Yeah... Why are we importing these from foreign places like Princeton, Indiana (Sequoia) and San Antonio, Texas (Tundra/Tacoma)???

They're still a japanese company that don't use UAW labor. And that's besides the fact that the money ultimately goes to japan instead of staying here.

It's funny you say that for a country where almost everyone is a foreigner or their derivative.

While that is 100% correct, that has no bearing on my desire to support my country's economy and purchase a superior automobile.

I prefer a Toyota. Most reliable vehicles in the industry and their residual value is killer. Toyota’s residual values are like 70%.

Ford pickups has the best resale in its class.... take a peak at CarMax if you don’t believe... even 1st gen raptors are still close to purchase price

Funny, Toyota USA is a publicly traded company with tons of US employees, so that money seems to go to stockholders and employees. Sales profits go to US dealerships, as do profits from service/maintenance work.

As for UAW - that's a discussion for the PRSI forum

FWIW, you can download firmware updates to some Toyota Audio systems here: https://securedp.toyota.com/download-app/downloads

Can't confirm it'll add CarPlay, but should fix some bugs

If by "fix some bugs" you mean remove previously existing features like Pandora integration? Then yep, sure. Toyota f'd a bunch of owners with that last Entune update.

Yes, but I have read drum brakes are great for off road and more people use a Tacoma for off road then towing. The drum brakes also squeal less in sand (in the video I saw) over disc.

Drum being better for off-road is a bit of a misnomer because there's no real data to back that up.

The one argument that seems to favor drum for off-road is the idea that it is more enclosed so it is less susceptible to mud and debris. But disc brakes are sort of self-cleaning in this regards, so build-up doesn't really occur to be detrimental to braking. With drums, if you do get bogged in mud, it will get into the drums, and this will be a problem since you basically have to remove the drum covers to start knocking out mud and debris.

Then you get into the weeds when it comes to disc brakes being better for heat dissipation and drum brakes not being as effective when going in reverse.

I still have a 2010 Tacoma and also have a 2018 Jeep JKU. I am not a fan of the Tacoma rear drum because of the fade issue. I have noticed it in the summer with a relatively medium load weight in the bed while off pavement.

This couldn’t be more incorrect. Ford and good resale value? You must be dreaming.

Could Toyota be any more complacent?

This is the problem with longer lifespans (esp. baby boomers...): companies have too many living stakeholders inside and outside the company who fear and resist change, eroding the very things that made the company what it is.

Raptors maybe, but that’s a DB truck. F150. Not a chance. I can find about 3,000 used f150s for sale in a 50 mile radius. Good luck with competing. In all seriousness I just did a search for F150s on cars.com. 1100 in a 50 mile radius. Tundra 307. Big difference there. Like I said. Good luck on getting asking price when 1100 other people are competing with you.

I still rapture have disc brakes. So the 2020 Tacoma is finally getting powered seats too.

As much as you guys want to argue over F-150s (I do agree they are Bro trucks, but I also would still drive a Raptor), the F-150 is still a legit truck in terms of load and towing. Ford's are not well known for resell value except for the Raptor, and that's the lone exception for their current line.

If I had to buy a new truck, I would go with a Tacoma. I don't like big (what we call 'full size' today) trucks, and even the Tacoma has gotten bigger than it needs to be for my tastes. I do also like the Colorado ZR2. You do get a lot of off-road features on that one out of the box.

The new Ford Ranger looks really good. Saw it at the LA Auto Show. If they had only made it a couple thou cheaper across the various tiers to compete directly against the Tacoma, Ford would have a better shot at getting a good chunk of the truck market back from Toyota. Considering the Ranger has a solid reputation in Australia, it lessens the likelihood of reliability issues in the new North American generation.

Toyota needs to bring back a single / standard cab short bed Tacoma with 4wd and locking rear diff (locking front would take the cake). Those would sell like crazy.

Just got a new 25 Tacoma and it's nice to have CP. Would be a lot nicer if it worked. Only connects correctly about half the time. Need to go back to the dealer but just haven't done it yet!!
