Whats shocking is how fast he is undoing everything within the U.S. and trashed America’s standing in the world. 250 years to build everything up and three months to tear it all down. And so much damage has already been done that even reversing course now would still take years or decades, if ever, to repair everything. Some things will never be repaired or regained. A civilized society requires certainty and honour that everyone agrees to play by the same rules—without that there is nothing but chaos.

The one thing Trump said people should have taken at his word is when he said he would be dictator on day one. And here you are, the only promise he has ever kept.
Donnie has done a lot of damage, but this reputation has been degrading for a long time, everyone forgot the Bush years and the Iraq War apparently. Yes there was some redress but it is for naught due to the underlying issues that Trump just exposed (accidently).

I thought Adults are in charge. Can never get tired of all this winning /s. Tim Apple better get OnBoArd.

I love it. Trump continues to keep the US winning day by day. This last week has been phenomenal.

good; this is exactly what I voted for. I don’t mind paying $2000-3000 for an iPhone every five years if that’s what it takes to make it in the US

2x President!!! 🫡

Trump Tells Tim Cook to Stop Building iPhones in India«

Tim Cook should tell Trump to stop talking about things he doesn’t understand like manufacturing technology, building factories, and well … pretty much anything else than eating Big Macs.
He knows diet coke pretty well too.

Doesn’t look like it’s helping though.

I’m 100% serious. The vast majority of Macrumors users don’t need to have iPhones every year. Trading out your manufacturing base for an economy of Software Engineers, Doctors, and Bartenders isn’t such a great idea from a national security standpoint.

Who does he think he is? He does not own Apple, and Apple is not a state-owned company.

Does Elon Musk give him the illusion that all Fortune 500 companies should listen to his orders?

Rather than re-examining his policies that clearly aren't enough to bring manufacturing back to America, he resorts to begging companies to do so and blaming them for not bringing it back.

I can see Apple doing this strategically to appease Trump but secretly hoping for the next president to undo everything Trump is doing and magically say the factory is cancelled. IE. Invest $50 million pretending to build a factory. Spend 4 years building it. Hope the next president is more sane. Cancel the factory. $50 million is just money to appease Trump and put up a facade.
Exactly. They could even start building a structure they actually need for something else, but that something else doesn't happen for three years. They just say it's for iPhone production.

Yeah good luck with that one trump… if you tariff India further, you’ll cause American companies to struggle because we don’t have the techniques that China and India have…
I agree with you on no tariffs but the second part of your argument supports Trumps plan. There should not be any technology in the world the US is not capable of making from a strategic standpoint. I dont think everything should be homegrown but I also think it’s madness for the US to have no capability and cede that all to China or India.

As the US manufacturing industry deeply embraces robotics, humanoids in particular (i.e. Tesla Optimus), you will see the cost of manufacturing go down in the U.S. The biggest complaint is that labor costs significantly more in the U.S. vs other countries. Humanoids won’t bring the difference down to $0, but I believe it will be close enough that a small tariff could tip the scales. If I can run a robot 16 hours a day with an up-front investment of $30k and $10k annual operating cost, that’s a good start. Now factor in other costs being eliminated - no paid vacations, no medical insurance, no unemployment, no performance bonuses, no management, no onboarding, and on and on. Now the ROI starts to look a lot more intriguing. If the U.S. maintains a trustworthy justice system and business environment (relative to the rest of the world), it will remain an attractive place for business.

As for Trump, he is creating public pressure - he opens his mouth, news sites post about it because it generates ad revenue. They claim to hate Trump, but they have a mortgage just like everyone else. This should be common knowledge after his first 4 years. Trump knows he can’t force Apple to do anything, Apple knows it, we know it. The question is: why the aggressive push for domestic production?

The far left narrative from people on this site is soooo annoying. Tim Cook definitely is not a genius himself, either. In fact, he’s a terrible CEO for Apple. He might be good for a company like PepsiCo, but definitely not for Apple.
How conservatives define "far left" on this site is soooooo annoying. Cook may have his faults but he is no Maoist.

President Donald Trump has asked Apple CEO Tim Cook to halt the company's manufacturing expansion in India, in a potential disruption of Apple's plan to shift iPhone production away from China.

"I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday," Trump said during his state visit to Qatar, according to Bloomberg. "He is building all over India."
Trump claimed that following their discussion, Apple will be "upping their production in the United States."

In the fiscal year ending March, Apple's iPhone production in India reached $22 billion, a nearly 60% increase compared to the previous year. However, Trump's comments complicate Apple's strategy to import most US-bound iPhones from India by the end of next year.

Apple and its manufacturing partners have accelerated their movement away from China in recent months. The trend began after COVID restrictions disrupted operations, and has only accelerated amid ongoing US-China tensions, particularly in the wake of Trump's on-again, off-again tariffs.

Most India-manufactured iPhones are assembled at Foxconn's factory in the southern part of the country. Tata Group's electronics manufacturing arm, which acquired Wistron's local business and manages Pegatron's operations in India, is another major supplier.

When asked about the supply chain's future during the company's recent earnings call, Cook said: "What we learned some time ago, having everything in one location had too much risk with it. We have, over time, with certain parts of the supply chain, opened up new sources of supply. You could see that kind of thing continuing in the future."

During the same earnings call, Cook highlighted Apple's impact in the United States, including plans to spend $500 billion over the next four years and expanding facilities in several states. A new factory for advanced server manufacturing in Texas is scheduled to open later this year.

It only makes sense to increase assembly and manufacturing here in the United States. It is great to have assembly and manufacturing out of China.
