I thought the point of verification was to prove a famous person, politician, journalist was who they say they are and not a stan account/imposter; not that what they said carried more weight.
that's saying the same thing.

"i verified my identity, so my words carry more consequences (vs anonymity)"
"i verified my identity, so you can trust these words are mine, and not of am imposter"

or look it the other way: why would people care to be verified, if it confers no benefit?

I would just resign immediately if I received an ultimatum like that. To many good opportunities elsewhere to put up with that crap.
He’s trying to reduce headcount by any means. Every other industry should thank him for putting fully qualified engineers into the market, letting them put their talent to work at everything there is — except Twitter.

Well the problem becomes anyone with $20 a month can become a blue check now. Before you had to be someone of stature. I don't know if blue checks want to be mixed in with normies
Famous individuals will get to another tier. For $100/month and exclusive validation process. You’ll see.

On Instagram the blue checkmark is reserved for people who are somehow famous of important, but I see that more and more "influencers" or trash celebrities like reality show candidates. If those people have a blue checkmark, I do not want one. If they have to give me a checkmark, I want another colour than the Kardashians.

Please create a green checkmark for people with a university degree! That would be much more useful.

That might be a good solution. Gold checks! It would stroke the ego of blue checks and $100 a month is pocket change for them. He could make it $1000 a month and that really wouldn't be a problem for those people.

Why is this an in app purchase?

Signed: Genuinely Curious.
Not yet, but EU's Digital Market Act will enter into force tomorrow on November 1st, 2022, and we know Elon Musk will make use of it for InApp. The days of gatekeeping are soon over.

So all the libs promising to leave proves how biased it used to be and now won't be.

Your new safe space awaits in Facebook or wherever else you choose to pollute and cry about losing your dogpile mentality you had on twitter now its been leveled somewhat.

On another note the $20 charge is great since so many wielded their blue check like it was a badge of honor... now pay for it.

And all those unfairly blacklisted will be reinstated somehow... I've seen someone get suspended who had warnings prior but they used "hey Ari Gold lets hug it out b*tch" clearly a reference to Entourage TV show but Twitter took it as harassment to Ari Gold. Yes it really happened. Biased BS no more!!!

And the Nazi name calling by those who use it daily about anyone who disagrees with their line of thinking should have been alive during this times so they actually can see what a real Nazi is.

Twenty dollars! Good lord. When he promised to verify everyone for a small fee I was thinking $3 -_- I guess the billions have made him out of touch.

Objectively speaking, Musk just paid 44 billions for a website. Yes, non-tangible things have made money for a while, but this ridiculous amount just doesn’t fit with the reality of how unimportant to the world that website actually is.

Objectively, before Musk ever got involved, "the website" was worth $30B, determined by all the participants in the market. That's how or how little importance it was, expressed by numbers, not your personal opinion.

I keep reading on MR forum how people have a problem with the cost streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, HBO, etc cost. Granted one can binge, rinse and repeat. I am more interested in how Twitter will handle binge blue checks and you bring up a valid concern of anyone can now be a blue check for payment, I am more curious about the implementation than perceived club membership.

Just a degree? That's a lot of people and not all of them are intelligent so if you're trying to use this as a method of thinking the information is better that's probably not good. Maybe if they have a doctorate degree but even then that only means they know the specific thing they learned. Someone with a doctorate degree in geology wouldn't know anything about economics. Maybe they need a specific color for each topic 🤣

$20/Month to feel important...😂

If people start leaving, and advertisers drop off it'll turn into an echo-chamber. That's why Parler, Truth Social, and others like it aren't thriving. Extremists want to argue, and prove they're right. If everyone agrees, it’s pretty pointless.
People pay more for less unfortunately.

And so begins the inevitable fall of Twitter, soon to be destined to the great social media graveyard alongside MySpace, Bebo and Friends Reunited 😞
Buying it just to slowly kill it would be true gift to humanity.

ME? Oh, I'm well aware of how companies, technology, and the human mind works 😆 But thanks for lumping me in with the masses. Just because you don't know someone's name, that doesn't make them 'no-names'.

And you're right! Nobody should ever consider that checkbox to mean those accounts are real or legit, If only there was some way to prove those folks were real and Verified 🤔 Now go find all those "non tech savvy" folks in your life, and ask them all these same questions. You'll find a much different answer than asking on a Mac Tech Forum 🙄
I understand what you're saying but paid vs free is still a good differentiator. Here's an example.... If every outgoing phone call cost just $0.05, how many fewer spam calls would we receive? I'd venture to guess it would start approaching "none".

What a stupid businessman. Doesn't he realize that a lot of the 230 million or so Twitter users would be more apt to pay $4.99 a month than $19.99 a month? This truly shows how out of touch he is. I mean, does it come with Disney+ or do I get extra online storage? 🤣
yep the richest main the world is a "stupid business man for not doing something your way. This is exactly why Twitter is a cesspool now and has been for few years.

An alternate meaning and symbol for the rainbow now on Twitter verified. 😝

It could show the field of expertise once you hover over it. I do not think that people with a degree are generally smarter, but I hate that we live in a society that makes dumb and annoying people famous. How did the Kardashians become billionaires and get tons of followers, while smart scientists who change the world are mostly unknown?

That also depends on the risk and reward ratio. If I make numerous calls at $0.05 cents and I can scam one out of hundreds the reward is greater than the risk.
