I wouldn’t say that especially if you believe reports that Twitter essentially makes no money. Musk wants to make money so makes sense. I personally hope all social media turns to ash as it’s all toxic crap any way.
I agree with the sentiment but what's the alternative? Meta is pretty evil. TikTok is on the rise but I'm sure eventually they'll be even worse somehow.

$20/Month to feel important...😂

If people start leaving, and advertisers drop off it'll turn into an echo-chamber. That's why Parler, Truth Social, and others like it aren't thriving. Extremists want to argue, and prove they're right. If everyone agrees, its pretty pointless.
Blue check people are not all going to leave as the platform fills some of our human conditioning. Call it Ego, Narcissism, Support or whatever we all have it and need it the important part that is missed is balance just like responsible gambling.

He is the child of diamond mining millionaires, he already came from money so implying he started with basically nothing and turning it into something is a pretty far reach.
What's the name of the mines? Who are the mining millionaires? How much money did he inherit or was seeded from diamond?

Even with x.com it was bought out by a company called Confinity which THEN removed Elon and became PayPal.
Yes, a company he founded got bought out - meaning he converted his labor into capital. That's how you earn money from building something. Your point?

He bought into Tesla, not invented Tesla.
Tesla was incorporated in summer 2003. Musk bought it at the start of 2004.
Musk brought in his CTO in summer 2004. The founders were booted in 2008.

Tesla sold its first car in 2009. Tesla IPO in 2010. Tesla sold its first volume car in 2012.

Today having sold over 2 million cars, how much of that was Musk, and how much were the original founders?

Tesla as well as all of his subsequent businesses receive massive government subsidies,
Tesla received a LOAN from a program initiated by the government. The government also made loans to Ford (10x the size), to Nissan (3x). Tesla fully paid back its loan, with interest, years before Nissan did. Ford still has not paid it back.

so there is a very valid argument that Elon probably hindered space exploration and sciences by taking so much money from the government as well as resources and would be nasa employees instead of everyone paying their share of taxes and one department being funded well enough to do their intended job.
And you would be wrong. Government awards contracts for companies to deliver things it needs done, won by companies who can deliver the best results at the best price. If NASA can send deliver twice the load for half the cost by itself, it would do it. This is how things work.

This applies to all the old rich bros creating their own rockets, but for some reason Elon always gets so much credit for so little that he actually did. And what he took away from government in taxes and subsidies ultimately took away from space exploration, yet he gets all the credit for taking a rocket around the earth playing David Bowie when that’s not even something new.

Did he make two extremely great investment decisions? Yes, absolutely. Is he a great businessman and leader? Not really, there’s still two Tesla vehicles he bragged about years ago that aren’t even close to production still….
Your judgement of realized achievements seems to be clouded by your personal opinion of the guy. Musk is not a great businessman after growing 2 industry disrupting companies, because he didn't deliver on more things beyond that? What a carrotstick

With him posting misinformation and conspiracy theories already, the Twitter app will be off Apple and Google's app stores within 2 weeks so it won't matter.

Very easy to use a prepaid or other non-trackable credit card. This does nothing to stop imposter accounts and in fact makes it easier for them to get verified.
And if you just need the CC to verify, then why $20?? And why is it monthly?

Even I hope they all turn to ash.
But I must say, social media is not wrong, people are toxic, social media just gave them the platform and with that everything gets super amplified and most importantly it ropes in people who were generally neutral into frenzy defenders.

Time for self-reflection and an intervention 😝 By continuing with the status quo you are adding and part of the thing you claim to despise.

I never understood why someone would want a blue check mark that verifies him as the owner of an account. That verification means that Twitter can prove that you own that account, because they have a copy of your ID, passport or driver's license. So you are legally responsible for all of your content, while people with an unverified account can always say "That is not really me!". I am not just talking about serious crimes, but also simple copyright violations. Posting a photo for example without approval of the copyright holder can get you into serious legal trouble.

And even if you do not post anything controversial, you might not want all your tweets to be connected to your real life person. If I apply for a new job, I do not want my potential employer to read all my tweets. That could cause a kind of self censorship in your head. Should you really tweet that you like good red wine or may people think that you are an alcoholic?

The blue checkmark people are also very often the ones that I am not interested in anyway. So I would love to have an option to block all people with a blue checkmark at once.

It’s comments like yours that make me think we are doomed. You think everyone is an a$$ and you imagine that those who aren’t actually are. So you probably behave the same way.

The reality is that most people are nice and you are making it hard for the rest of us.
I worked at a bar/restaurant for 10 years and one thing my boss/the owner said that sticks with me decades later is when he told me he doesn't care if the employees hate him. He's there to make money, not be everyone's friend. He told me if everyone thinks he's an *******, and he's making money, he must be doing something right.

Now, I don't agree with this! Just saying, *******s seem to always be in charge.

Lol people who say this I know aren’t passionate about sports.

Name another utility that can be utilized as quickly and efficiently as twitter to share sports news, injuries, updates? I never even open the app just get tweet notifications from my sporting reporters and MacRumors.

How is that ALL toxic?

This is a good idea. For some reason having a check mark is seen as important there, and there are way too many people who have one for some unknown reason. Those people are treated as more credible by some due to having one. Now it’ll just show you like to pay a subscription fee.
I agree. $240 is nothing to a celebrity or company, the people who have first class in every flight or their own jet don't care. I think it's silly how many nobodies have verification, and try wearing it as a status thing. Its purpose is to help weed out scams etc "I'm MrBe3st buy my Be3stCoin"

Yes what does the blue mark get you other than verified? And show that you have $240/yr to spend on that. Even the middle Apple One is close to that price, and you actually get something useful for that

Well the problem becomes anyone with $20 a month can become a blue check now. Before you had to be someone of stature. I don't know if blue checks want to be mixed in with normies

Because if you’re not - at least to a point - people around you and those working for you will start eating you alive. Seen it with my own eyes multiple times.
Right and some guys try to fake it and act like they are nice. But they didn't get to the top or stay at the top being nice. It is just a facade.
