I removed my screen protector and am still experiencing the same issue with touches needed along the edge (p, delete, closing tab or story, etc). My feedback is still open from October last year. 16PM August build

My phone actually does this as well along the outer edges, and interestingly if I clean the screen very well and remove all traces of oil and fingerprints, then it works fine….until the screen gets dirty again. 🥵

This is the second-to-last update I’m making. I just spoke with the engineers in Cupertino, California. They told me that all iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pro models have a minor touch issue that is noticeable for some users but not for others. It is a 100% software-related problem, which will be gradually fixed with each update. The issue is due to the new screen with smaller bezels and new technology. That's what the engineers literally told me.
Regardless, they will replace my device with a new one, which I will pick up tomorrow. Once I have it, I will post my final update because I am mentally exhausted from all of this.
(My case: It works 99.9% fine without a screen protector; with a protector, the keyboard malfunctions, which really bothers me. For now, I’m using it without a protector and, fortunately, without any scratches.)

Just curious. If it’s 100% software related, then what’s the point of replacing the phone with a new one?

go to this website.

use your finger to press lightly on the screen, enough for your hand to feel that you have touched the screen, each square in turn, each square you touch once then the next square, do not touch the same square twice, in turn until you finish 1 screen turn. you will notice that there are quite a few touches missed. take another phone and do the same, you will notice that the touch performance of the iPhone 16 pro max screen is really bad.
The picture below is when I tested it on my 16 pro max.
Can you try and see the results?

Same thing here. My 16 pro max misses a lot of touches when I press lightly. I feel my thumb tapping the screen, yet no touch is input. This phone has very poor sensitivity. It also affects tap to wake. I find myself tapping 2-3 times randomly to wake my phone. This only happens when AoD is OFF

As I mentioned, this is what Apple’s engineers told me. But to be honest, I don’t trust 100% what they might say, so if they offer me a new device, I’ll take it. I have nothing to lose; on the contrary, I could gain a lot. Best regards, and have a great afternoon.

at 5:50 in this video. this guy had to touch the phone 5 times before it responded. 😂 this moment is very common if you often watch videos about 16 pro/max, and that's exactly what me and you here are also experiencing. i bet the number of people experiencing this problem is very large. it's just that some people realize the problem, and some people realize it but easily ignore it, the rest don't even realize the problem.

So
Many of these videos indirectly show this for sure. 👍🏽

My results, tapping lightly. Only one tap per square. No screen protector. 16 Pro Max.

Do you have a screen protector? If you remove it, can you fill all the squares with a single tap?

If there are some people with a 16 Pro Max with screen protectors removed, who still miss lots of touches on that test, then there is something else going on besides just “software”

i am using a screen protector. need some people without screen protectors to test this.
but i am really disappointed with apple, in how they have avoided the issue so far and how they have released a “beta” product like this.

That make sense. Hope the new phone works better for you.

I was able to get all squares on my 16 Plus with the Apple Store Belkin UG2 screen protector.

Last update and farewell. I was refunded the money on Thursday. That same day, I went with my son to buy a new iPhone. I’ve felt for a long time that the Pro Max is uncomfortable for me due to its size. Since the Pro is identical to the Max, and now it’s slightly bigger 6.3 inch, I decided to buy that one. I took it out of the store with a ZAG screen protector, quite thick, and a case. I’ve used it on Thursday afternoon, all day yesterday, and intensively today. There is no tactile issue. NONE. ZERO (with a thick screen protector). I’m happy with the new format, it’s very, very comfortable for me, and I have no problems. I think I’ll never know if it was a software or hardware issue affecting the Pro Max, I don’t know. Now, I’m writing these lines on my 16 Pro, and it works perfectly. A hug to everyone, thank you for sharing your experiences, and success!!!

I’m happy for you too. I also got the 16 Pro last week. It came with iOS 18.2 and has battery manufacture date of December. It’s good when it comes to touch, but not fully at the level of the 13 Pro Max I had. It’s only ever an issue in my cold bedroom, and even then it’s mostly fine. It’s better than the 16 Pro Max and enough to not feel frustrated about it. No other issues to speak of. Also, I wanted something a bit smaller and black instead of natural. I can finally enjoy the phone for what it is.
