Plus, as with Reddit, the only thing that made Twitter tolerable was third party client apps like Tweetbot. I suspect “killing third party APIs” is on Space Karen’s product roadmap as well.

It is mindblowing how stupid this man is.
The worst person on planet Earth has become tech support for the absolute worst people on Twitter.
He ruined the trending tab. It is now a completely useless old irrelevant way to find out what’s actually happening.
The timeline is an absolute disaster.
All Twitter has left is turning on notifications for a few people.
Any day now he’ll ruin that.
So do what I did and delete the app and read more books instead of going on Twitter.

An algorithm deciding what you see means totally losing control over what you read. This is also an obvious step necessary to make sure "Twitter Blue" users' tweets get priority. Twitter goes to the dogs part 9785.

The update also broke how pictures are displayed in the timeline, they're all cropped to landscape aspect now, which makes it worthless for me (I use Twitter only for following artists, otherwise I want nothing to do with it).

Thankfully one can just use the browser and get the proper UI... for now.

In a change that is sure to draw the ire of some users, Twitter has removed the sparkle-shaped icon from the top-right of the app's interface that let users switch between "For You" and "Latest" and replaced it with two tabs called "For You" and "Following."
I don't use Twitter and this move already draws my ire. These algorithm, catering to user interests, will start a vicious cycle that leads users into an echo chamber. This is how Flat Earthers, Anti-Vaxxers and other nutjobs gained such a large voice.

This is also the reason FaceBook sucks. MySpace never lead users around, never tempted them into echo chambers.

Not a programmer here, but how hard would it be for Musk to shutdown the Tweetbots and Twitterrifics of the world? I was a long time Twitterrific user and never used the Twitter app itself. I no longer have a Twitter account.

Just tried it now. Wow. It's filled of pure non-sense I do not want to see.
Random tweets order, plus those "topic" tweets of people that you searched in the past or randomly happened to open their profile once...
I'm not an avid user, I just use it as a chronological feed of academic research from people and journals...
Guess at this point I'm switching app, given my basic use of APIs.

I’ve always wondered if internal Twitter folks had a way to know when folks viewed “Twitter” on 3rd party apps. I’ve asked Paul from TapBots if he had any insight in that and he replied he didn’t know. I’m curious if all of our “views” on Tweetbot or Twitteriffic don’t actually register to Twitter itself. Unless you liked a post or retweeted or whatever.

Users made it clear they didn't want this. Elon didn't care. So he's trollling his users. So cute.
Musk is an ass, but the surprising thing about this is that Twitter on iOS held out this long.

Lol… Elon on May 15 last year, we’ll before the Twitter deal closed:

Surely Elon’s Twitter algorithm is politically neutral and balanced.

The worst decision. The whole point of following people is to see the things of people YOU decided to follow. Idiots but what am I complaining, first I started to use Tweetbot (which does not have all this nonsense anyway) before closing my account recently all together.

The worst decision will actually be when nepo baby Musk changes the logo to pepe frog.

At least give us the ability of opening in a preferred tab. Now I have to switch to following. Geez!
Apple doesn’t even let you do this, Safari changes the sidebar back to the default, Books drops back to Reading Now, and Music goes back to Library.

whats the point of following people when in the end you only see what twitter wants you to see?

same for ig as well
It's the same kind of change that started Facebook's downfall too. All I ever wanted was just a chronological list of posts by people I give a **** about. That's it. I'm sick of all this curated algorithm driven ********.
