YouTube is as sucky as ever, perhaps even worse. Even before tvOS 16 it was screwing up when it transfers from ad to video content. The screen would go black and sometimes the first second or so of the content would be lost. That started recently under tvOS 15.6, but it was even worse last night with tvOS 16. Just one more reason to use the YouTube app on my Sony TV or the one on my Fire TV Cube. This YouTube war between Apple and Google is ridiculous!
I had that problem with YouTube too but that was fixed with the last update before the tvOS 16 update. YouTube works fine for me now.

tvOS 16 is now nagging for my partner's password 3 times a day. They never login and don't ever need to. Seems I have two options; give it the password for no reason, or remove my partner from the shared Home. 👎

Now to get to the audio/subtitles, I need to swipe up, move over to “settings” (which also fast forwards the video) and then choose that and it brings up the top menu.
I hate hate hate the new tvOS15/16 "swipe up" to change subtitle settings. I constantly fast forward the video by mistake when trying to update subtitles.

The original swipe down to access subtitles was so easy - why did Apple change it?

Update: Just submitted feedback on this - https://www.apple.com/feedback/apple-tv/ - @Morac you might want to do the same?

Try this. Open the TV remote app in the control panel of your phone or iPad. There you will see an icon for subtitles. Touch it to turn it on or off. Very easy and works well.

This is the remote you need to use. It’s from Control Panel. You may need to add it to control panel via the settings. I cannot remember if it’s already there or if you have to add it. But you can see the picture of the remote on the right side of the screenshot. For whatever reason I cannot mark up this picture. But if you have your AppleTV on the same network as your phone or iPad, opening that remote will show you the icon to enable or disengage subtitles.

So I just checked and yes you have to add it to control center. Not control panel that I kept calling it above. So go into your settings and go into control center and add the remote to it. Then when you go into the control center you’ll see the remote. Hope all this helps.

Sorry I should of explained more. Yes I’m using Apple TV remote from the control center. I even removed my iCloud account and logged back in. My Apple TV isn’t even listed as an option to select in the remote app. My other 3 smart TVs are listed

I have three Apple TVs and they all show as available in the remote app.

Anyone else's Apple TV 4K (2021) auto update to tvOS 16.1 beta 2? I had deleted the developer beta profile and have beta updates turned off in software update. Auto update is on. I had been running the public release of tvOS 16. When I turned my Apple TV 4K on this afternoon it was in the middle of updating.

Another problem.. Peacock Network
When I scroll down in Movies the screen goes nuts and goes to the bottom of the screen (jumps like crazy)

BAD Apple! (been waiting to say that)

I just bought 2 of these for friends to share my Plex with. Wrong..

The most recent app update for Peacock fixes this issue. It was released yesterday / today!

Plex pushed 8.9 that fixed the issues on my 64GB ATV (which is on 16.1). So I took a chance and updated my 32GB ATV (that had been on 15.6, now on tvOS 16.0). I got the Peacock update.

All is well :)

That doesn’t work for the Disney+ app. It doesn’t matter what it’s set to. The only way to change subtitles on is through the menus, which now take 2 extra steps to get to.

I did find something that works but it involves asking Siri to “turn English captions on” and “turn captions off”. It’s easier than using the menus though.

Thank you! I've seen that there before but keep forgetting to use it.

- Well, I just tried it in 3 different apps, and the button does nothing. Absolutely nothing. Subtitles on screen (or not on screen) do not react at all when that button is pressed. Maybe the app creators have to do something to get that button to work? I haven't tried it on Apple TV+ shows yet.

I updated two days ago. Big changes were:

Pressing the two buttons simultaneously on the Apple supplied hardware remote used to perform a reset. No more.

The volume control on the very same hardware remote stopped working.

That "sign in with your iOS 16 running iPhone" to update credentials? It just tells me to try again at some later date.

The other Apple TV 4K 2021 version running 15.4.1 in the other room still works perfectly. The update reminders are a real PITA, but less so than not having a volume control that works. (OK - I've reinstated the volume control control on the TV, so we're not screwed. But, c'mon!)

Update reminder is the worst, once dismissed it should not bother users again but sadly that’s not the case. Also, if I really wanted to update I would have enabled the automatic update or launched it myself

Or, they could have a "Remind Me Later - Yes or No" option if they really wanted to push it. But, no.

If every update was guaranteed to fix previous bugs without introducing new ones, I guess you could justify their assertiveness. But, we know that's not the case. Newer may have more features, but may not always be better. Apple seems to have a culture of "new" being cool and the path to internal fame and glory. Fixing broken stuff seems to not be cool.

In a sense, it's an intrusion of privacy. I thought that was supposed to be a big thing for Apple.
