How does Quinn go from being a schmuck who can barely pass a sergeant's exam, to a guy who knows how to perform an intricate surgery on a person (albeit dead).

He may be a schmuck, but I thought he passed his Sgt exam with flying colors? Does the bad guy/girl have to have some background in surgery? Maybe it took a while and several victims (the police are unaware of) to figure it out? :)

Question 8b of the Sgt. exam was how do you remove the exact part of the brain that makes sociopaths nutty.:rolleyes:

Holy <enter Deb swearfest>

On whim decided to start watching Dexter on On demand. Now 56 days later and 93 episodes, I am finally all caught up. What an awesome show and too bad the series is ending.

Of course, living my whole life in Miami, I can easily tell that other than the "establishing shots" they didn't pay much attention detail of the city where Dexter lived. Especially when you can see mountains in the background.

Now I am going through Dexter withdrawal as there are none to watch until September 9th.

Spoilers!

That da-gone Federal Marshall, just won't go away!

For this last Sunday's episode (9/8/13), my initial impression of the preview of Dexter hugging a bloody body, it would be Hanna, but she is still hanging in there. If your rooting for Dexter, the previews for the next weeks episode (9/15), the pre-series finale put his happy future somewhat in doubt... but ya never know until it happens. I still say "naw". :p

After we watched the last episode my wife said she doesn't want to watch the end of the series. Instead she'd prefer to just imagine the ending that she wants and live in ignorant bliss. I definitely understand the urge, but I know she won't really do it.

There will be some major shake ups in the end, but I'm still leaning towards an ending where Dexter gets away. I don't think he will live "happily ever after", but I don't think he will get caught.

If you remember back to season two (the last season that really wowed me), Sgt James Doaks (one of my favorite characters in this series) was hot on Dexter's trail and he was under real stress. I remember thinking, how will he get out of this? The resolution of that season was amazing. Here Dexter is not under anywhere close to the same level of pursuit, but I assume it all goes South starting next Sunday.

I'm wondering if running off with Hannah and his son means he will somehow make a break with his dark passenger. Has that been implied?

Now that the series finale is on the horizon, however, why is ‘Dexter’ executive producer Sara Cottleton already warning fans that “there will be people who hate it”?

No matter what happens, I'd say that is a given. :)

I definitely think they have put the entire "dark passenger" idea up for debate with much of what has taken place this season and last. Dexter has been much more emotional as we have watched his relationships with Deb and Hannah. He has always showed basic parental emotions with Harrison, but if you think back to his relationship with Rita there was always this internal monologue that was debating how he act so that his emotions would appear genuine to those around him. With Deb and Hannah there has been much less inner debate and much more natural emotional reaction. Dr. Vogel has commented on it various times throughout the season.

For the most part the "dark passenger" has been presented as a uncontrollable impulse/desire/need that could be guided, but not stopped. However, there has been a lot of talk about Dexter's ability to choose this season and they have painted a potential future where he could be free of the grip the "dark passenger" has on him.

Thanks for the perspective. At this point I am bracing for the worst... :)

Am I the only one finding the last season to be a let down? They should have taken a few lessons from the Breaking Bad writers.

I've worked with Showtime on multiple related projects and I'm one of the biggest known fans of the show. Even I'll admit this final season is a complete disappointment. I might do an article on how the previous episode was the series' worst.

The show has definitely fallen from it's lofty heights of Seasons 1-2. From there it has coasted down hill. I'm still into the Dexter ecosystem, love the regular characters, but mostly I'm still in it for closure. I don't think they will be pulling a Sopranos... :)

My guess on the series ending.

I think the ending is Dexter's plane goes down in the approaching tropical storm. Hannah is with Harrison in Argentina. Dexter is missing, just in case. ;)

Sept 15 Spoiler!

That Federal Marshall, I knew he was going to gum up the works... :p

One episode to go! The tropical storm, how is this going to effect the end? It's either just another addition of tension, or the plane is going to go down with Dexter, Hannah, and Harrison.

Alt 2: By virtue of her wound, I feel Debra will survive. My suspicion is that by virtue of escaping, I feel the odds are high that Saxon is going to kill someone close to Dexter, that someone would be Hannah.

Gave up on this show a few eps ago due to this season being terribly bad. I even watched every season. Maybe I'll just watch the finale to see what happens.....

I find it very interesting how they seem to be directly linking the relationship with Hannah to his ability to overcome the inner compulsion to kill (dark passenger). At times it could be argued that they are also including Harrison, Deb, and others into it as more of a complete evolution for Dexter, hence the scene with Angel in last night's episode. I bring this up because it leads me to question whether the death of Hannah, would send Dexter back to place where the compulsion was overwhelming. Hmm... I wonder?

Watched the episode last night. Just ****ing awful. Dexter is like fat, old Elvis. It's time to go.

I'm with rdowns on this one. There is no continuity from the previous season, way too many loose ends, the writing and acting have been HORRENDOUS this season. I don't care what happens, but I will watch as I've already sufferred thru the first 11 episodes.

What a friggin shame.

Goodbye Dexter :(

Yeah your last couple of seasons were pretty bad but its still sad to see the show go.

Big Spoiler

I accept that ending, but nothing like the tension at the ending of Season 2. That was superb. After being shot, I always suspected that Deb was gonna die. I don't know if I buy him swimming out of a Hurricane, but it leaves Dexter with the opportunity for a televised fresh start, such as he drops in on Hanna and Harrison in a couple of years, but I doubt it. It's over. I wonder about his dark passenger. Looks like it's still with him, he has regressed, but that is based on appearances.

My only consolation is that next Sunday the new season of Homeland starts followed by the new show Masters of Sex. :):)

My analysis of the ending now that I had some time to calm down.

SPOILER

Dexter gets the ending he deserves (no happy endings for serial killers) and must live on. Not the one he wants (death).
