Oh good! Hopefully yours arrives safe and sound! This stuff is nerve wracking. I hate thieves
For sure. I live within about 35 minutes of two Apple stores, so it's not out of my way to go to the store to trade it in in person, especially since one of the stores is in the mall just a few minutes from where I work. Just haven't done that because I haven't been in a hurry to get the credit. If I were to do a trade-in for a Mac though, I definitely think I'd rather to the store myself instead of shipping it, simply because of the potential amount involved.

No. A normal 12.

You should be fine.

This was my 13 pro max:

My trade-in was delivered on Tuesday (a day EARLY, too!), according to Fedex. Unlike my last trade-in, I didn't get an email from Apple saying they received it though...

The destination was also different this time. My last trade-in went to Texas. This one went to Pennsylvania.
Did yours get processed? Mine went to PA as well but by UPS. Tracking says delivered Tuesday but Apple doesn’t acknowledge they have it yet. Not sure if that’s an anomaly or not.

I know everyone can’t, but this is exactly why I took mine into the apple store and handed it directly to someone.

I was more worried about them saying it arrived damaged and didn’t even think about it not arriving at all.

Sucks we have to deal with thieves and shady individuals out there.

I addressed this above after digging through my email and I'm glad I looked 😂 I didn't get an email saying they received it or anything like that, but if you go into the email about your trade-in being initiated and scroll down a bit, there's a trade-in number (sort of like a tracking number) under the QR code. I tapped on that and it took me to the Apple Store app and gave me the status. Never got an email saying it was received, but the status in the Apple Store app said it was received and they were checking out the device and that I'd hear an update within 3 business days.

If you haven't already checked the number they give you in the first email with the drop off QR code, give that a try. The order number is just below the QR.

I'm always hesitant when I send in my previous iPhone back to Apple through the IUP. Thankfully I haven't had any issues, but judging from the OP's experience, I'm going to have to take pictures next year.

Hopefully it all works out for the OP.

Yep this is exactly the world we live in now. Fedex guy tried to steal my ipad. Fortunately my security system recorded him bringing the ipad out of the truck. marking it as delivered and taking it back to the truck.

Fedex swore that the item was delivered and wouldn't budge - until I told them that the whole thing was on camera and offered to upload to youtube if they needed to see it.

Insta-call to the driver to "look into the situation". Got it sorted.

Food, water, and cameras - the necessities of life!

I had a similar problem last year with all 3 phones I have in the IUP program.

The phones were traded in at different times over a 2 month period, in each case I was accused of sending back an empty box. I demanded an investigation, after about a week on each case, the phones were located, I was told they were "misplaced".

This year I am making recordings of shipping the return phones. In an uninterrupted video, I recorded powering off the phone, placing it in the return box, clearly showing the shipping label, and placing it in the pickup box. I have completed 1 of the 3 trade-in this week and thankfully no issues, but glad I had the video just in case.

I had this happen with Verizon. They told me a phone I sent in was massively damaged and worth nothing. I asked for the phones from the review and it was the wrong device. Someone tried to swap out phones. Luckily I took photos documenting me packing and mailing it. Eventually the phone was "found under the workbench" and I was given proper credit

for my various trade-in returns, I've always taken photos of the actual product on and displaying the screen as well as the package, just in case ... also, mine have been UPS for the last several times and the receipts always showed a weight, and, as mentioned by others already, should show the weight online ... good luck
This is what I've been doing. I take a video showing something recent in the news, my serial number via device settings, and the exterior of the phone.

It's what I do. I arrive at the store, video myself placing the phone into the package and handing it to the desk agent. It has never saved my bacon, but I know the one time I don't do it is the time that I'll wind up in a situation like yours. I do not envy at all! Hopefully Apple does the right thing, and I would think that the shipment is insured.

Maybe USPS, FedEx, and UPS retail locations need to have forms they can have notarized saying they witnessed you placing the phone in the box. That would be even better than a video (and far less awkward).

Freaking out. Someone from fed ex stole my trade in. Apple said they received an empty box. Has this happened to anyone? I’ve been on IUP since it started and an iPhone customer since the first generation. Do you think Apple will side with me? Those criminals at Fed Ex are pro’s I’m assuming so I bet the investigation will not find any proof they tampered with the box. Ugh. Great start to my day!! Advice?

by the way, I dropped off the box to the fed ex counter in person and got a receipt. Not sure that will help. Apple did ask me if I video taped myself packing it. Seriously? Is that what we all have to do now? I told them, no, I followed the instructions for trade in exactly as written. Geez.
Look closely at the receipt. It should list the weight of the package. If so, you will be in the clear and Apple should side with you.

It could have also been someone in the receiving warehouse for trade-ins that stole it. I doubt the box is handed directly to the person responsible for checking its contents - probably multiple hands are on that box before it gets to that point.

Omg they received an empty box and then miraculously it ended up being misplaced. How does that even happen! I almost wonder if that’s apple’s way of saying, “we handled it” aka they sided in your favor and insurance took care of it. Well I’m glad to know it was resolved for you!. Luckily my investigation started today so hopefully I will have answers soon. I also noticed that my device was supposed to arrive to their facility on the 1st but the “empty box” didn’t arrive until yesterday. Seems suspect it took an extra 5 days. Hopefully that will help my case.

Very true! So many hands. I hate thieves and hope karma gets em!

I haven't seen this asked yet. My return box came with a strip of red striped security tape which I used to seal up the box. Did yours have that and was it intact or broken when received by Apple?

I too did a 360 video of my trade-in then multiple photos of it being packed up, and the box sealed with the address label. Not as elaborate as some here did. I got an email today from Apple that my trade-in passed inspection and the full trade-in credit would be put back to my CC in the next few days.

Did you put that striped tamper proof sticker over an edge? That’s what it’s for.
I didn’t receive a sticker like that in my return box. Only two generic slabs of tape were included. I used both. The box seemed very secure. Next time I’m going to wrap special tamper-proof tape around every corner 5 times hahaha. Will look like a big marshmallow

It probably was their way of handling it since I would not back off until the issues were resolved.

Geez was I the only one who didn’t get this red tape!!! I’ve been with IUP since it’s first year and never seen tape like that. Only tape that came with it was a sheet with 2 clear slabs to throw on the box.
