This whole camera bump thing is rediculous. Make the camera flush. Use a real camera to take pictures, not an iPad.
Please define a "real" camera? You mean an ILC DSLR from Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, Fuji, Olympus, et al.? Those cameras have their place, but they also add weight, bulk, expense and complexity that people have shown they don't want in their lives anymore. Otherwise, you wouldn't see the massive year over year decline in camera sales occurring since 2012.
The camera you have with you is the best camera. Matching the iPhone and iPad's camera capabilities would be another way to keep and retain users. I know that I have had my iPad mini with me at times and not easy access to my iPhone and wished the camera had been better than it is. The shot turned out decently enough, but it could have been better.
If a ILC DSLR is your jam, more power to you. You'll need it to carry around all that stuff...unless a real camera to you is a Point and Shoot, such as the Panasonic LX100 or a Sony RX100. Still bulky, but not as bad.
To each his or her own, I guess.
