On the Amazon site, unlocked phones seem to be far more valuable. Is it possible to unlock a Verizon phone cos I was under the impression that they did not use a SIM card?
Which iPhone are you talking about? 4 doesn't have a sim slot and there's no unlocking that applies to it. 4s has a sim slot and can be unlocked by Verizon for international GSM providers (won't work with non-Verizon providers in US). And 5 and anything after is automatically unlocked already by default.

The Verizon iPhones, starting with the 5, are already GSM unlocked. It was a condition of the FCC 700 MHz C-Block auction, when they had the winning bid on that spectrum. As long as the phone model in question supports the LTE bands your carrier uses, you are golden.

When I got my 5S last year, I bought the Verizon model, plugged in my existing AT&T nano SIM from my iPhone 5 and was up and running in minutes. The first time I ever plugged in the Verizon SIM to that phone was yesterday. (FWIW, all LTE phones have SIM cards.)

The problem is that Verizon won't let you do it the other way around. They have a database of reserved MEIDs (sort of like a phone serial number) for their phones and won't activate a phone on their network with an MEID number that's not in their database.

Is there any way to use the AT&T credit towards the purchase price of the new phone? It looks like they send you your credit after you've bought the new phone. They just give you a store credit for ~$200 worth of accessories in the store – which expires in 90 days.

The last time I did a trade-in, I couldn't even buy a Lightning cable with my credit because they didn't have them in stock. By the time they had them, my credit had expired. So their trade-in card is pretty lame.

Checked today what my 4S 32GB would be worth on the VZW website --

Was $110 yesterday

Today -- $36

So where is the $200 stated ????

A couple weeks ago, I submitted a trade-in to Gazelle for my iPhone 5 16gb with AT&T. I got a price of $184 given I unlock the phone and receive payment via Amazon gift card.

But right now Amazon is offering $211 for good condition, and that's without unlocking it. The weird thing is, the same iPhone in good condition unlocked is quoted for $202. Anyways, I buy stuff on Amazon all the time so I'm switching my trade-in to them.

Just got back from the store to do my trade in. I had to buy _something_ (I bought a case, although you could just find the cheapest item in the store and buy that apparently) and then the balance of my gift card was applied to my bill.

More importantly, there's no way to apply your trade in credit to a pre-order. You can apply it to a new phone when the phones actually hit the stores next week. The sales rep said we could come back, wait in line on the 19th, and trade in the phone when you buy a phone in person when they're in stock.

Oh, I am very tempted by this! I was planning to order a 5S to replace my 4S because I like having a small phone.... but I like having a really good deal even better!

I think Verizon's promotion goes until 9/30, so I'm going to hold off until I have a chance to play with the 6 at my local Apple Store. The deadline just applies to the purchase date, not the delivery date. Right?

$200 (Unlocked iPhone 4)
$300 (AT&T locked iPhone 5s)

They said I can apply the $500 towards full-price iPhone 6, which I can then unlock via AT&T's website. Nothing on their website says I cant

1) Trade in two phones at once
2) Purchase a iPhone 6 full-price
3) Unlock a fully-paid iPhone 6 via AT&T

Thoughts?

This is the question I've been asking. Apparently not. At least as of a couple of days ago, I was being told by AT&T that I needed to call or visit a store.

I went to a brick and motor store on Thursday last week and asked exactly this question. They said if you wanted to trade in a 4 (which is what I wanted to do) I would need to pre order through att and NOT apple.com

I did this and they confirmed they are giving 200 credit towards your new device. I'm not exactly sure how they are going to handle this since I paid for my preorder all up front. Maybe a partial refund? Or maybe a credit towards your att bill. Either way, I should be covered and you should be too if its working and you pre ordered from att and not Apple.com

it's an ATT rewards card and the process is clearly stated in the terms and conditions for this offer.

Preorders only? Did they say if the offer would extend beyond the preorder period?

Same question to you...?

Sold my iPhone 5 Black 16gb to a friend for £150.

He as already paid me for it. So thats paid my upfront fee for my 6. :D

Where are you finding this? I don't see it.

It was on the online AT&T electronics trade in webpage. Nevertheless, I just did this in a physical AT&T store. I previously preordered an iPhone 6 on 9/12 through Apple. Gave up my iPhone 5 at the AT&T store and was given a $200 promotion card. The Sales Associate went ahead and applied it to my AT&T account so that it would be applied to my next wireless bill. It already showed up on my online account.

Anyone know how the Verizon trade in works if you do it in store? Would they have to have iPhone 6 stock on hand to take the trade ins?

I went with the Amazon trade-in because the price was so much better than elsewhere, but the status has been in "Processing..." for a few days now. :(

Amazon finally got around to processing the trade in, they rejected it as being the "wrong model". Which it's not (I have the original receipt from Apple).

Worse yet, the phone is AWOL with no return tracking, and Amazon is alternately playing dumb and disavowing any responsibility.

TL;DR: Amazon Trade-In took my phone, didn't provide a gift card and didn't return the phone.

Caveat emptor.

@ John B. > Amazon sucks for trade ins. I've been burned enough by them claiming I did not send in the right dvd or cd. I am sorry this happened to you with the phone trade in. Yet another reason why I am not buying anywhere near as much product there as I used to. If I could cut them off completely, I would.

Hoping I can use the AT&T gift card when I go to pay off my iP6 at the store. I was told I could, fingers crossed.

HAven't quite gotten around to ordering a phone... but I have an iphone 4 I would like to trade in... chatting with ATT it seems like I have to buy the phone through them to be eligible for the promotion... anyone have an experience to refute said claim?

Thanks
