“ JetDrive SSDs deliver the performance you need.”

They're not PCIe and the don't really deliver performance...

My SATAIII SSDs is quite fast so while you may not be pleased with that. I'd say a SATA SSD is going to be faster then a SATA HD. So in a sense they are delivering performance. Just not to your liking.

Pretty Cool, Still Prefer a Cheaper Factory Installed Option

Very cool, but I'd still prefer it if Apple weren't such *****s and charged a reasonable rate and more options for SSD Upgrades. I understand them being expensive a few years ago when it was new technology, but now at least 256 should be standard with 500 and 1tb options at a reasonable price.

Hi treichert,
You'll be pleasantly surprised that our JetDrive SSDs are significantly faster than OEM Apple SSDs. For example, our 480GB JetDrive 520 installed in a 128GB Mid 2012 MacBook Air boosted sequential read speeds from 403 MB/s to 490 MB/s and sequential write speeds from 150 MB/s to 422 MB/s*. We'll be providing samples to various media for third party testing to substantiate our claims as well.

*Tested with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test

I genuinely didn't know it was even possible to upgrade the SSD. I thought Apple had welded them on. Good to know as I have a rather large music collection.

Big whoop. OWC has had this option for quite some time. Isn't that right? Unless these have more capacity or are a better bang for the buck, who cares...?

When I first saw the headline, I was like, "Dang, I shouldn't have spend all that money on my 512GB 2013 MBA. I could just upgrade now.

NOPE! Still glad I went with the 512!

I believe even the 2013 MBA has removable flash storage. Just a different connector than the previous generations.

Hi wlossw,
We've developed JetDrive Toolbox (free download) to allow you to easily enable TRIM and also monitor the S.M.A.R.T. status of your JetDrive.
That's good to know.

It seems that you have all the bases covered. I'll still like to see a track record, but since I'm needing space for my retina MBP, this is a very cost effective solution.

Wow, that's pretty nicely priced. I may have to jump on that myself.

nicely priced? 240gb costs 189$. crucial m500 is almost half the price. i get it's premium and stuff but ssd already cost a boatload of money, and now it's doubled. no thank you sir...

EDIT:
Everything you need.
The package includes all the tools you need:

MacBook-compliant SSD
Enclosure Case with USB 3.0 to SATA Adapter
Screwdrivers (T5 & P5)
Screws for Enclosure Case x3
USB Cable

Ok i changed my mind, it's NOT THAT of a bigger price. Not a bad deal it seems, huh

Yea, and plus it's a custom PCB and stuff so it's lower volume than a standard 2.5" SATA SSD like the m500. You should take a look that the prices that OWC is charging!

well i'm not from US so OWC is irrelevant to me (fortunately, it seems :) ) well, mine is 128gb but it's kinda enough for me. in the end, it's just a laptop, and iTunes match is a saviour. A lot of music, none space needed. Maybe in the future...

Oh, and there is also the fact that you would have to get a crowbar to stuff a Crucial M500 into a MBA. They don't accept standard 2.5" drives. You might want to research next time before you post.

Also, the only other place that sold these for the MBA previously was OWC, and they're over $100 more for a 480GB.

I'm going to be all over one of these in about a month, when my Applecare expires.

Any info on PCIe units? I like the idea of such a kit, but am buying one of the new units this summer. Hoping you'll be supporting this soon?

When will the 960GB be available from Amazon? Currently it states temporarily out of stock. Also, I'm a bit confused about the warranty on these SSD's, could you explain it? Thanks.

Would be REALLY great if it could also plug into an iOS device...

...and if iOS were smart enough to read it, create a file list, and populate its appropriate system apps with the media on it for viewing.

But that's beyond Apple, apparently. We're never supposed to leave the wifi in our living rooms.

Lets compare apples to apples.

OWC is selling a 480GB SSD for the 2012 MBA/MBP for 450. Transcend has it 349. A 101 dollars cheaper.

You cannot compare standard SSD with the proprietary SSD modules in MBAs/rMBPs because there's a dearth of sellers.

I meant m500 mSata, not the 2.5. Of course it won't fit. But anyway, yeah, the MBA's ssd is still like a half of mSata, although it's just longer, while mSata is wider. On the other hand, crucial's m2 form factor is http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HBKN2GG/ref=twister_B00HBKM6VI which is similar to MBA's and costs a less, but doesn't have all the perks transcends provides, so in the end, i have to agree, it's a good deal. kinda.

Hello cbs20,
I would like to say within a few weeks, but I want to be 100% certain before I give you an exact date.
Our SSDs carry a 5 year warranty and the enclosure comes with a 2 year warranty.

Now that is a well thought out product. I would get this!

I wonder how many people without the hand eye coordination gene are going to wreck their Mac Book Pros trying to do this upgrade?

it's not that difficult. actually, it's pretty easy. opening a 2007 iMac and 2009 mini required a lot more sensibility and agility :)

960GB - how many weeks?

Transcend rep:

I'm going on a trip towards the middle/end of May, and I REALLY want the 960 GB drive. When you mentioned a few weeks, would that be before, say, May 20?
