I honestly never have tweeted a poll question or used the poll feature. I have the official Twitter app installed on my iPhone as well. But use Tweetbot the majority of the time mainly due to the chronological timeline.
Twitter has a chronological timeline. Just change from home to latest tweet first😆😆😆😆😆

I was debating on whether to subscribe or not as I loved Tweetbot 5. Went back to the official twitter app and decided to subscribe to TB 6. Official twitter app isn’t bad, but the ads can get annoying and I find the layout a bit cramped and a bit messy.

I don’t like subscriptions that much but I don’t mind subscribing to a service that I know and trust. Compared to other paid twitter apps, at least I know API v 2 is coming to TB 6.

I mean, it's twelve point five cents per week as an annual sub. Doesn't seem too bad if one is a Twitterer. I'm not, so I'll spend elsewhere. Maybe a coffee or something. I love Tapbots, but I really wish they'd bring back some of their older software.

NOTIFICATIONS is key to getting me and full link previews with fleets. I am not paying for something when twitter is free with everything. I can side load twitter and get everything as well with no ads

A: I don’t subscribe to software as a principle!!!
B: You just bought a $1,000 phone but you complained about a $6/yr app?

Repeat the above × ∞

/thread
There's nothing wrong to pay for a software, and there's nothing wrong to pay quite a few bucks on it.
Examples, that I purchased:
Things app: $10 - iPhone, $20 - iPad, $50 - macOS. 80$ in total.
Sketch app: $100 - one year of updates.
Any new game: $60 / $70 for a single game.

The problem isn't paying for the software. The problem is that before you bought it once, but now you need to buy it monthly.

Seeing as how they come out with major updates roughly once every two years now, the math is a wash.

I haven't tried it in years, does the native app still come with ads? Does it do timeline syncing?
I rarely ever see ads in the official client. The odd “recommended” tweet though. Doesn’t bother me.

Is there a better alternative? (One that isn’t part of the world’s largest data mining and person tracking company)

Gab.com but people hate on it saying its far right wing whatever and they are banned from App store.

There is Mastodon. Its a neat idea, basically you set up your own "Twitter" . Literally. You can buy webhosting and install it, and it will be like your very own Twitter that people can join and use. You can join other people's "Twitters" , they call them "instances" and if you have an account with 1 instance you can read and message people registered on the other instances/servers and follow them. Some of them are specialized like : tech, sports...etc.

here are some examples: https://mstdn.io/public , https://masthead.social/public ,https://linuxrocks.online/public

Apps to use: Tusky for Android seem popular, and Tootle for iOS.

As with all open sourced projects, the problem of Mastodon it lacks the final "polish" on software and lack of users.

As I said earlier, Twitter is not free— ads pay for it.

Tweetbot charges fees because there is no ad, and the team has to pay for Twitter.

I use Mastodon too and the functionality is impressive. Apps for Mastodon are all unimpressive however.

After a day with Tweetbot 6, I’m super happy. Being able to show Twitter cards is a nice improvement over v 5, and makes 6 feel so much more complete.

Typically with Tweetbot I always go back to the regular Twitter app because TB was always so crippled by Twitter. But now I think it’s gonna be my go-to from now on.

Polls show but it does force you to the official app to participate in the vote. Unless there's a method I'm missing.

This just popped up on my phone.

Despite this, I cannot find any way to share my subscription with family.

Seriously, if no ads cost $6 a year its a real cheap price. I hate subscription but this is worth it if you are a Twitter user. No hate on Tapbots.

It's literally Twitter for the alt-right, so if it is banned and hated on it's for a reason.

Yes, but they don't claim that, as the CEO of it says "All is Welcome"...how real is that I don't know. From a democratic point of view, everyone should have the right to speak and express his opinion.

I am really amazed there is a group of people who basically created "Twitter" software that you can install on your own. Completely min blowing, programming is like magic to me. They are giving it away for free! mind🤯
