Articles like this remind me why it’s great being an iOS user - it’s home to the best apps (even if you have to be prepared to pay for them). But at least there’s the option for that.

Whenever I see people complain about others saying something on social media that they disagree with, I never understand why they don't just block or mute that person; there are even ways on Twitter to prevent tweets with certain words or hashtags from appearing in your feed. It's like they want twitter to do what they already have the power to do.

I think blocking content you don’t want to see is only solve one aspect of the problem (and also the most superficial one). The real issue is that these forms of hate speech tend to have a way of spilling over into the real world and resulting in real consequences for marginalised groups.

Tried it, dint like it, is funny how people talk about twitter being over when is going to take more than a change in ownership

Checked out Mastodon on their main feed, and of ~100 posts, 20 were ads or promotion related, 78 were complaints or griping about one thing or another. 2 were informative, helpful, or positive.

Think I'll pass. I use twitter for a news/financial feed and only see things in my timeline and it works well. Occasionally block someone who is negative, block button seems to work well.

From following them on Mastodon they've made it clear why certain updates to Tweetbot weren't released- LOTS of changes due to Elon, and then more changes. And then firings, including all of their Twitter Contacts that worked with the 3rd parties. Soooo... Since no one knew what would happen, they "stayed the course" and then eventually he shut them all off anyway.
They didn't update ether app for around 9 months (pre-Elon so can't use that as an excuse). If there are reasons for not updating after telling customers moving to a subscription model would facilitate MORE updates they should be open about that on their website, Twitter account etc. Not on another social platform months after the fact.

A lot of people like Tapbots and their app but for me, they didn't do what they said they would so I wouldn't rush to purchase anything else from them. That could change over time but I'm wary of them for now.

Well, if you had been following Paul, Mark, Todd, or the TapBots account, you'd know why they haven't had updates come out. The Twitter 3rd Party API has been "deteriorating" for quite some time in the form of a lack of communication from Twitter back to the 3rd Party App Devs. There's been PLENTY they've had in the pipeline as far us new features and adding polls and whatnot. But when you rely on asking development questions by literally screaming into a void where nothing comes back, that reflects on the app you're making. In this case, already having a perfectly fine running app that doesn't NEED updates (read- the app works absolutely fine! sure, doesn't have the "Twitter" app features, but that's not their fault). In fact, Tweetbot has been one of the best running apps I've had for many years.

You say they didn't do what they said they'd so, but you're failing to take into account that "the rules" have been changing for them for quite some time. Your blame is misdirected.

I don’t think Elon has to worry.

Mastodon is a hugbox just like Truth Social or Parler. I’m aware of the “oh it’s federated and totally unique!” argument, but in practice it’s just for people to create their own little ideological ghettos where nothing that challenges them is allowed.
I agree, so far this is exactly what it is. Creating accounts on instances that don’t really have anything to do with what you’re interested in because there just aren’t enough instances yet.
The other is the level of interaction with a lot of the hand wavers who are really still on Twitter and have bots posting to mastodon, they don’t interact on mastodon.

It's highly unlikely that Mastodon will be able to rival Twitter in the near future. Despite constantly making threats ever since the change in leadership, none of the people I follow have actually made the switch.

For me, the user interface of Ivory is better than other apps I’ve tried. For example the scrolling is very smooth, whereas some other apps are really jerky. Ivory also displays images sharp and uncropped (a thing that many other apps don’t to my surprise, sometimes only if you tab on an image). And then there is the already excellent working timeline sync.

IceCubes is also a good app and has more functionality at the moment. Bit for me Ivory feels more polished.

The Ivory UI is slick indeed and scrolling is smooth and the app is fast. Ice Cubes is not as nice UI and although feature rich, slow and scrolling is still not smooth although I really want to like it a lot.

There were several new Mastodon clients released around the same time Ivory was released. Ice Cubes and Tusker come to mind. I happily support them all and ask that you do the same!
There are lots of alternatives out there see also my original post 'Twitter alternatives: Mastodon & co apps' in this topic also check this comparison sheet which covers most such as Woolly, Mastoot, Toot, Tooot and Mammoth (still want to add Mona when I get access, Komondor, Trunk, Twidere X and some others.

My new favorite is the very slick, fast and also with an excellent iPad column UI which is called trunks (account, TestFlight). It does still need some features and be able to access followed hashtags (not yet there) and lists (there but at Profile) and read other instances and add a customizable footer in the app to e.g. easily access lists, followed hastags or read another instance.
