Yeah, except why would someone else sign for a package that didn't have his own name, or the name of someone he knew, on it? The address would have been clearly wrong too.
When a driver hands me a package and the pad to sign on, the name and address isn't the first thing that I look at. Maybe I'm different.

it had to be the driver..How else would anyone know what was in that package or that a package was going to be delivered at all. Fedex driver is a scumbag. I think what you should do is this..Order something expensive that doesn't require signature, have him deliver it, then once it's delivered call fedex and say it was never delivered. From what I have heard it goes against their personal record and I have even heard it can come straight out of their pocket.

Touche!

A lot of the problems with Fedex or UPS is they have so many packages and such little time to deliver them.. They don't take the time to read the address right or even make sure your the right person to sign for the package..

I don't work for either but I'm sure if they followed every policy they would be out till past 10pm...

I always find it hilarious when the commercials show the UPS guy lollygagging around and seemingly chatting with the people at an office or warehouse, when in reality, if they want to get good marks, they have to hump in and out as fast as they can.

UPS left a VERY expensive lens out on my front steps to my apartment in Boston proper on a very main street. It was dropped off at 11AM and I didn't get home from work until 7PM to see it not there. It was insured for a large amount and they knew that so there was no way any competent person would think it was OK to leave it without anyone being there in the city. Got reimbursed 6 weeks later.

Then I got a package the next week and was waiting for it. I walked out to the sidewalk, just said, "hey that's mine, I've been waiting for you" the guy said, "oh cool", had me sign and I walked away. ***** hacks some of these delivery drivers are.

Good luck!

PS... my Fedex guy rocks. He once came back after he missed me the first time around because I had a big delivery he knew I didn't want to wait a long weekend for. I even gave him a tip and sent a letter of kudos to the branch manager.

I know people can suck for either company, but if I am getting it shipped to my place, it is Fedex every time.

I used to do shipping/rec. For a company. When UPS or FEDEX drops off, if you have 20 packages they bring them all in at once, scan the barcodes, and then hand you the computer to sign. You don't have time to look at all the boxes and addresses before you sign. If everyone did that the driver would not make half of his deliveries. It is not uncommon for these things to happen, infact I usually got someone else's packages once every 2-3 months.

That's not the right way to go about it. Drivers are human, and make mistakes. It appears he misdilevered it with a bulk drop off.

I just hope he's able to get it back, and get it to the right place.

As long as I get my shipment in a reasonable amout of time, or, if for some reason, they can't get it back, that FedEx makes it right, it's all good.

Terrific attitude towards the whole ordeal. Especially given that he just shuffled it in with a big dropoff - easy mistake :)

Er, why wouldn't you? I've definitely had a driver come to my door with somebody else's delivery. I'm sure that person would be glad that I noticed.

Like others have said, sometimes with large deliveries you sign all at once for multiple packages and can't check every single one with the driver still there.
And it happens all the time where the person receiving the package may be busy at work and then they just sign for it and check it later.
Also some people don't care. My older brother would always just open mail and packages if it's put in front of him. NEVER bothering to see who it was addressed to.

Also, you might check the phonebook, or go online to the White Pages, and see if you can find anyone with that name in your area. Save any info you find in case you can use it for future reference in dealing with FedEx.

Just FYI... While this is a good idea in theory and could work quite often... it seems most of the time the names are screwed up when signed for then inputted into the machine. Sometimes the names are right, sometimes it's wrong.

I know my UPS and FedEx guy who deliver to my work asked me to spell my last name a few times and they type it in to confirm spelling as they're walking out. They have to get it right most of the time otherwise that's a huge liability.

I have opposite story of this. I sent ipad 2 via fedex and realized i put wrong one in box. Immediately called fedex and said put a stop on the package and return. Well 5-6 days later package was delivered. End of story

Fed Ex really knows how to screw things up. I was home waiting for my iphone4 last summer. I expected to have to sign for it. Turns out they just left it in between my neighbors doors! Thank God he brought it over when he got home from work.

As much as we sometimes like to dislike FedEx, the truth is that most FedEx ground delivery drivers are actually contracted out to private drivers. At least, this is true in the U.S. In other words, most (if not all) of those ground delivery FedEx drivers are contractors and aren't employed by FedEx.

UPS is different. UPS drivers do work for UPS. However, this doesn't make UPS any better though...

Anyhow, what's the latest update to this story? Did the OP get his iPad 2?

I'm waiting for mine. I'm fine with having to wait for it to the end of April although the earlier the better (of course). I'm travelling abroad in May and would like to get the iPad 2 all set up for the trip.

That makes sense about different quality in FedEx drivers. When I lived at my old apartment, the FedEx driver assigned to my area didn't like delivering packages. So much so that he would mark packages as attempted deliveries when the truth is he never made it out. I wouldn't mind the tracking information saying something like 'driver couldn't make it out, will redeliver tomorrow'. Anyway, twice, I talked to the FedEx location and they would send a courier to deliver the package after the FedEx driver decided to not to attempt delivery 3 times. Where I live now, it is a different FedEx shipping depot and the FedEx guy is pretty cool.

UPS on the other hand is my friend. They are great.

I'm wondering on an update too. If I were you OP I would still contact Apple. Give them the info you have. They will call you back to make sure it's arrived to you and if it hasn't then they wont be looking at you like too little too late. I hate to say it but there ARE shady people, as you've heard from the stories. If someone in that warehouse realizes what it is, they could take it before it gets back to the delivery company!

I have had the very same experience with UPS. When following up on a driver who left a TIVO unit sitting unattended for two days on top of the mailboxes in my complex (it required a signature), I called the local UPS sorting facility. They told me that they leave it up to the driver whether or not he gets the signature...and if you have EVER given a signature to that driver, he probably will just leave the item.

Unbelievable.

I don't trust UPS farther than I can throw it. Fedex rocks, however.

This is so true!

Update:

Still nothing, Yesterday they said they'd retreive it today, and give me a call that I could pick it up at the fed ex place.

So far, no phone call.

Again, I'll stop in there, as they didnt leave me a number to call, and when the lady called me yesterday, the number didnt come through on caller ID.

If I don't leave with it, I will involve Apple, so they can do whatever tracing they can do on their side.

Leaving work now...

I'd definitely get Apple involved if you don't get it today. I probably would have called them first thing this morning and explained the situation. At worst they could get another out to you as soon as possible.

Update Again.

I got the iPad!

They didn't call, but I showed up, the guy went to the back to speak with a supervisor, and he came out with my iPad!

Nothing looks like it was open, and I'll check everything out when I get home.
