B&H is where I tend to buy my Macs from. As long as you don't live in NY I would highly recommend them.

So they're showing me 0 tax, free shipping, and free software to go with my $1094 purchase. This place is the bee's knees!

FileMaker Bento 4 Database Software (Retail Box)

LoJack for Laptops Standard Edition (1-Year Subscription)

Parallels Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac

i use prey so lojack seems worthless. that database software is a mystery to me, and i heard about parallels but i'm not into doing a vm. so take the most expensive one and sell it on ebay? :p

if i buy from amazon prime.. and if i needed to swap it out in case something's wrong with it.. would i be able to just go to my local apple store here in nyc for that? or is it strictly back to amazon?

I ordered a base 11" from B&H today for my mom's birthday present, couldn't pass up a free copy of Parallels, free shipping and no tax. They have the best prices for AppleCare as well.

side question, but do you know how much storage is needed to use parallels? does it require a full installation of windows 7/8 as well?

It does require a full install, so depending what OS your using will determine how much space you need. Squeezing windows 7 or 8 onto a 128GB drive is going to require good space management. I've used Fusion before and figured I'd give parallels a try since it's free.

I tried Win8 Pro for a short time on my MBA. Fresh install took just over 20GB.

I would like to know this as well

Ordered my 11"/i5/8GB/512GB MBA through Macmall.

The total Macmall price without sales tax was $40 less than through Apple (with sales tax, and with education discount). I figured $40 was worth saving, and I never have to worry about proving education discount validity to anyone.

Only downside is that they may ship out CTOs like this a few days after Apple does. We'll see.

If you happen to be near Tigard, OR, Portland, OR or Dover, DE, or are planning to make a trip near there, you can always buy online via Apple and have your purchase shipped to one of those stores, then pick up when ready.

I flew up to PDX and back yesterday to get 3 from Pioneer Mall downtown Portland. It's a $5 roundtrip light rail from the airport. Saved almost $400 in CA sales tax. My friends appreciate that I work for an airline, hehehehe.

I chose the free Parallels from them but it's completely worthless because the MBA doesn't have an optical drive and I have no intention of buying a superdrive.

I think your opinion on this one is shared without just about nobody. Welcome to 2013.

My grandma thinks cell phones should have number buttons to dial phone numbers. Not everyone has made it past 2005 ;-)

Listen old man I'm 23 years old, just because I assumed they wanted me to use the physical CD provided doesn't mean I'm technologically incompetent. I also have no desire to ever use Parallels so I didn't bother to look into anymore than I did.

Not sure where you're going with this... there are plenty of technologically impaired teenagers, so it's not an age thing, it's a competency issue. Anyone who feels a CD-ROM drive is a necessity in 2013 isn't on board with post-2009 technology. If you think spinning disks (be it CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, hard drive, etc), have any place in the future, you're sadly mistaken and need to educate yourself because you'll be the guy people laugh at for being stuck in the past.

The cloud and portable solid state media have left spinning removable disks in the past. If you're still going to RedBox or burning disks, you're just trying to hold on to a technology that's dead and has been dead for some time, so you're not going to get much sympathy here.

And FYI, if you want to be taken seriously, don't start a written statement with "Listen..." it just discredits anything you're about to say.

Not sure why an optical drive is needed...

Step 1. Download Parallels and install it: http://www.parallels.com/download/

Step 2. Install Windows from iso or usb.

It's not. My grandma still buys software in boxes. She thinks she's getting more when it comes with a box, even if the box is empty and just has a download code inside it. I keep telling her you're paying for the intellectual property rights, not the actual physical item, that's just a means of delivery, like the internet. She just can't grasp that concept. It's easier for those of us who grew up with the internet, but like all things there are those who are uneducated and\or resist change that don't want to progress. Weird to see them stopping by this site, because for the most part the participants on this forum are a bit more forward thinking.

Yes\No. Amazon handles things the first 30 days from purchase. If you buy it and it dies two weeks after delivery, you send it back to Amazon. If you own it for 3 months and the power supply stops working, you take it to Apple store. It's just like anything else... Return Period Coverage > Manufacturer's Warranty > Extended Warranty in that order.

I just drive a bit north to the malls in Nashua NH. I figure, if I'm about to spend over $500, it's worth the gas money to drive up there and avoid the sales tax. As a bonus, their gas stations are a tad cheaper, and their state-run liquor stores are WAY cheaper. Is that killing three birds with one stone?

I was on board at cheap liquor.

It's great! I came for the Mac, I stayed for the Whiskey.

Also, How ironic that one of the more conservative states, the only 'red' state in New England, shows us how a socialist policy applied to a large industry actually saves consumers money.

Actually NH went blue last election ;)

Are you done making stupid and baseless assumptions about me based off of one post? I haven't used anything resembling a CD with any of my computers for years and am fully aware that many people don't use them anymore. Like I said I don't ever plan to use Parallels so I didn't further research anything beyond what was said on the little CD packet provided.

Is that clear enough?
