Try and see if your state has a tax-free holiday. Mine has a tax-free weekend on August 2-4 for computers under $1500.

Thank you so much for reminding me about this! My state also has a tax free weekend and I can wait a couple months for the savings!

Planning to order tonight from b&h. (For some reason, their ordering system is down now). Tax savings alone will be more than $100, completely offsetting any potential back to school iTunes offer. Plus, can't beat the free parallels from b&h!

Macmall has cheaper prices. B&H was about $50 more. Both are tax free, free shipping too.

I want to buy refurbished only available on Apple.com shipped to Pennsylvania - a 6% sales tax state. (I am not sure if I walk into the local Apple store the sales tax is added to Apple.com prices or not - my friend lives there)

Any chance to skip the sales tax or just live with it?

Apple has stores in PA, so you will pay sales taxes on anything you buy at Apple.com. Have you checked the prices at B&H Photo though? I just ordered a new Mac Mini there yesterday.

The price of a refurb mini was $509 from Apple which would come to $545 with our 7% sales tax here in NJ. The price of a new Mini at B&H was $550 with no tax. So I am getting a new machine for $5 more than a refurb, and B&H has free next day shipping. Also getting a keyboard and ethernet cable and their prices were lower than Apple on these items so I am coming out ahead. And they throw in a free copy of Parallels as well.:)

I have not compared prices on the MBA at B&H, but it's worth a look….

It's not tax free because you're supposed to pay for those taxes when you file your annual tax return with IRS. The fact that most people don't do that doesn't mean it's tax free.

In PA they will add 6% at the store unless you go to the one in Philly, because Philadelphia charges 8% sales tax instead of 6% like the rest of the state.

Refurb Air "11: $719 + 6% sales tax: $762

New at B&H: $799

And I was told refurbs are more trustworthy than new because they are inspected more thoroughly. OK, basically it's a tie.

Anyways, the item will be exported from the US, so, maybe no taxes are needed either way?

If you're leaving the country you can bring your sales receipt at the airport and claim the taxes paid back. I'm not sure if that's available in all airports but the international ones should have. Look it up online first because it's not always easy to find and I'm not sure what type of paperwork they require. I know people that have done it before and got their paid tax back.

To complicate thing even further I more than likely have to pay with Apple Store Gift Card(s). Dunno if its a cash or credit card equivalent in regards of a tax return. Maybe.

Is amazon the only place where sales tax isn't included? I'd rather pay $10-20 for shipping and handling than a 6% sales tax on a $1049 item.

I'm shopping for the new 13" MBA 128GB

Oh yeah, after OSX is installed on it, how many gigs do I have left? Beause I wanted to try out boot camp w/ 7, and I know 128 isn't a lot to be splitting it between the two OSs.

Washington State has no sales tax.
