Touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro Coming in 2026 With Dynamic Island and Redesigned macOS Controls

While I am not the one who would use the touch-screen Mac (I am obsessed with wiping the fingerprints), why the heck not? Many people like using the touchscreen computer, gorilla arm or not.

A Dynamic Island will be great. I love that feature in iOS. A touchscreen on a laptop isn't great ergonomics. It's not bad to have if needed, but not worth the complexity and cost, IMO. There are people who will use and appreciate it so I'll not judge anyone who really wants a touchscreen.

I don't see the equivalency - design does not equate manufacture. It's not disinformation to say 'Apple designed...' even if it leaves out information like the fact that it was 'co-designed with partner we aren't going to mention and manufactured by a partner we aren't going to mention' or whatever else it may be.

And Apple didn't make this claim about a 2-nanometer process, MacRumors did. Apple has never to my knowledge claimed to own or to have designed or built any semiconductor manufacturing process. Even back in the G5 days, they happily brought IBM on stage to talk about IBMs manufacturing process.

And if it's about simplicity, literally replacing one word in 'Apple's 2-nanometer...' with 'TSMC's 2-nanometer...' would fix the problem without causing any confusion or loss of 'Appleness'.

Don't even want to think of the price. My HP laptop with touch screen support and a adjustable privacy screen from work already starts at over 2k Euro.

I don't understand why it needs a notch or dynamic island to begin with. The bezel on my HP laptop is slimmer than on my MBP and it doesn't require a notch. It's not like the MacBook has FaceID

I don’t understand what is so unbelievable about it…
In 2010 when Steve Jobs made his little comment, touchscreens were still a relatively new concept to mobile computing, and more importantly, were quite costly and added extra bulk because they required an entirely separate layer.
These days, the market conditions are so very different, touchscreens are pretty much nothing to implement, and I cannot tell you how many times I’ve handed my laptop to someone to show them something, and what do they do? Reach up and instinctively start touching things on the screen that they cannot interact with, and then are confused when nothing happens.
Apple said over and over again they wouldn’t do it, until they made the magic keyboard for the iPad which was a massive success, and it has the exact same issue people claim that touchscreen laptops have. Yeah, you have to reach your arm up and touch the screen if you want to use it, big deal. Clearly it hasn’t harmed the experience of people who use it every day.
Options are good.
Also, Apple says a lot of things. Remember when they insisted there would never be a video iPod in 2004? And then introduced a video iPod in 2005? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Fix the bug first and then talk about touchscreen who need Macbook for touchscreen just make iPad put in MacOS done why so GREEDY TIM COCK
 
What strikes me as odd about this rumour is that the solution isn’t typically Apple.

Apple typically designs its hardware around the input. So an iPad is essentially a large blank canvas for touch input, the Studio and Pro Display are entirely display (not even a single button facing the user), the HomePod is all speaker. How do they effectively and elegantly solve a touchscreen on a device with a keyboard and trackpad?

They may simply add it to a similar design and even underplay the value of it so as not to mess with their already winning formula, but it does just seem very not like them.

The iPad hasn’t been a “touch input only” device… Well ever technically since the first iPad did have a keyboard accessory, but if you don’t want to be that pedantic then 2015, or 2020.

I just don't think anyone really cares, and most people don't even know who TSMC is. But strictly speaking you are correct and maybe changing it could educate people more on how all it all comes together. Maybe a post here: https://forums.macrumors.com/forums/site-and-forum-feedback.66/
 
I agree with many here that I don't see a need for a touchscreen. But it is the case that many Windows laptops have them and apparently a lot of people like them. So I figure I won't use it 99% of the time, but I'm open to the option since so many that like it can't be all wrong. The only negative to a touchscreen is how much it may add to the cost of the laptop which may not be much percentage-wise.

iPad I just hardware it could certainly run macOS in theory but the big issue is battery life. iPadOS is very limited and locked down which allows for the great battery life on such things batteries. So full fledged Mac would blast through that battery. And of a big battery know it’s more just a laptop if they severely limited functions now it’s worse than laptop so no go either. Certainly options but will be interesting what paths they take.
