Below is a real quick view using Google Earth to approximate what Apple could have done with a Monterey view that captures the city and the rest of the Monterey Peninsula and captures some of that area's beauty. I don't mean this particular one or angle should be used, just that there are angles that can make a similar picture like the Catalina or Big Sur wallpapers.

My biggest problem with the abstract color wallpaper in Monterey is it seems silly to name the OS Monterey if you're not going to use the beauty of that area in the branding.

It's obvious now that sometime before Big Sur's release someone at Apple thought using the abstract color wallpaper was the way to go, but they probably had the Big Sur picture all prepared already so included it.

So, for Monterey they decided not to bother with the real picture of Monterey and just used the abstract color one for the icon and wallpaper.

I'd have preferred the choice with somehting Apple provided with all Macs (I support Macs for a living, so always changed the Big Sur desktop to the picture when setting them up :) ).

As silly as it sounds, I asked Apple to add a Apple wallpaper app or just for them to add all wallpapers to the existing app/setting. Maybe update the app every season with new wallpapers. I never did hear back but I did receive an anonymous call shortly after the email went out that featured a hearty laugh then a disconnect.
Wait! How were they able to call you? Did you leave a phone number out?

As of this morning, 2021-11-03, Chicago time, the link to the dynamic wallpaper is generating an HTTP404 error.

Hmm ? Yes, that does very possible

I was wondering what happened to the wallpapers. Suspect they just didn’t see a good enough image to include, but already had chosen a name.

Hmmm ? I had no problems accessing the Services menu and choosing 'Set Desktop Picture' but confusingly, it doesn't seem to be changing according to the time of day. I wonder what I am doing wrong....? Anyone else encountered this issue?

I noticed that if you have multiple desktops - it doesn't work with instructions from MR. However, if you put into /Library/Desktop Pictures (see earlier in thread) it does seem to work.

Create a folder under /Library name "Desktop Pictures". You'll have to enter admin password to make a folder there. and put it in there.. then it will show in system prefs under the dynamic (though you might have to quit and reopen system prefs to make it refresh to show up).
Jesus. this took way too long but thank you, finally a correct and easy answer.

I'm very picky as to where I download from. Is the above the correct link for us to go to? If so, why hasn't the "broken" link been updated or corrected?

I downloaded the static image, and for now, that's my desktop picture. At some point I'll likely change it to one of my own photos.

It's disappointing that Apple seems to like these blobs of color, which I find very annoying. I would prefer a plain gray background for my wallpaper, but having a beautiful photo is even better. The group that did this included a professional photographer who does work for National Geographic, and the end result shows how capable this person is.

It would be nice to have this image as a "dynamic" wallpaper, but a static image is also OK. I still have "Magic Windows 4K" (I think that's the right name). Their choices are very nice too, but I went back to using my own photos.

Thanks to all of you anyway, but I'm going to stop looking for updates to this issue.

I get that - but the original link was to a dropbox that either was made inactive or had a time limit of sharing. The link above is the website of the guys that made the dynamic picture. I too am generally hesitant to click on links but a work around to help minimize risk is to type in the address manually if you are concerned about manipulated or corrupted links.

Quoting myself, but I fixed it. The easiest thing to do is just drag the dynamic file into /Library/Desktop Pictures. Any .heic files in there are added to the dynamic desktop panel in System Preferences.
How did you fix it?
for some reason I don't have that "Services" option either... When trying to copy the helc file it doesn't allow me to copy. When I unlock the options of the folder Desktop Pictures and set everyone to read and write, it tells me that I have no permission to do it....

On a 2nd thought... if I go to Finder (near the apple logo) and click the option key, it allows me to Set as Desktop Background!
The picture that I’ve attached (snapshot) is it the night shot?

I got it, it is beautiful. Nice effort.

Now, I know I will sound like an old broken record, but can someone "re-create" Front Row (Tiger style), coloured Finder sidebar icons and create a way to remove unwanted wallpapers and screesavers, to save GB? Thank you in advance

Yes, that's all unfortunately. It sounds grouchy and ungrateful to complain about a free gift but the lack of real night shots does let the dynamic desktop package down. The cloudy skies aren't ideal either really. A+ for effort and good intentions, B+ for execution

My gmail has been invaded by spammers (very explicit porno, bs money offers... the whole nine yards) and it happened shortly after installing this on my MBP. I'm guessing it's due to something I did, but just in case, anybody else have the same coincidence?
