However I have a horrible feeling they're going to try and re-encode the ATMOS on the ATV.
Is there a theoretical chance that they will re-encode their mix of DD+ soundtrack, but pass the metadata stream out unchanged? Needs to be re-synced, to be usable, though.

PS Apple's current approach has it's fancy little touches, btw. Have you noticed that the horizontal movement of highlight/selection across the screen has the sound panning in same direction? Pretty nice touch, imho. Maybe also a slight aid for Accessibility.

Turn both on ? And keep the display setting at 4k SDR

So if i turn on both and leave it @ 4K SDR --- any movie that is 4K HDR will automatically play @ 4K HDR correct?

Also what does it do to 1080/720p content eg tv shows?

Anything that is HDR will display in HDR, at least it does for me with both iTunes and Netflix. Anything that is SDR will display as 4K SDR.

Apple might have been right I don’t think I like my tv going dark when I hit play or stop a movie even if is just a second
I’ll have to get use to it
And I can’t really tell the difference with frame rate matching on and off , I know is working cause the screen goes dark when I hit play for a second with it on

Just turn the option back to its default off position if you don’t like it?

When turning on frame rate switching with my LG C7 and Denon x1300, I get a very slight lag with audio (lip sync issues). When turning it off, it looks fine. Anyone else having these issues?

Yes exactly! I can see both arguments. Home Cinema guys wanted it. BUT when I see Cinema forums, OH MY GOD, those guys are never never never happy with anything. I've simply concluded that they need to get out more. I even saw the T2 forum on What HiFi last night and it was full of guys moaning and moaning about nothing that's going to change the world. I found it very sad. They moan at everything. In a way, I hope Apple shows them two fingers and does things 'their way' - like they've always done :)
I can see why Apple called the switching inelegant. Most definitely. Certainly, if you are happy leaving it on 60fps & your TV is great with that, and many Tvs are - leave it to Apple's default.
Again the HDR & SDR is personal preference. What is funny though is i've heard people say "Well, it's not the colour what the director intended". Well, all I can say is, if that's the case, why does every remastering, or reissue of a film have a different colour balance? Which one is the colour what the director intended? My Meet Joe Black DVD gives the people Donald Trump orange skin. The iTunes SD copy on the other hand is neutral.
At the end of the day, only you can decide. Judge by your intellect, your eyes and ears and go for what makes you smile!
But yes, I do agree with your comment.

I had some issues with Baby Driver drifting (heh) out of sync. Stopping and starting from the same part seemed to fix it. I use an HDMI audio extractor to grab the audio before it reaches the TV however and that might be the cause.

A bonus for using the extractor is that I don’t get the audio cutting off for half a second while it does the switching.

I was having that issue too. Check to make sure Quick Start is enabled. I had it disabled and that was the issue on my end.
Yep. Had the same issue. New 65" LG C7P OLED, Netflix plays Dolby Vision HDR perfectly, Amazon Prime plays HDR-10 perfectly. But none of my iTunes Movies would play any HDR formats (the movie info indicated HDR/DV and the movie itself plays, but without HDR, with no indication of it being off). Quick Start: Off (Settings > Apps > iTunes Movies and TV Shows > Quick Start) was the culprit. I have to think this is a bug since if anything, having this setting Off should ensure maximum quality.

It may be like this by design. Having it off would cause local buffering of the content on your aTV, that the copyright owners may not want to happen.
I understand, it is about the same level of paranoia as encrypting HDMI signal.

Perhaps. But at the very least the setting is under labeled or mislabeled. There's no indication that setting would have any effect on HDR at all (I'd argue the current description actually indicates the opposite, that turning Quick Start Off should result in the best possible quality, where in reality it degrades quality) and I think that's something people need to know. A lot of people aren't even going to realize what they're missing. Ultimately that's bad for Apple since people who watch SDR content that should be HDR or DV will see it as dull-looking in comparison to the same content played on competitor's boxes or televisions that presumably have HDR modes properly enabled. I filed a bug report on it.

Apple released tvOS 11.2.5 beta 2 earlier today (Build 15D5046b). It seems to have resolved some minor sluggishness that I was seeing under tvOS 11.2.5 beta 1. My Apple TV 4K is back to it's normal speedy self.

The only fix listed in the Release Notes is:

System Time

Resolved Issues

• The time is now set correctly after a power interruption to an Apple TV enabling the device to join a Secure Wi-Fi network. (35111071)

I didn’t notice any difference yesterday evening, though 7 mins update possibly 2 recent beta’s.
I’ll view a hd or 4k rental tonight.
Not much more I can do picture quality wise.
Apple4k t.v. Is very much improved from previous series 2.
Enjoying continueing with podcasts between devices when required.

I'm running iOS 11.2.5 Beta 5 and tvOS 11.2.5 beta 5 and I can no longer use my iPhone as a keyboard for my Apple TV, I get the prompt but nothing I type is transferred over to the Apple TV.

Anyone else getting this?

I forgot to mention the SE auto keyboard is no longer populating whilst using ap4ktv.

Apple released tvOS 11.2.5 beta 6 (Build 15K5552a) today. I find that compared to installing iOS betas on an iPhone or iPad, the installation routine on a AppleTV 4K is blazing fast. I haven't noticed any outward facing changing with beta 6 and the release notes continue to make no mention of any new fixes or issues.
