Does anyone else feel like this is building up to be a Saturday Night Live sketch. Like with the razors. Now they have 3 lenses. Now they have 4. Introducing the 37 lens Iphone. lol

"A House fly has red compound eyes. Each eye contains 4000 lenses that enable visualization of different pictures at the same time...."

Pretty soon it'll be called the Fly Phone.

No need. You require 2 eyes to see in 3D and 2 ears to hear in stereo. And what do you know, Nature already took care of that.
Haha, thanks, but that’s the joke I was making. ;) One only needs two optical sensors for 3D perception, yet Apple is adding a third.

The iPhone SE isn't three years old. When the iPhone X was launched it was only 18 months old.

Definitely a reason to complain if the only thing you are ever interested is the top model. But the funny thing is, if Apple had only released the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus (at their current prices), you wouldn't be able to complain about the price. But because Apple is adding a new model on top, you are able to complain.

I wonder, are you also upset about the price of the iMac Pro? To get the best iMac, you are now spending about twice than you did a year ago.
An iMac Pro is using professional grade equipment, something unseen thus far in the iMac lineup. iPhones typically use the latest and greatest components in the smartphone market. The only thing not state-of-the-art (or near) in the iPhone X is the RAM capacity.

iMacs use mid-range computer parts with an infinite amount of headroom for Apple to up the components to get more performance. The iMac Pro is the result of that. The same cannot be said about the iPhone X. It’s simply the latest iPhone. Apple uses the iPhone 8 to justify the price increase of the X. Quite clever actually.

People can (and will) complain about anything. The radical price increase in the smartphone industry is the result of payment plans.

Oh, wait I've got a rumor for 2020 iPhone already...

Introducing the iPhone Fly

Huawei P20 already has 3 lenses on their phone. Once again Apple copying Android. Keep trying to innovate or let others innovate and just copy, the Apple way. Just fanning the flames, having a little fun from Colorado.

Android is software made by Google, not hardware made by Huawei.

Even Apple can't break the laws of optical physics.

However, instead of faulting the camera module for protruding (again physics will not budge), recognize the real issue is the "thinning" of the phone to less than the thickness of a fundamental part. The easy solution is the iPhone 5 solution: make the camera body the same thickness as the module.

Bonus: fill the new-found space with all of the consumer wants not able to fit into the "thinner" as available now.
That's great until Apple becomes the laughing stock of the tech world with the thickest and heaviest flagship phone on the market. They would sooner remove the camera altogether before they make the phone thicker to "hide" the bulge.

Since this is just a rumor, the rumor news is actually copying Huawei for now ;-)

I doubt that tech world cares enough about "thinner" to try to make any company a laughing stock over a few mm. And if Apple spun new features requiring reclaiming a few mm, the ADF would leap to the occasion to argue the merits of those new features- whether actually good or bad for us consumers. We wouldn't be talking about grossly thicker- just iPhone 5 thin... which was apparently perfectly thin enough when THAT was the phone design Apple wanted to sell.

However, I agree. Given that Apple was able to jettison the headphone jack and generally woo enough buyers (anyway), why not jettison the camera out to an add-on accessory?

And why not battery too?

Just recycle several of the same bits of rationale for the headphone jack, such as both being even older technologies begs for the "antiquated" tag, etc. No camera + no battery could allow that iPhone to go ridiculously thin (so that Apple can avoid being the laughing stock) and then sell us a separate battery + camera case (proprietary of course) to drive up total average price-per-unit sold... so that we can buy (separately) the same features historically baked inside an iPhone (and pay more for them). We don't seem to care- whatever Apple wants to do is exactly what we'll want... and then argue with others why they should be perfectly happy with what a corporation has decided for them too.

This exact scenario happened this year with the iPhone X. While I didn’t mind the extra thickness, I was turned off by the additional weight.

This is like the 5 blade razors. How about improving the lenses and providing optical zoom on the existing cameras or alternatively, adding a port to attach an optional lens assembly for people who want more zoom? Also, fix your OS and stop slowing it down for people with older models. I do not like that the iPhone 6Plus I gave my wife is slowing down so much after updates. I paid a lot of money for that phone back in the day. Androids used to be slow but now iPhones are slowed down by updates. This is not the Apple of Steve Jobs anymore. They used to pride themselves on improving performance over time.

This actually makes a lot of sense. It's a clever solution to optical zoom without the constraints of a telescopic lens that is only possible with digital photography. I'm surprised this wasn't thought of long ago.

Digital photography can provide a seamless transition between one lens to the other by overlapping images at sweet spots where 2 lenses' view coexists.

The next evolution in this technology could come with miniaturized lenses and sensors with dozens of cameras hidden under a glass or even hidden in a screen between pixels. Multiple lenses with different optical lengths for zoom and apertures for varying low light capabilities.

The solution is clever but any focal point longer than an average arm is wasted on most users. They only want to take selfies and pics of their food.

Apple innovating with camera tech is one reason why I stay with iPhone.
Please tell me you are joking!

Consumer are shallow and they use Apple iPhone products as status symbols and fashion statements. The 8 was the same stale design that was used in the 7, 6S and 6. People were looking for something new and fresh, iPhone X hit the mark. If the iPhone 8 had a whole new design and the iPhone X retained its present design, that is when one can say if the X was a true success. Apple knows this, hence their increased the price for the X.

It’s a sad reality, people will pay more to show the world of their perceived status. The irony of all this is that most can barely afford it which in factuality is deceiving oneself to the world of their insecurities.

I have an iPhone SE, love the size and usability, no complaints here :) Android OS is insecure and memory management is still not quite on par with iOS, only reason why I prefer iOS at present.
Have to disagree about Android being insecure with the latest versions. iOS has been very insecure of late

Regular people go to concerts. Regular people visit cities with interesting architecture. Regular people shoot things that are out of reach. Zoom use is very very common. Up until now, digital zoom was ruining those photos. Longer focal points will get good use.
