The iPhone5 is going to carry-on the iPhone4 design. There are already tons of accessories like cases using the iPhone4 design. Why risking another re-design after the antenna-gate fiasco? The focus right now is iOS5 and iCloud. The delays are probably simply due to the A5 (heat, battery-life, clock-speed tuning, etc). Putting it on the huge iPad2 with large battery is easy, but it's challenging to put it inside a phone. Heck, Apple even had to down-clock the A4 on the iPhone 4. People can argue it's not a "revolutionary" jump, but the A5 imo is already a leap from the A4, with dual-core and a much better GPU.

The larger screen device is the next iPod Touch. Apple has been pushing the iPod Touch as a portable gaming device. Increasing its screen size makes sense as there is more screen space for touch controls. And it's an iPod, so the marketing tagline is it will be the best iPod ever to watch your movies on. Add on a 3G version, plus iCloud, it just clicks.

Couldn't some of these designs simply be a new iPod Touch? Even with an ear speaker? Apple could be pushing the touch closer to being a replacement for a phone.

I am spending way more time on Macrumours than is healthy for me. But I've noticed that tends to happen to me right before I decide I want to buy an upcoming product. Before the 2011 MacBook Pro refresh, I was spending alot of time in the MacBook Pro forums speculating with people. Then before the iPad 2 release, I started spending alot of time in the iPad forum. Then my iPad arrived and I started slowing down with my posts. Then I started looking forward to the iPhone 5 as my next purchase. Since June I am pretty much constantly in the iPhone forum section...waiting...speculating...being driven insane...just like everyone else.

Gah, if it is going to be teardrop shaped please please please let the shape not last two generations like the 3G's shape...

I don't want an uneven phone!!!! (I am not planning on upgrading until next year when my contract runs out).

Not honestly enthused about the bigger screen either tbh (But I want the better specs and camera). I suppose I'd deal with that for the better camera and especially if it had better specs (better processor/RAM/more storage space). But the shape... GAH!!!!!!

Why would you design a phone that is supposed to be used as landscape as well in a way that it is thinner on one side?!!!!! That's going to suck for people who like to game with it if nothing else (which is the whole reason I'd want the better specs! You don't need them to do your basic stuff).

Well, at least I'm not planning on getting this year's phone so maybe their is hope that they'll change their mind on at least the uneven shape by the time my upgrade is up.

If I end up liking what the iPhone 5 brings to the table, then it looks like I'm gonna be waiting for my iPhone to get to me like I had to wait a month for my iPad 2 to get to me. *Sigh* I wonder if my carrier will give me a temporary phone if they need to order my iPhone for not being in stock. Anyone know anything about that?

Who cares about a new iPhone - Apple needs to sort out the Lion bugs, Lion Keynote and Final Cut Pro x

Why come into a rumor post specifically about the iPhone when there are 100 other appropriate posts and forums for you to complain about Lion in?

To be clear, the iPhone 5 announcement may still be "weeks away", but availability and stock of the iPhone 5 may be limited to start, if you believe this rumor.

More importantly, I think this is the first rumor that says "look, there will be both models"

was for sure that they would not produce a failure-iphone (connection-problems) twice in a row. so back to the roots, using the 2-3 year old design, with some improvements on cpu, camera, and increasing screen size.

thats not rocket science, but i guess not all people recognize that.

Me too, Agent-P... I see you around in a lot of the threads I post in! This makes me crazy, and takes a lot of my time. What do we need, iPhone rehab or MacRumors rehab? *sigh* I was still addicted to MacRumors before I went iPhone 5 crazy

Well, I posted a rant moaning at how a 15 month wait for an iphone 4s rather than a fully redesigned 5 is a disgrace. So, I have renewed hope that after all this time they've got it right with the fifth incarnation. ipad 2 is a design classic, a phone that looks similar to that with the specs that I think are coming will also be a classic and will finally have everything I need, rather than being all style and no content or practicality...Who know?..This model might even be good for making calls?!!!!...

I think two models have been on the cards for awhile.
And that apple have been trying to keep mum on the topic.

If the iPhone5 is the teardrop form, I would not mind waiting for stock to catch up a little. I hope they will offer preorders.

I want a bigger screen as I tend to watch alot of movies on my phone.

Can't wait XD

If we get a bigger screen, does that mean, apple will introduce more pixels into it ? or is it going to be the same number of pixels, but bigger screen, thereby degrading the quality ?

The bottom line has not changed. This is all orchestrated via Apple. They are the masters at pushing people's buttons.

I'm likely ordering the 5 at the end of november

think i would get it before christmas here in the UK? HMMM

I had an iphone 4 and got bored of waiting for 5th so purchased a Samsung Galaxy Sii; impressive phone but i really miss my iphone

almost tempted to purchase a white iphone 4 whilst i wait for the 5th come out (yes i know it probably only 5ish wks); then sell both the samsung and the Iphone4 to part fund the 5th purchase.

Am i mad?

Iphone 4 16 gig £505; which i can sell for £265 ish along with Samsung Glaxay Sii £185 when the iphone 5 comes out (i have already money for the Iphone 5 handset set aside).

iF iPhone 5..

..is going to look like that photo then it has inherited the lessons learnt from
iPad 2.
iPhone 5 will have iPad look and feel to it...
Internal consolidation and gorilla glass... and that solid feel.

But I still don't really like that tapered look
