Your screen WON'T be smudgy at all. Not one single fingerprint unless you discover you like a touchscreen. They won't require you to use the touchscreen.

Yeah but even the thought that it's there at all is unacceptable. Coz it adds to the weight and cost. And it probably also dims the display and makes the display slightly fuzzier with the touch tech adding a few atoms of thickness. Touch UI code probably uses up a couple gigs of SSD space. Probably wears the battery charge down slightly faster. All kinds of downsides even if you try to ignore it.

The hinge is an issue I've long wanted fixed.
It doesn't open enough.
For tall people using even a bit of an angled stand the screen doesn't open enough to look straight at it.
Standing at a desk... Terrible. Have to lay it inverse angled.

You turn it off. All you have to do is avoid reaching your hand to the screen. It sounds like any touch related UI enhancements only kick in when you actually touch the screen.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but all of those negatives sounds like ones that can't be noticed without sensitive tests to measure the problems.

I have no problem with it. The way I see it, is that it's not my screen having a notch as much as my top bezel has my menu bar on it. Without the notch, for now, they'd need a bigger top bezel. Now, of course, a cool under the screen camera would be ideal with a thin bezel and no notch.

This is most likely because you come from a mouse input first generation. Many users today are coming from a touch first input methods. I could be completely wrong, but I’ve found most of us tend to prefer the workflow habits we’re used to. All three of my kids, are touch first generation, they use iPhones and iPads for school and work. They never even owned a mouse. Any time they grab my MacBook Air they instinctively tap the screen.

This is a very large reason why it makes sense.
And isn’t necessarily just the younger generation, many people I know who come from traditional Windows XP era PC’s long ago switched to smart phones and iPads as their primary computing devices and are absolutely *shocked* that a laptop from Apple, the company that brought multitouch to the masses, doesn’t have one.

Unless they replace the current plastic MacBook screens with glass, those touchscreens are gonna be terribly useless and will lead to a bunch of scratched screens. I see no need for a touchscreen MacBook.

Ah yes, modern touchscreens integrated directly into the OLED panel, truly adding tons of bulk and weight.
As well known the iPad Pro is *so* bulky (5 MM thick) and an absolute brick of heft (under 1 LB) because of that disgusting thick heavy touchscreen weighing the thing down.

To me, the biggest improvement if there is a Dynamic Island instead of a notch will be if the screen space where the Dynamic Island is can be used by applications instead of just the menu bar as it is now. I like to hide the menu bar, but on my laptop screen there is no advantage to hiding it since then it just becomes a bar across the top where I can see my wallpaper. I hide it when I use external displays but on the MacBook Pro screen having an empty bar with my wallpaper where the menu would have been when an app is not in full screen is kind of stupid. Hopefully it is usable screen space. That is the only thing that bugs me about the notch outside of the question of wondering why one wants a notch (or a Dynamic Island) if it doesn't bring FaceID.

With OLED, a dark image is clearly more energy-efficient, but a bright/white image is sometimes noticeably more power-hungry—significantly more so than with traditional LCDs.

Not of they go with tandem OLED.

So it turns out I didn't want a coherent design language for Mac OS that doesn't look like an ode to Windows Vista and I certainly didn't want a year long focus on fixing bugs and optimising the operating system for performance and stability. What I really wanted was a touch screen along with the code to support it, grafted on to a decades old operating system never intended to support it. Lets hope this rumour was started by an ex engineer from the Windows 8 team.

No, but it means that it will be easier for devs making apps for Apple’s lesser sold systems to port those to the higher selling systems.
