Funny how it still says “Tweet” on here.. I wonder what they’ll change this to 🤔

I know he's had a long obsession with "X", going back to the PayPal days, but this attempted conversion from Twitter to "X" to be an "Everything app" that he wants people to trust with everything, including (checks notes) *banking*...

For one, if you want it to be an "Everything app"... You could, stay with me here, name it anything that brings to mind .. you know.. "Everything"? "X", at best, is an "unknown variable".... At worst, it's porn? Or.. drugs? And, Windows users have been infected by how much malware on shady porn sites the past 20 years? Parents are going to want their kids using... "X"?

He could have just formed a new company, "X", and made Twitter a subsidiary... and rather than destroying Twitter, either expanded it into the "Everything app", or created a new app, exclusive for Twitter Blue users, that would become a new "Everything app" ("Everything By Twitter" or "InfinityX By Twitter" or "UniversalBlue By Twitter"), that eventually would be available to the masses....

But, nope. set it all on fire and ?

With this nonsensical approach to the whole process of destroying Twitter to create "X"... (along with not being able to pay some basic bills, like you know rent..) is there anyone who would ever trust this dumpster fire with their *banking*???? I'd rather trust the family of possums in the back yard with my money than whatever this mess is?

And, all of this depends on anyone outside the areas that already have "Everything apps" ... (who likely won't want to switch to X) ... actually *wanting* to use an "Everything app"? Musk is assuming that the average Boomer wants to co-mingle their creeping on porn stars on twitter with their banking? Musk is assuming that the average GenXer wants to co-mingle their dating app or maybe their weather app and their banking? Maybe Millennials? Maybe a Millennial wants to bank in the same app they share cat videos with? Maybe? Or maybe Generation Z?

I don't know anyone who actually *wants* an "Everything app"?

So, all of this, this whole dumpster fire.. could be for NOTHING....

And, the fact that that's highly likely doesn't seem to have occurred to them...

And, they want us to trust them with our *banking*?

Sigh.

Everyone is bitching about Elon Musk’s business moves and yet they forget about Meta’s dumpster fire VR headset. Pumping in over 38 billion dollars of their own money only to lose almost 14 billion last year.

Businesses make moves and sometimes they work out and sometimes they don’t. My first company went belly up and my dad had to co-sign a loan to get me out. Nobody is immune to failure but Musk
is nowhere near that yet with X as he has just started.

The key is not to apply the update. The X sign is so uninspiring, cheap and generic.

Delete this App. RIP Twitter!
I barely even use Twitter anymore. This app has lately been full of negativity, bullying, bots, people arguing with each others everywhere.. always gives me negative energy everytime I open it.
Been thinking of uninstalling it for a while, and now that it has been changed to “X” which makes no sense at all, I might actually do it :)

Unfortunately, all of social media is like that. 😕Pre-Elon Twitter was like that as well.

I've been on Twitter since 2008 and for me, the one major change I've seen is to force people to use their own site as opposed to 3rd party apps, and then force their algorithm on us all by showing us nazis and hate. He's acknowledge as much by saying everyone deserves a voice and that he actually likes the hate people tweet at him. Doesn't matter if it's "Twitter" or "X".. There's still Nazis and hate.
I don’t want to turn this political so let’s be careful, but where are you seeing Nazis and hate? I follow a few conservative talking heads but mostly science-type stuff. I’ve never come across any nazis. That’s not to say they aren’t there, I’m just curious where you see that stuff?

Version 9.67 - last version that still used the old Twitter logo and name
Version 9.68 - first version with X as the logo
Version 10.00 - first version named X

Yeah, I remember the same thing happened with Flappy Bird a decade ago and I thought it was so stupid back then too.

That actually made more sense because Flappy Bird was removed from the App Store. So phones that had it would always have it (unless/until it was restored), but nobody else could get it. In this case, the Twitter app will eventually be updated and replaced with the new icon, unless you completely disable auto app updates.

That’s right. But it has gotten worse after Elon took over. He started off by firing lots of employees, then he added the stupid blue checkmark subscription thingy, which has allowed so many bots and fake accounts to be easily verified. And now he’s changing the brand’s name to “X” which makes no sense at all..
This app has become a total mess after he took over. Instead of “fixing” Twitter as he claimed, he basically ruined it.

Naa, but I guess it's how you use it. The only social media I use is Instagram (well, and Strava which is technically social media) and I only follow people I personally know and care to follow. I don't see any of that nonsense.

I have no interest in internet politics, debate, sh**-posting and trolling. Leave me out of it.

That's just not true.

Musk didn't pony up the $44 billion all by himself. People like Larry Ellison and a Saudi prince all took a small stake in Twitter / X

Investors who would get ownership stakes in Twitter were also expected to chip in billions. Musk’s original slate of equity partners included an array of parties ranging from the billionaire’s tech world friends with like-minded ideas about Twitter’s future, such as Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, to funds controlled by Middle Eastern royalty.

Billionaire Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal said Friday that he and his Kingdom Holding Company rolled over a combined $1.89 billion in existing Twitter shares, making them the company’s largest shareholder after Musk. Another equity investor, the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, confirmed Friday that it put in $500 million.
You mentioned it on your reply, but still didn't get it. Investors, not shareholders. Different things.
Some of the takes on Musk and Twitter/X are pretty funny.

Twitter was a hot mess and losing massive money when he bought it. He came in and gutted the dead weight and people were screaming it would crash and burn without them. It kept right on humming and one has to wonder what all those people were doing. Twitter/X usage is now at an all time high.

Musk paid $54.20 per share and people laughed at him. The stock went down 20 something percent after the sale but has slowly crept back up to virtually the price he paid for it ($53.70 as of this morning).

He has a vision for what he wants to turn it into and it remains to be seen how successful that will but, but the guy is the richest person in the world for a reason so it would be kind of foolish to think he is doomed to fail.

I'm not a big fan of the X name, but it's not like he hasn't used it before (Space X, Tesla Model X). The notion of deleting an app because it was renamed is truly bizarre.

I just don't see the dumpster fire that others do here.
Than I would argue you are not paying attention:

There are more that just add fuel to this dumpster fire
