Actually this is a great step. If you think you are worthwhile the check mark then you probably value paying the $8. In fact its worth more. $8 is cheap.
I'd rather see them charge more one time. Why would you have to verify more than once??

you need less than 100 bots to change behaviour of millions in a country or stock market or.... crypto.
well, musk has shown the last using only his account lol
dont get me wrong. I am in crypto too!

its astonishing how he quickly he is destroying twitter. very sad.
probably laying the groundwork for his wechat clone app "X".
why build a clone app when elon can just make twitter the wechat app

I mean the article you picture says "documents suggest" doesn't mean it is true. Pretty much what you have posted is hearsay or potentially misinformation.

It's not hearsay. It was previewed to the press and has since been publicly confirmed by Twitter and Elon Musk directly on stage in his recent investor interview. You can literally sign up for it right now and you will not be asked for any form of ID.

Verification is only part of what the $8 is for. The rest is for the "Twitter Blue" features which include (or will include) fewer ads, ability to post longer videos, priority ranking of content, etc.

Basically, Musk appears to be raising the price of Twitter Blue by $3/month, is expanding its features, and making it a requirement to get/keep blue check verification.

The world’s richest person thanks you for your $8/month sacrifice.
The worlds richest company, Apple, thanks you for constantly paying their price increases on EVERYTHING yearly and defending the reason of the increase while showing the highest profit ever, YEARLY.

I mean we still have people on here upgrading their iPhones yearly because it has A15 processor now instead of A16 and a 1mp increase in the camera lol! Y'all paying $1100 extra a year for that nonsense! IF you break it down by 24 months, you are giving Apple an extra $46 a month just to have a processor that's not even noticeably faster LOL!

I love how people here are upset for giving Elon $8 a month but they have been giving Apple $50-100 extra on phone increases, $2-6 more now on their subscriptions a month, giving Apple $2,000 for a computer that is behind the standards compared to others at $1400, giving Apple $1500 for a monitor or $190 for APPLE TV that is primitive compared to the fire stick etc. LOL.

I mean, I guess.. But that took one developer like 10 minutes to do, I'm sure.
And then it was released to the testers who had to test the database, the APIs, the website, the iOS app and the Android app. Then TweetDeck was tested. Then the apps were regression tested, then sent to the various app stores with updated release notes. Then the marketing department had to communicate the changes... etc.

Even a 1-letter typo can take days to be released because there are lots of interconnected bits that people forget about.

At least you get something for your money, an iPhone. For your Twitter $8, you get a check mark that means nothing more than showing that you are paying $8.

It's also not a subscription. I don't have to pay every month for my phone. I give them a lump sum, and they gave me a phone. End of transaction.

It has features if you didn't read. Just like the other nonsense you pay for, so yes, you are getting a product in return.

and you know the best part about this, people are outraged for a feature they do NOT need or have to get or had in the first place. You didn't have one in the first place so why do you care if others want to pay it?

Apple charges for everything. You buy a product and they don't give you a 20w charger bro!! Are you kidding me here?

All of a sudden everyone cares if a company charges for extra features? Same thing that the company they give thousands to, like Apple does?

Does the Stage Manager ring a bell? "OH only M1 can have it." That is their way to force people to buy the M1. People get upset and poof, just like that older models can have the stage manager magically.

I just want Twitter to fail, with Dorsey before, and with musk now. It's a garbage service for garbage people, and has been since day one.

Anything less than a 404 when you go to Twitter.com is unacceptable.

As for apple, I don't need their charger and I didn't buy one. I don't need their cloud, streaming, gaming or fitness services and I don't subscribe. I haven't paid them a dollar since I bought my phone.

Everything? Every year?

The entry price of the iPhone 14 (with twice the storage) is $170 less than what the smaller iPhone X was in 2017.

The Pro and Pro Max models haven't seen price increases (in fact, 256GB and 512GB versions are actually $50 cheaper) since they were introduced in 2019.

Apple TV+ saw its first price increase in three years this year, and it's still lower priced than most ad-free competitors.

Priority ranking, huh?

Nice..pay money to make your speech more important than others speech. What a crock of crap.

Best option is to pay $0 and just never visit the site, at all.

Exactly the second you end the $8, you're a commoner again. When you pay off the installments, you still have a tangible product. And I agree, why do you need to keep paying to verify. I'd rather have it be more one time.

Youtube is, also has far fewer employees than Twitter, same with Instagram
Both rely on algorithms with very little success or user appreciation, it would seem. Instagram is full of hijacked accounts, faked accounts seeking to swindle others out of money and the very worst sort of spam, to say nothing of the fraudulent adverts encouraged by Instagram itself. Any attempt to recover accounts or ban the fake accounts with stolen content seem to take forever or are just rejected as not breaching Instagram's rules. I know a few people who are far from influencer status but left IG because they got tired of either being locked out of their accounts or IG's indifference towards clearly faked accounts using their bios and photos.

If you think the economy shown with employees serving 1bn IG accounts is commendable, then you really don't care about the UX. As for YT, if you think Twitter comments are poisonous, don't ever read those under any but the most innocuous of cat videos.

Love to see how that is counted - Is that someone who posts every day or just anyone with an account even though it hasn't been used in a week, month or years ? Plus of course the BOTS !!!!
God knows but until you verify each and every account you can assume the worst on ANY social media platform.
