Has this actually stopped any terrorist? If it did they would have trumpeted it ad nauseam, for weeks! But silence, which makes me think they haven't caught anybody.

Silence is the golden rule when fighting an elusive enemy. You rarely give away exactly when and how you caught someone, as that gives them valuable info on what to avoid doing the next time. Far better to keep them guessing.

So, normally the public would never be told about many catches. Even if it would help make a public case for more security.

The best way to tell if something is actually working, but silence is being kept about the successes, is if a bipartisan top secret clearance Congressional committee continues to fund and support it.

Unless of course, the news behind this is big, big, big. Then publicize for all it's worth.

Because it's a way for the government to get us to routinely strip ourselves of our dignity and display subservience to our superiors.

And if we want to get a little bit of it back, we have to give them money.

Or becoming radicalized but going and getting the pre-screening done before they make too much of a noticeable splash, and then having five years of reduced security checks available (aka bad guys thinking ahead).

Well, I have a feeling it won't last. I expect this money-grabbing scheme will end the day after someone takes advantage of it for a reason other than convenience.
[doublepost=1501218017][/doublepost]Just out of curiosity, did anyone have to put their compact camera (in a small camera case/bag) which is slightly smaller than a regular smartphone in a bin to be screened? I own a Sony RX100M3. I also take a portable WD hard drive (My Passport) which is also similar in size to a smartphone, just a little smaller. What about phablets like the iPhone Plus? I don't own a phablet, I was just curious about that as well.

So I will have a bin for shoes, belt, and jacket, a bin for my laptop, a bin for my tablet, and last my carry on bag? Each person's stuff is going to take up like 10 feet of space on the conveyor belt. Ridiculous. Has TSA ever even stopped a bomb or real threat or do they only find pocket knives and handguns and bottles of juice that law abiding citizens forgot to take out of their bags?

Probably most of the posters here are too young to remember when airline hijackings were quite frequent events. And that was during the '70s, before any of the current murderous international terrorist groups were organized. The rest of the world got their how-to on airport security from the Israelis. How many El Al airplanes have been hijacked or blown up? How many would have been, if they'd taken the hang-loose approach to security many here seem to believe would be good enough? Consider that, then extrapolate. It isn't really complicated.

TSA only has to deter bombers etc., not actually catch them, to be worthwhile

Thank goodness for this. I'm enrolled in TSA Precheck. It is wonderful to not have to take your laptop, iPad out of the bag or your shoes off when going through security.
This is the scam by TSA and the government, they implement annoying procedures and intentionally fail at reasonable security at airports and if you want to avoid it then you get to pay the TSA Pre-Check Tax for something that we pay the government to do efficiently.

There's one way to get around the rules -- a TSA Pre membership. Customers who are enrolled in TSA Pre and using TSA Pre lanes will not need to remove their laptops or other electronic devices.
I imagine that all the terrorists will now apply for a TSA Pre membership.
