To play the devil's advocate for a second, I genuinely think users/consumers will adopt just about any word, letter, symbol or image that a brand puts on its product(s) if demand is high and the service/product offers something of value.

Even stupid, nonsensical brand names get adopted if the product becomes a household name.

But as of today, what single aspect of x is in any way different from Twitter? What has changed besides some half-baked visual rebranding of its former Twitter-branding?

Surely people are just going to be baffled and keep using and talking about Twitter as they used to if you're not going to do anything with it that cements that it has morphed into something new?

This rebrand is anything but controversial and exciting, because it's all style and no substance.

It's literally just a new permanent dark-mode skin for Twitter. That's all it is. Insanely boring.

Some of the takes on Musk and Twitter/X are pretty funny.

Twitter was a hot mess and losing massive money when he bought it. He came in and gutted the dead weight and people were screaming it would crash and burn without them. It kept right on humming and one has to wonder what all those people were doing. Twitter/X usage is now at an all time high.

Musk paid $54.20 per share and people laughed at him. The stock went down 20 something percent after the sale but has slowly crept back up to virtually the price he paid for it ($53.70 as of this morning).

He has a vision for what he wants to turn it into and it remains to be seen how successful that will but, but the guy is the richest person in the world for a reason so it would be kind of foolish to think he is doomed to fail.

I'm not a big fan of the X name, but it's not like he hasn't used it before (Space X, Tesla Model X). The notion of deleting an app because it was renamed is truly bizarre.

I just don't see the dumpster fire that others do here.

Pretty sure the line “you’re not blazing up in here, wastoid!” is from the original Breakfast Club.

Though I wouldn’t be surprised if Musk has graduated from Adderall to cocaine or meth.
When you're as rich as he is, you can get whatever you want. And "Blazing Up" is obviously a reference to Weed, sure. But considering how open he's been about that specific drug for years, and seeing him talk on stage and online, AND knowing plenty of folks in my lifetime that have used (and died from) that other drug, if you know you know.

My god, it's a name change and logo change - the same people are on there and the same conversations are still being held. All this drama over nothing...

So, you feel branding and brand equity mean nothing? If Apple changed its name to Banana or perhaps a single letter like "X", everything would be fine and dandy and there would be no "drama"?

Yeah pissing away 44B is a lot of money... but for someone with a net worth of 240B and growing... It's not as horrible as it seems to us common folk. He'll still have enough money to do whatever the hell he wants with and the next 10-15 generations of his offspring after him will be all set off his fortune and companies.
Musk basically gave away his portion of the purchase of 25 billion. The other parties at X are probably not under water with assets vs. liabilities. Maybe about even. Interest rates may come down eventually so X may stick around even as is.

Tweet has officially gone. ‘Post’ is here after you apply the update.

You mean like when Google changed their corporate name to Alphabet LLC or when Facebook changed their corporate name to Meta? Sure, this is a bit different because he changed the actually app name....but it's not that different. Things change and the internet goes on. In the meantime Threads' engagement has absolutely cratered, despite the tech media's best efforts. lol

I often find myself accidentally clicking on the X to close the window. Generally when a twitter / x window is embedded in another website, say, with links while browsing Reddit.

I don’t really like the X rebranding. But it’s funny seeing the criticism of Musk. He’s made more money than anyone criticizing him. He has two very successful businesses that make high tech, real world products that are best in class. That doesn’t mean this rebranding will work. But people are crazy if they are sure Musk is a clueless idiot.
Tesla's are impressive, but they're not best in their class, especially not the Model S. That's a $100,000+ vehicle with an interior so minimal it's more like a ~$15,000 Nissan Versa than anything else in that price range.

One look inside of a Mercedes EQS and you'll start to realize where Tesla's profit margins are coming from: luxury car pricing for non-luxury quality.

Hey look Ma...

Elon Musk just managed to rename Twitter to X, a single character App name in the AppStore.
Such App names are not allowed and many of them got rejected by Apple.

Yeah Yeah "Apple CEO Tim Cook defended App Store business practices and said his company treats all software developers equally as he faced questioning Wednesday in front of the House Judiciary antitrust subcommittee." cough cough...

Developers who tried to release an App named X prior Elon Musk should start a class action lawsuit.
The ones who's single character App got rejected by Apple should start a class action lawsuit, too.

And Tim Cook should get accused for lying under oath.
