivity. light tapping works 100% everytime. Touch sensitivity is the same like every previous iPhone. Like I said it is a software problem with only 16PM models and they should fix it.
With a hardware defect the touch sensitivity will be also low without screen protector. But that is not the case.
And yes Dynamic Island have 100% sensitivity with and without screen protector. That makes it even more strange …

Now I have applied this screen protectors. Touch sensitivity is not 100% but it is okay and I can live with it.
Had to reapplied them two times to be 100% centered horizontally and vertically.
I‘m an expert in screen protector application 100% dust & bubble free 🤣

They are good. No black frame and they are more near edge to edge than the Belkin ones for example. So it is 100% case friendly.
No sharp edges and 9€ for 3x pieces.

Lets hope they fix it with iOS 18.4 🙏

There is no tempered screen protector with 100% screen sensitivity out there for the 16PM …

I have tested many and I found only 2 with a semi good touch sensitivity. The rest had bad touch sensitivity.

This are my 2 favorites at the moment:

100% edge to edge and black frame without cutting screen image. No rainbow effect. But fingerprints extremely and glass not so smooth …

Not edge to edge but enough. Minimal rainbow effect when tilting extrem. Minimal fingerprints and smoother glass.

The touch screen issue seems to have gotten worse since iOS 18.3 on my 16 Pro.

I constantly have to tap twice for touch to register. iStore diagnostics comes up with no faults.

I'm not using a screen protector.

I'm guessing that Apple turned down screen sensitivity to save battery or sections of the screen goes into sleep mode to save battery.

From yesterday the same.

Hopefully if more users call into Apple support they will do something about it.

With 18.3.1
I'll tap the app icon. It recognises the tap ( fades in and out briefly) however the app does not open. Across just about any app.

There is some kind of OS response delay.

I also experienced missed touches here and there, or situations where I had to tap harder or multiple times for my touch to register. After trying four different screen protectors (the last one being the ESR Armorite, which worked about 95% well), I had a hydrogel film installed at my local shop. They also used UV light during installation to make it more durable. After four days of use, I can say it works 100% it registers even the lightest touches, and I havent had any missed touches at all.

In my opinion, testing six phones is enough to make sure that it is a common problem

After reading many pages of this thread it seems like mostly Pro Max affected by this issue. So is that true that regular Pro model has no problems?
