Please give us a software update for older head units. Entune simply sucks. I can crash the entire unit by simply activating Siri on my phone.
I am probably in the minority, but I don't mind plugging in my iPhone on my 2019 Subaru Forester - it keeps me from physically looking at the phone, yet I have access to what I need(music, Waze, phone calls, text by voice).
I'm sure everyone here is a wonderful driver, but on average I'm glad that other people have to plug in their phone too.
.
Crutchfield would be a good place to research this. Search by your model/year, brand, CarPlay/Android Auto, price, etc. You’ll be looking for usb aux input as an option. Alternatively you could use a headphone port as well.
I bought a 3.5" black lightning cord specifically to fit my phone in a good resting place, and so that when I park outside at home it isn't obvious I have a lightning cord in the vehicle.I'm not seeing the connection here... ha ha no pun on wireless. But seriously, whether it's wired or wireless, the phone is nearly as accessible for picking up. In fact, I would argue a phone you have to take out and connect a wire to is MORE accessible than a phone you left in your pocket. You must have a tidy short cord. I bet most people use the same long cord they have for everything else. The safety comes from using CarPlay via voice, wired or wireless.
Oh well. It’s not surprising manufacturers don’t build to accommodate for discontinued devices but it seems odd that a usb input wouldn’t accommodate an iPod classic. There are units that accept thumb drives and sd cards, which are basically equivalent to an iPod classic in that they are just storage devices when plugged into a stereo interface.Checked and couldn't find any that offer the option to use iPod Classic for a audio source.

Just out of curiosity why do you need/want a CarPlay unit if you want to use an iPod classic as the audio source?
Right, we’ll just have no battery life at the end of our GPS-using commute.
Wireless CarPlay is clearly designed to go hand in hand with Qi chargers built in to cars. You get in the car, dump the phone on the charging area, and away you go with wireless CarPlay without needing to fumble with wires.
Sure, for short trips you can not even take your phone out of your pocket, but just watch that battery dump.
How are You defining "foreign" car these days?
GM, Chrysler (FCA), Honda or Mercedes-Benz?
Tacomas are built in the very foreign city of San Antonio TX.
Wireless CarPlay enabled systems are required by Apple to have their own GPS.
There is an active Wi-Fi connection streaming video constantly, though.

I would be in the market as well were it notFinally. In the market for a new tundra but will wait for the 2020 now.

Yup, me too............... if they build an engine with iron. the old Toyota iron blocks were amazing, but aluminum....... without an iron liner eve, is simply my definition of instant jumk. Happily, Ford has come to its senses and is making a new all iron engine. Out of the way Toyota, looks as though I've gotta go with a FordFinally. In the market for a new tundra but will wait for the 2020 now.
[doublepost=1549588902][/doublepost]Yes, I would be right there with you......... if Toyota builds an iron engine, at the very least, iron cylinder sleeves. The all aluminum thing is my definition of instant junk. Happily, Ford is going with iron in the new engine. Out of the way Toyota, your old iron engines were fantastic, but now, I'm going with FordFinally. In the market for a new tundra but will wait for the 2020 now.
I prefer a Toyota. Most reliable vehicles in the industry and their residual value is killer. Toyota’s residual values are like 70%.Ahh... the F150 with the 5.0 is a way better truck.... you should really consider cross shopping
My Honda was built in Ohio, my neighbor’s Ford was built in Mexico. Which one is “foreign”?Buying a foreign car is an awfully steep price to pay just to get Car Play.
That ship has sailed a long time ago...
Regular consumers just don't care and would probably be worse off considering the deep integration in several models. Some manufacturers phone in their media system (most of them from Japan... those long distance calls must take the blame for sure...) but others do a great job.
