$6 to be rid of ads for a full year?
a) Twitter must be getting a Terrible deal on those ads
b) That's a bargain.

I would gladly pay $6 annually , but No Tweet notifications other than DM's is a major deal breaker.

I’ve downloaded it and purchased the one year subscription. Tweetbot has always been my favourite Twitter app and it’s a delight to support the development team keep it going.

Interesting topic.

I have been using Twitter since Tweetie on iPhone and Twitterrific on Mac OS X. Later became fan of Tweetbot on both iOS and macOS. Bought also Twitterrific as Kickstarter Phoenix project but digged it when it became a subscription model on iOS.

Timeline sync of Tweetbot is so much better than Twitterrific's and that makes me ask Twitter why they have still not implemented this.

Th price is reasonable with a 45% discount so I bought the Tweetbot 6 trial but discovered is Tweetbot 5 is still better. Especially the better text contrast is for me wearing glasses.

Last but not least both Tapbots AND Icon Factory are famous of not delivering updates or just ditching their apps. Mark Jardine seems more involved in car racing and Icon factory in special projects.

Twitter would be my ideal choice if time line sync was finally implemented……

Just my 2 cents :)

PS even MacStories seems not very positive..

hmm... this is a little greedy, I’ve already paid for two iOS apps and two Mac apps. I’ve just bought their Mac app which I assume it doesn’t come under the subscription so I can’t ask for a refund.. I like Tweetbot but how much money are we supposed to keep paying for it :(

I'm okay with supporting Tweetbot but if it's subscription based I'm going to wait until feature parity with the official client before subscribing.
Which, of course, is up to Twitter and will never happen. Tweetbot is great precisely because it has features that he official client doesn't.

Love Tweetbot. $6 a year is more than reasonable.
I hate subscriptions and have been using Tweetbot for years so when I read the headline I thought, “oh @&*%.” However, I have to agree that $6 for a year is dirt cheap and a no brainer for a superior experience.

Update: $6 is 50% off currently. Also, Apple wouldn’t let them leave Tweetbot 5 up after 30 days of 6’s release. That’s garbage.

You know, while $6/year seems quite reasonable - overall it adds up and all subscriptions will costs hundreds if not thousands dollars per year, per each year.

If some time ago I was up for the subscriptions, now I am trying to avoid it at all costs, because I am not that rich.

Let's imagine:
Dropbox - 11.99$/mo = 143.88$
Netflix - 17.99$/mo = 215.88$
Spotify - 9.99$/mo = 119.88$
Medium - 4.99$/mo = 59.88$
Fantastical - 4.99$/mo = 59.88$
SleepCycle - ---------- = 39.99$
Tweetbot - 0.99$/mo = 11.88$
Parcel - --------------- = 2.99$
Xbox Game Pass = 14.99$/mo = 179.88$
===
Total per year: 834.14$

You may say, hold on but if you pay then you use it. But in reality average user barely uses these services so much that he needs to pay a subscription for it.

For example, Dropbox, mostly used for backups. Costs 144$/yr, while 1TB Seagate Basic HDD costs 48$ and can last you years. And in 5 years you will pay 720$ for Dropbox and 48$ for HDD.
I am no fan of subscription software, but if you're looking at these long term, you get discounts for going with annual subscriptions; as such your chart is a bit disingenuous.
Tweetbot is $5.99 annually, Dropbox is 119.88. You can get annual gift cards for Spotify that'd lower your cost to about 100. Amazon sells a Game Pass annual pass subscription for $119.99.

A: I don’t subscribe to software as a principle!!!
B: You just bought a $1,000 phone but you complained about a $6/yr app?

If you are upset about the transition to subscriptions, ask yourself if you are willing to pay enough of an upfront price to keep the developer in business? $10 is not enough. $20 is likely not enough beyond a couple of years. We brought this on ourselves.

It's like people complaining all of the manufacturing jobs went to China, but also buy the cheapest stuff they can find at the dollar store.

Just say "NO!" to SaaS

normally i agree, but they are doing it "sensibly" which is $6 a year, about what i would be willing to pay for an app like this on a year basis assuming they keep it freshly updated. you even can subscribe by month for a $1 so everyone can certainly try it out for a $1 before committing for a year at 50 cents a month.

considering how much i use twitter, 50 cents a month isn't bad.

I've used Tweetbot for years, and I despise the official Twitter app. I'm not against subscriptions if they're reasonably priced and the developer actually continues to push out useful improvements to the app. I refused to subscribe to Fantastical because the subscription cost was far too high for a calendar app, and Flexibits tried to justify the cost with features I don't want or need. But Tapbots has been very responsive on the few occasions I found an issue with Tweetbot. And $6 a year is more than reasonable for a well-designed app I use every day. I'm happy to support a developer like Tapbots.

Subscription software is NOT analogous to buying a new phone every year. It is analogous to buying one phone and then being expected to pay for it every year.

RIP TweetBot.

Did any tweetbot users miss polls on Twitter? Honest question.

I honestly never have tweeted a poll question or used the poll feature. I have the official Twitter app installed on my iPhone as well. But use Tweetbot the majority of the time mainly due to the chronological timeline.
