My music loving brain can't help but think of a couple things here...

First, the Xzibit video for "X" where the chorus they keep making the X formation with their arms and saying "X"!

Also, the 90's album "Becoming X" by Sneaker Pimps - which I'm sure Elon has playing non-stop lately.

Finally, there's probably some Professor X, Weapon X or DMX related things in here too, but I've already contributed nothing to this conversation so I'll just stop here.

I've made a shortcut on my home screen which launches 'X' which is hidden in a folder. The shortcut is called 'Twitter' and has the bird logo as its icon. There's a notification when you use it but that just reminds me what a bellend Musk is.

Just use one of the third party apps that still work using your own (free) API key. Been doing that since January. No ads, no algorithms, no suggestions, no X, no nazis, no paying $8 to a fascist piece of human garbage.

The key is not to apply the update. The X sign is so uninspiring, cheap and generic.

X seems soul-less

I never figured we'd ever get to see what happens when you give a total manchild full control of one of the largest social media platforms, yet here we are.

I don't just blame Elon; I also blame the Twitter board for forcing the sale. Elon wanted to back out of the transaction but the board insisted. The blame is shared by both.

Freaking greedy idiots. Twitter had its faults but now it's a total mess. I hope lessons were learned from this. I doubt it.
Yeah looked what happened to Tesla and Space X ! Oh wait!

I've used Twitter for several years now and have always firmly believed that the website's functionality depended entirely on its name. I never cared about what the site could do for me, how many people I could reach, how many likes I could get...all that mattered to me was the name at the top of the page. So for me, obviously, this is Earth-shattering and I have already set fire to all of my devices that have ever accessed the website that I will forever call Twitter as I sit here typing this in the Sears Tower from a borrowed laptop. One small step for a website, one giant leap toward the end of the world.

I love Apple (d‘uh) but I really, really hate that they keep advertising on (Ex-)Twitter while most respectable companies have (sensibly) withdrawn. That place has become so anti anything and everything Apple is supposed to stand for. And now they make an one-letter-app exemption for that idiot on the App store, too? Is Musk somehow blackmailing Tim Cook? I just don‘t get it.

A lot of iPhone users still use Twitter, so they're gonna keep their ads up to try to get them to buy more Apple products to grow their ecosystem, especially since it's time for Back to School shopping which is prime Macbook sale time.

The miniaturise logo on the homescreen still shows the blue bird. However when you open the folder, you get the X. This is such an half baked update. He should have waited a bit more and rebranded in one-go.
The miniaturized logo looks fine to me. Maybe restart your phone?

TBH, I can't say I've ever seen an "ad" from Apple on Twitte- er, I mean X.. But I have seen only a very small number of Tweets- er, I mean posts from Apple. I don't think they're actually PAYING to "advertise" there. The only ads I see are for some Blue Chew pill and other garbage.

Exactly the same as it did that day. The shareholders got their payout, and Twitter (X) doesn't have shareholders anymore.
That's just not true.

Musk didn't pony up the $44 billion all by himself. People like Larry Ellison and a Saudi prince all took a small stake in Twitter / X

Investors who would get ownership stakes in Twitter were also expected to chip in billions. Musk’s original slate of equity partners included an array of parties ranging from the billionaire’s tech world friends with like-minded ideas about Twitter’s future, such as Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, to funds controlled by Middle Eastern royalty.

Billionaire Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal said Friday that he and his Kingdom Holding Company rolled over a combined $1.89 billion in existing Twitter shares, making them the company’s largest shareholder after Musk. Another equity investor, the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, confirmed Friday that it put in $500 million.

Are you kidding? Twitter wasn’t making money. It was an amazing deal that fool overpaid for!

All the blame is on Elon.

In fact I would love if any Elon fan can tell me how this renaming is a good idea?

I've been on Twitter since 2008 and for me, the one major change I've seen is to force people to use their own site as opposed to 3rd party apps, and then force their algorithm on us all by showing us nazis and hate. He's acknowledge as much by saying everyone deserves a voice and that he actually likes the hate people tweet at him. Doesn't matter if it's "Twitter" or "X".. There's still Nazis and hate.
