Man I really hate this guy. Inherited millions. Declared bankruptcy 7 times. Had numerous casinos fail. Swindled people left and right. On and on...and he’s running the show? He’s playing President like it’s a tv show. People can absorb a 10% increase?! #@*# him and his gold toilet. Sorry. I don’t care what party you are, Trump is going to go down as a joke. An embarrassment. As The worst President in our history.

How can you "get" what he's trying to do when he himself doesn't get what he's trying to do? His only intent is to sound macho to his ("I love the poorly educated") base. Other than that, he doesn't know (or care to know) any better.

I don't like Trump either, but as long as liberals continue to tell half of the country that they are idiots and that liberals are smarter and should be making decisions for them, we will have people like Trump in power.

I'm not saying it wasn't a factor, but GM's CEO specifically pointed to the tariffs for hurting the company.

And I see people praising Trump for creating manufacturing jobs, but it's been steadily increasing since 2010, according to Fox's own research-

https://twitter.com/FoxNewsResearch/status/1020655632905469957
The Federal Reserve has also noted that the deregulatory push and tax reform have had positive effects on the economy.

The tariffs certainly don’t help, but the revised NAFTA was written specifically to benefit American plants by limiting trade benefits to vehicles with an average labor cost of $16/hr.

Personally I'm surprised that the Republican party is prepared to get behind tariffs, unless it is in response to pre-existing tariffs place on imports from the US by other countries.

Protecting the workers from international market forces is quite a socialist policy. Just look at French farmers for example.

They are not market forces. They are illegal state-sponsored forces. Chinese IP theft, illegal state aid, corporate hackings and sabotage...

No point being for the free market if nobody else is. You are just getting ripped off "big league".

Right now, you don’t need to buy phone every year.
If you can then go, if you can’t you should know that’s its okey.

Yet we have a record number of employed Americans and low unemployment. Just keep focusing on the things you don't like. Congrats though on covering all the predictable points... heck, u even got Russia in there. Good job!

Please. Obama had more record growth. I find it so funny how Trump takes credit for these numbers...but when Obama was Prez, Trump said the numbers meant nothing. Now when it’s him in the Whitehouse...lol...oh...the numbers! Look at The numbers! Also how he links the stock market to the economy. Lol. Has nothing to do with the average person. Case in point, Trump gives the majority of his tax cut to the top 1% and corporations...and what do they do? Not hire more people! GM just laid off 15,000 employees today and closed 5 plants!...No...the money went to stock buybacks. I really can’t wait for the Trump zombies to wake up and realize they’ve been bamboozled by a con man.

tariffs are a double edged sword.

TDS on full display. What is good for Apple is not what is good for the US or pretty much anyone else. Apple runs itself like its own country with its cash elsewhere and taxes at a minimum, and then wants to lobby the president like it has a US centric view. Sorry.

If the prices increases across the board in 2018 are any indication, I have no plans to buy replacements for my MBP '18 or XS Max for the foreseeable future. With or without the costs of the trade war

Yeah because I’m sure you really wanted to spend 3 or 4 grand replacing a laptop and phone...
If you were thinking of doing that next year or the year after I’m more then sure you can afford any tariffs that are slapped on those devices.

I agree with most of what you said except this pro-American, America-is-better-than-everyone-else stance on education. That's exactly the flawed mindset that created Trump. America would be better off *recognizing* that they are just *one* of *many* countries filled with talented individuals, and play more nicely with the world as a whole.

Agreed. Look at South Korea for example, and how incredibly hard kids study there from a very early age. They put most other nations to shame. It's very common for South Korean kids to study from 08:00 to 23:00, six days a week from a very early age. (It's quite unhealthy actually, but that's besides the point).

The belief that somehow Western societies hold the high ground on education is rapidly becoming outdated. Students in certain Asian countries are by and large more driven and motivated whereas in the West we've become too complacent.

I've been wondering if this is the real reason why Apple has been raising prices like crazy lately.

Apple raised prices because iPhone revenue and unit sales peaked in fiscal year 2015. iPhone revenue for fiscal year 2016 and 2017 decreased by 11.8% and 8.8% respectively vs fiscal year 2015, while unit sales in 2016 and 2017 decreased by 8.4% and 6.3% respectively vs 2015.

Apple needed to show investors that they could either grow iPhone revenue and/or unit sales again vs 2015. iPhone revenue did accelerate again, beyond fiscal year 2015 iPhone revenue. But iPhone unit sales are still below 2015.

Investors cheered the good news and pushed Apple's stock higher. This resulted in Time Cook getting a nice big fat $120 million bonus.

Explains why Apple has been weak for the last week. I'm sure he leaked this to his friends.

Apple's been weak because Apple said they would no longer be reporting iPhone unit sales starting with next quarters earnings report. Investors, particularly hedge funds, didn't like the news. It's never good to get less information about how well the company is doing especially when iPhone revenue makes up almost 60% of total company revenue.

Then there were the numerous reports from Apple's parts suppliers who said parts orders are getting cut and that iPhone demand isn't that strong.

China relays on workers only because they are cheaper than machines. Who says that US would need thousands of workers to make iPhones? We are better than that. If this country got their **** together, I could see them being far less dependent on manual labor that China and other provides.
I woudn't say this is true. I would say it's geopolitical. you will not get tax breaks by asking to build a facotry with robots. This is why the foxconn factory in Wisconsin was so controversial.

Within 50 years, the majority of industrialized 1st world nations will be paying their people a living wage because most jobs will be automated. Has nothing to do with socialism, it will be a necessity.

And he blamed it on the Chevy Cruze not selling well. Lol.

I mean it probably does sell poorly. People that previously bought sedans are moving to CUVs. Look at all the cars GM and Ford have cancelled. FCA cancelled the 200 and Dart as well. The Dodge Charger is sticking around because, a) it shares a lot of the same parts with the Challenger and is made in the same factory, and b) it’s actually a rather compelling vehicle option, unlike the appliance sedans Ford and GM have cancelled.

there's no reason why both can't be true. Sure, let's trade record number of employment for literally ghost towns ones factories leave.

Don’t like seeing him pick and choose different products. Make it 20 percent for all products built in China.

It will create shopfitting jobs for all the new signs turning $ stores into $1.20 stores. Marvellous.

Econ 101: a tariff on products from another country is not a penalty imposed on that country. It’s a penalty imposed on our own citizens who buy goods from that country.

Most mainstream economists, whether liberal or conservative, agree that tariffs do more harm than good to the country imposing the tariffs, which is supported by a lot of empirical evidence.

Trump of course is not using tariffs as an economic policy. He is using the *threat* of tariffs as a strategy to get the other countries to give the US more favorable terms.

But it’s an empty threat. Because if the other countries don’t give him what he wants, he has an incentive to back down and cancel the tariffs because they hurt his own country. And if he cancels what he threatened to do, his subsequent threats will not be credible.

Trump knows that backing down will make him look weak. So he doesn’t back down, and the country pays the price.

Whether you are conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat, I don’t question your intelligence or your patriotism. There have been Republican and Democratic Presidents who listened carefully to experts, even experts who didn’t tell them what they wanted to hear, and then made a careful, rational policy decision they believed was in the country’s best interest.

Trump is not one of them. His tariff threats are reckless and ill-advised. US consumers will pay more for imports and some US workers will lose their jobs. There are a lot of Republican politicians and Democratic politicians who would do a much better job with economic policy. I hope one of them becomes President soon.

Tesla is the only company that's made EVs that actually LOOK GOOD. I don't know why other car makers can't follow their examples. They only want to make EVs that look like a Prius. Priuses are great cars but they don't inspire passion and excitement the way, say, a Challenger does. Make them cooler looking and more people will want them!
looks alone are not going to do it, I remember looking at the GEO Storm,,,,,,,,,, looked ok but was a freaking snail

Exactly right. This guy knows nothing about (and is unwilling to be educated about) international trade and the economy. He'll just utter whatever mindless drivel enters his head during an interview and expect to be taken seriously, while real economists can only shake their heads or laugh out loud. In the meantime, it is not surprising that his voters will continue to buy into this rubbish, because I guess it is quite difficult to publicly embarrass yourself to admit that you've been conned. Bigly.

What's worse, is people who should know better parrotting him. I know several busienss owners who rely on imported products as raw materials into their products. They think the steel tarriffs are great because the steel industry has new jobs.

When I ask them what happens when they have to raise prices? They say their customers will not buy as much. Will they come back after tariffs are dopped? Maybe. So are you better off? Their response: "So you think creating steel jobs is bad?"

I do want to say that people throw around the term socialism way too easily.

Socialism is when you centralize all means of production. So you have government ran banks / factories / etc. What we're talking about in terms of universal healthcare and universal wage isn't socialism. I find it sad that republicans are literally dumbing every american that watches fox news.

"Oil drops below $55 a barrel and the US Frackers close up shop(not that I don't like that.)

Exactly. Low oil prices keep US oil production lower and hurts Iran, so KSA likes it; even if $55 is unsustainable for their economy long term.

That way we can pay at least as much as the increase that these tariffs would bring about? We can pay 50% more instead of only 10% more, yay...
then just deal with the tariffs......................... it's one or the other, it's going to be hard to afford a new apple device when we are all working in retail/McDonalds because all the manufacturing is done overseas.......
