We have more than two parties. Green,Librarian and many more. The trouble is the two parties have a stronghold on the political system in the U.S.
What has traditionally happened if a minor party becomes a promiate player one of the mainstream parties adopts its political point of view. You can see that now. The Republican Party has become a populist party, and are absorbing traditional Populist Democrats. It is fascinating to those of us who study US history in detail and are privileged to watch directly a National Correction.

I know we have multiple. I see them on the ballot. The issue, I think, is that not enough votes for them because no one has a history of what 3rd parties can do in any type of office. The 3rd parties don't even get on stage on the debates.

I just want the unsolicited, spam texts to stop. I am "swipe left, delete and report junk'ing" in my sleep!
Me too

I just got TWO this morning reminding me about the polls being open and I can't wait for it all to stop

I wish there were some switch I could flip with having voted already (did early voting back on Fri) so I don't have to keep getting these, mailers, etc

I used to enjoy following politics until it turn into a nasty version of professional wrestling.
To each their own

I have never been fully into it, because the fact that I've seen it break families just makes me mad

To say that I'm so ready for today to come and go is a huge understatement

Sadly though, I don't think we'll see a winner declared tonight though just like 2020

I’m shocked people in the US are being bombarded with texts without the option to turn them off. We just had elections in Europe and I got… zero messages. Thanks EU Privacy!

Well, to my knowledge, there is one thing that could last from our civilization and expand over the universe: AI.

If the current AI race continues, and we develop super intelligence able to develop even more intelligent machines/beings, they will probably be able to leave this planet and expand beyond the limits of our system, galaxy, or even cluster.

Time is not a problem for AI, as it doesn’t age. The silicon components may, but I’m sure super intelligent AIs will find a way to build and maintain servers for millennia, unlike us that build a machine expecting it to break after a few years to incentivize consumption.

Ugh this is really not what I need but --- yeah I'll do it. I have some ambien, I'll still sleep tonight at least for a few hours.
My thoughts verbatim. It’s just too cool not to have.

As a grown adult, I’m going to melt my brain playing video games all night to distract myself.

Helpful for those who will use this but I’ll be busy doing anything other than following the election. I already voted and my following the election won't change anything. That means I will ignore it from here on out. I might as well do something more productive — like stare at a blank wall, or play a game, or go for a walk.

If you have a blank wall, a projector and a treadmill you could do all of those three things at the same time!

If you listen to the left, voting right will end the world.

Apple News is providing Live Activities support for the 2024 U.S. presidential election, allowing iPhone and iPad users to track electoral results in real time directly from their Lock Screen.

The feature is rolling out for U.S. users over the course of Election Day, November 5, providing continuous updates of the electoral count. So if you're interested, you don't need to repeatedly check news websites or unlock your device.

If you have an iPhone 14 Pro or later model running iOS 16.1 or newer, or an iPad running iPadOS 17 or later, you can activate the feature through the Apple News app. Setting it up in advance ensures you won't miss any updates when coverage begins. Open the Apple News app and tap the prominent "Follow Live" button when prompted.

When active, the Live Activity will appear as an interactive widget on your Lock Screen – you can quickly access detailed coverage with a tap. For iPhone 14 Pro and newer models, updates will also be visible in the Dynamic Island at the top of the display, even if you're doing something else on your iPhone.

What time do the updates start tonight?

No thank you! The goal today is to avoid the news like the plague and pretend the election isn’t even happening.
Well… you are doing a bad job since you are posting a comment in an election-related tech news article. 😂

What's ranked voting?

We need to retire the EC. It's been manipulated past it's usefulness, and the fact we constantly have a handful of swing states that decide the election because of the EC, is proof it's not working. Popular vote. 1 person, 1 vote, then count them. The candidate with the most, wins.
The basics are that you would vote for candiates in a ranked order. Vote for A as a first choice and B as a second choice and C as a third. If any one wins 50+% they win. If it's 40-40-20 then C is knocked out and C's votes go to the second choice.

1) I think the correct party name previously mentioned is Whigs, not Wigs

2) not sure if this will work for those outside the US, but the Washington Post app has a live activity for election results (turn it on in settings). NY Times may also have one, but I didn’t try it.

That’s only true in a normal situation with two normal rational candidates with opposing views to fix real societal problems.

This is not the case.

Usually not a fan of redeyes, but I'm pretty happy to be at work from about 5pm tonight until 7am tomorrow.
