Uh, no actually normal people don’t really care about the blue checkmarks. In fact many revile them.
It depends on how you define, "Normal people." I personally know most of the writers and artists that I followed on Twitter before I left the platform. Then again, most of the people I follow have also left the platform or are in process of doing it.

Good for them! :) I hope they find a platform with enough censorship so that their intellectual superiority mayn’t be challenged

Somebody is lying here on purpose:
Twitter blue started rolling out on June 3rd 2021. This is not new and is not Musk related. But yet click-bait apparently works...
Code:
Does this mean the free version of Twitter is going away?
Free Twitter isn’t going away. Twitter Blue simply offers an opt-in layer of customization for your Twitter experience.

As far as I remember, Tesla doesn't make any profits selling a product--it makes all of its profits based on selling carbon offsets to other companies. Tesla will also soon be competing with car makers that DO know how to make money (here comes Toyota, Honda, MB, VW). Does Star link make money? Does anything Musk runs make money? I don't use Twitter. I used it for about a week many years ago, and didn't see the point. I have no opinion about it, except that now that Musk owns it, I won't go anywhere near it.

What a stupid businessman. Doesn't he realize that a lot of the 230 million or so Twitter users would be more apt to pay $4.99 a month than $19.99 a month? This truly shows how out of touch he is. I mean, does it come with Disney+ or do I get extra online storage? 🤣
The apple community pays $1000 for a phone every year or two ….

Actually right now it makes me angry how Twitter pushes those famous people. If I sign up for a new twitter account, I am forced to follow some famous accounts from a short list of German celebrities or news media. If I don't, I simply can't create the account. Of course I can still unfollow them later, but the simple fact that people have to follow them first results in a huge follower count for them, as many people are not aware that they can unfollow those accounts later. Or they are just too lazy.

For example one of those people is the German comedian "Jan Böhmermann", who is quite a controversial figure. If I open an account and get asked to follow that guy, it already p....s me off very much.

Instagram even suggests you should follow Miley Cyrus or Kim Kardashian. That pretty much disqualifies it as a serious platform. Image it would suggest new users to follow scientists. Suddenly the same system would make those scientists famous.

Imagine going from project to project with a little troll man saying “Do this in a week or I’ll fire you!”

There will be no engineers left soon. That is quite toxic.

And so begins the inevitable fall of Twitter, soon to be destined to the great social media graveyard alongside MySpace, Bebo and Friends Reunited 😞
Without making a decent profit (which they currently don’t) they would eventually fail anyway…he’d rather do this that deal with the constant barrage of advertising boycotts whenever someone’s feeling get hurt and the mob descends.

Ok - so you don’t like Twitter. Emotional reactions aside There’s plenty of room to be bottom. You’ll see because Elon will take Twitter there.
It is a pile of excrement already, I thought that was universally accepted. I am not getting emotional, Stella. Weird reaction or assumption there.

A while ago I created a Twitter account for my dad, so he could follow some accounts about news and sports. He did not have any followers and he never tweeted anything. However one day Twitter suspended that account for "suspicious activity". Their algorithm seems to be very strange. Doing nothing is already suspicious.

The verified users are the ones who drive membership. People come to the platform to read tweets from a famous author or perhaps an artist or politician. Those influencers are already angry at the new ownership. Make them angry enough they walk away and all you will have left is the Trump bots.
As a now former long-time Twitter user, I never bothered to look to see who was verified. I’m just a regular nobody who mainly used Twitter to get up-to-date news, and the occasional laugh. I’m not sure how anyone, other than those looking to drive a narrative, would pay $20 / month for a check-mark.

I’ve supported a Bucha family of four since March 2022 and found Al Jazeera as a good source. Just wanted to offer another alternative.

But it’s not.

No such thing as a good source, everyone has a an agenda / bias and rely on third party information.

That also depends on the risk and reward ratio. If I make numerous calls at $0.05 cents and I can scam one out of hundreds the reward is greater than the risk.
Sure, that will always be the case. However, the risk vs reward equation drastically changes when the risk (cost in this case) is non-zero instead of zero. I didn't say spam calls would be elminated if they were to cost just $0.05 (or pick some other figure) but they sure would be just a small fraction of what we have now.

Social media should be interactive. If someone has so many followers that he can't even read all their replies, it pretty much becomes a one way street. A platform to make powerful people even more powerful by amplifying their views. So I prefer not to follow any famous people but instead accounts that you can really interact with. People with under 100k followers of even under 10k.
