Max Performance???

Transcend, I'm looking at TS480GJDM520 for my MBA.
But I'm getting confused about your transfer speed.

On your site you write:
Max Seq. Read: 495MB/s
Max Seq. Write: 427MB/s

On Amazon they write:
Max. Read 530MB/s
Max. Write 285MB/s
(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JKCHNPE)

What's the correct transfer speed?

Cheers

I meant m500 mSata, not the 2.5. Of course it won't fit. But anyway, yeah, the MBA's ssd is still like a half of mSata, although it's just longer, while mSata is wider. On the other hand, crucial's m2 form factor is http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HBKN2GG/ref=twister_B00HBKM6VI which is similar to MBA's and costs a less, but doesn't have all the perks transcends provides, so in the end, i have to agree, it's a good deal. kinda.

And there is the fact that Crucial's m2 form factor isn't on the market yet...

Hi JBDK,
The information on Amazon appears to be incorrect and should be fixed soon. The correct transfer speeds are whats listed on the Transcend website.

The amazon listings are confusing.

TS240GJDM520

that's the capacity.

The upgrade kit comes with the SSD and external enclosure. You can either install the SSD into the enclosure permanently, or use it to assist in data migration and then swap out with your current SSD.

The TS240GJDM520 is 240GB. The size is displayed on the website, although it is as an image so perhaps it didn't load.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. It's funny how they didn't bother to list the size the of the SSD anywhere else on the page.

Looks like they just modified the title on their website.

what's the word on late 2013 kits? why does no aftermarket currently exist for these models?
Hi leftynaut,
The Mid 2013 Air, Late 2013 rMBP, and Late 2013 Mac Pro all use PCIe SSDs. Currently only the major OEMs have access to PCIe SSD controllers. When these controllers become more available, Transcend will be the first to offer an upgrade option for these models.

Hi treichert,
You'll be pleasantly surprised that our JetDrive SSDs are significantly faster than OEM Apple SSDs. For example, our 480GB JetDrive 520 installed in a 128GB Mid 2012 MacBook Air boosted sequential read speeds from 403 MB/s to 490 MB/s and sequential write speeds from 150 MB/s to 422 MB/s*. We'll be providing samples to various media for third party testing to substantiate our claims as well.

*Tested with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test

Are there plans for the future or is it even possible to do this with the PCIe MacBook Pros?

Thank you for this info! I was also wondering why there haven't been any aftermarket upgrades for the 2013 MBA SSDs. I would be very interested ini one provided the price was at least moderately competitive.

PS This post got my hopes up sooo much and then...dashed :(

Once these have been out for a couple of months and no serious issues pop up, I'm pretty sure I'm getting an upgrade. Even though my 2011 MBA can only take up to 480GB, that's still a helluva nice deal.

Also, nice job on the video. They made it look extremely user friendly to complete the transplant. Plus the enclosure... I somehow feel cheated. They left me nothing to complain about.

They seem to have thought of everything; it appears to be a great product at an attractive price, and I'm not complaining here, but dang, no PCIe version yet for 2013 Airs, and double dang, doesn't this invalidate AppleCare?
By the time that runs out, I'll probably be looking at a newer laptop model. It's a great option for those without (or outside of) the three year extended warranty.

Wow, that's pretty nicely priced. I may have to jump on that myself.

Yes it is, performance numbers would be interesting but all in all this just demonstrates how out of line Apples prices are. I'm actually hoping that Intels foul up with Haswell Refresh give Apple the incentive to update flash and RAM in all devices.

That sucks.

I have to wonder what the issue with the newer AIR's is.

Nice, wonder if they will also sell external hard drives like this, but thunderbolt based rather than USB 3.0, if it increases the read/write speeds of course!

not to mention slimmer/lighter external HDD!

Knew it was going to happen sometime, it'll only get better from here. Very nice extra exclosure, this is something I will consider for sure.

Hey Trascend,

Just curious, how come these are 240/480/960 instead of 256/512/1024? Can you say what kind of controller is used?

Good point about the warranty. I am one of those. I never buy extended warranties b/c Amex automatically adds a year after the product warranty. My MBA is still rock solid but you can never have too much memory. I really hope the JetDrive lives up to the potential I see. If it does, I could easily pull another year and a half from my MBA.

Wouldn't you know it. I bought the OWC 480GB SSD kit last week for $449.00 for my 2012 MBA. They also sell a kit with tools and a USB 3.0 Module for $475.00

http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Soli...acbook+air+ssd

And No Shipping!!!!

And OWC doesn't Price Match!!!!

Hello, TranscendInfo. Are there any plans of offering Thunderbolt enclosures for the SSDs instead of USB 3?

Hello brdeveloper,
Since the current batch of JetDrives have a SATA III controller with a max bandwidth of 6Gb/s, a Thunderbolt enclosure with a max bandwidth of 10Gb/s would offer minimal speed increases over a USB 3.0 enclosure with a max bandwidth of 5Gb/s. In the future with PCIe SSDs, then Thunderbolt would make more sense.

Hope that answers your question!
