Can someone explain to us why it's referred to as teardrop shaped if in fact it is wedge shaped?

Yes, it's a wedge with rounded corners, but I don't recall seeing any mockups that show it to curve along its length.

I hope everyone realizes that there is nothing 'revolutionary' or 'innovative' about this teardrop design. Most Motorola phones (Droid X, X2 for example) have had a 'teardrop' design going on over a year now.

If Apple can sue Samsung over the Galaxy Tab over design issues, Moto and Google must be salivating that this rumor is true so litigation can begin.

I am not jumping ship at all. Most people are saying they are going to Samsung out of anger. I am still patiently waiting for the new iPhone. Honestly, MacRumors is almost not even worth my time to visit the site now. I think they just post stories to get traffic. Its like they post the same story, but change a few words.

We get it.

Yeah, this story and the "iPhone 5 announcement in a few weeks now!" story seriously aren't worth front page coverage. Really, did we need yet 2 more stories about the iPhone 5 that have nothing new to offer ?

Did we really need 2 stories for the case-mate case leak and the screen protector ? That could have easily been 1.

Of course, each time I dare mention these points, I get down-modded. This site has really gone down in quality for front page stories since Page 2 went away.

Bigger display + real notifications in iOS 5 and I may actually drop my android phone and buy one. Well if it comes to sprint, anyway.

I love the rumors. It's like pining for spring in the dead of winter. My phone has been running like poop all summer but I've been holding out for the new iPhone (5/4s, whatever, call it the 69 it doesn't matter to me). I don't really care about most of the features (they're all upgrade over my crackberry) other than my Verizon iPhone working in Europe.

The rumors are a great way to keep entertained while waiting. Look at it like the monitors that are posted while you're waiting in the insanely long line at an amusement park. ;)

I'm excited about this on a few fronts: as a consumer, I'm dying for a new phone; as a :apple: fan, I want to see something awesome come out; and as an :apple: shareholder, I really want a frenzy over the release. :D The longer the lines the better. :p

I'll take a VZW iPhone5 with 64gb (or 32gb, if 64gb doesn't happen this time), please and thank you.

Seriously, tone down the gospel.

Second, while it may be "amazing" to you, it's not in the industry. That's my point. Other phones are doing 4", 8MP cameras with the Sony optics and smartphone OSes (and no, iOS is not superior to Android, that's completely subjective, both do the same tasks as efficiently, both have their strengths and weaknesses).

From what we've heard, there's really no reason for manufacturing hold backs here. While I'm sure the iPhone 5 will be a cool phone, we've heard nothing that makes it special or a cut above the rest for now. A new form factor/case doesn't change that. Either there's something very special we haven't heard about or there is no production delay, just your usual Apple "we want to sell out and create the appearence of demand by limiting initial supplies". It's not like they don't do that every time.

Anyway, this is replacing my 3GS for sure, no matter what it is. I'd take an iPhone 4 case with beefed up internals if that is what they are going to sell. I'm too invested in the iOS eco-system to switch now unfortunately.

It's not gospel, it's the truth. Apple had 29% of the market share last year. Android had 39% but when you figure in that it's 1 iphone against a gazillion android phones, you will see the iphone is miles ahead of any android phone. Also, remember that the iphone is not available on many carriers. When it does, you will see!. To people who are tech savy, like us, might compare ios and android but to the general public, ios is superior to android as it's very easy to use and there is no learning curve. Also, when an iphone rumor comes out, it's worldwide news. Whether you agree or not, there is something special about the iphone that makes people go nuts over it. I have not found 1 android phone that has 1% of the attention the iphone has. The bottom line is we both are getting the new iphone so it's all good :)

Larger screen + thinner battery is not a good combination, I'm guessing by the iPhone 7 you'll be able to snap it clean in half if you mistakenly leaned against a railing with it in hour pocket.

It's not gospel, it's the truth.

It's your subjective opinion. Please state it as such and not as an objective fact, otherwise it looks like you're preaching some kind of gospel and it's annoying to people who aren't as "into" Apple as you might be. And it's 2 models of iPhone, not 1. And if there was 20 iPhone models, I'd doubt the numbers would be much different. People buy the iPhone despite it being 1 model. With Android there's choice and competition and thus people are more free to get what they want in a handset.

Apple introducing more iPhone models would canabilize and diversify the iPhone landscape, they wouldn't suddenly take over the world and have 99% market share.

The artist rendition will look nothing like the real iPhone 5.

The lack of symmetry between the top and the bottom of the screen looks terrible. Those bands need to be the same vertical height.

Sounds like the iPhone 4 leak all over again.

"Ugly and boxy, Apple would never do that!"
"There's gaps on the side, and they're asymetrical, looks terrible".

Oh look, it was the real deal...

"Awesome, best iPhone yet, kinda like a monolith from 2001"
"The antena on the side is awesome, makes it look real industrial like".

I know. We pretty much already know it will be announced in a FEW WEEKS! That was the most pointless story to ever post. I hear you about being down-modded. Some people just like the pointless stories. I hate them. It will be funny when the new iPhone does come out. The site traffic will slow down temendously.

The larger screen device is the next iPod Touch. Apple has been pushing the iPod Touch as a portable gaming device. Increasing its screen size makes sense as there is more screen space for touch controls. And it's an iPod, so the marketing tagline is it will be the best iPod ever to watch your movies on. Add on a 3G version, plus iCloud, it just clicks.
I don't think that makes any sense to sell an iPod which is better than the iPhone.

Apple needs to get it together.

Iphone 4 barely held its market share in europe around 20% last year while android almost quadrupled sales. DOnt think its much different in the USA or the rest of the world.

And now perhaps even more delays or certainly no view of when the new iphone(s) will be there.

Ok, I'm sick of this. I'm buying Samsung Galaxy SII. Bye

That'll teach Apple to stop screwing with you. You fix those meanies - drive them into Chapter 7.

No! No! No! No! This cannot be happening!!!!!! My obsession over this phone is not healthy! Apple for the sake of my sanity and many others, announce it please!!! I beg of you!!! Stop doing this to us!

OK - take a deep breath, let it out slowly. Try to think about something pleasant - a day at the beach, for instance. Go for a walk. A handful of 'ludes might help. You'll be OK. We're all here for you. :D ;)

You are in the minority here. It is my opinion but it's based on the truth. Just look at the numbers of iphones sold. In 2010 alone, 50 million iphones were sold. In 2011, 86 million iphones will be sold!!!. Let the numbers do the talking. With you or without you, apple will sell gazillions of the new iphone so by saying the iphone is a super phone, it's more than just an opinion. It's based on numbers!. Name any android phone that comes close to selling as much as the iphone?!!!. There is none so it seems many people look at like I do. You can't argue numbers. Now I do agree that competition is always good. If it wasn't for android, apple might get lazy so I'm glad android is around to put pressure on apple to keep improving. I honestly believe if given the choice, people will pick ios over android 10 to 1.

Yeah i am pretty sure thEy said this aboUt ipad 2 also. Then there were a ton of them available. Sure demand exceeded supply but that is just the norm with these things. I am sure there will be plenty and people will be lining up as usual

The bottom line has not changed. This is all orchestrated via Apple. They are the masters at pushing people's buttons.

Or stroking people's capacitive touch strips if some of the rumours round here are to be believed ;)

If this rumor has any validity, it will kinda suck. Not too long ago when ipad2 was release, how long was it until stock was at a sustainable level, months I believe.

Maybe Apple can't build the future tech of their design teams on schedule because it's too difficult to do from a manufacturing standpoint. Either way, again if this is true; many pause at those lines- and say f it.

I won't wait in another. Online is a different story though.
One last thing, I hope it's not too light in weight, I like the feel of quality and heft of the current gen.

OMG!!!!! If Apple doesn't release the new iPhone today then I am converting to....

The problem is this market is developer driven . It isnt phones competing but platforms, if apple start loosing market sahre and developer turn more to android it can get into a downward spiral .

If there are news articles regarding shortages, I will be forced to take a day off work to be one of the first to pre-order!

Yes, I'm one of those guys!

I definitely agree with you there. It's more about the software but as of right now, ios is much more polished and user friendly than android and that's why the iphone sells the way it does. Now if it changes in the future , that's a different story.

F-this. I'm getting in line now...

I don't believe that Android's sales are driven by people looking at its features, its openness and making a choice... They're available on EVERY carrier at EVERY price point starting at free... Not to mention that there are many many many many models...

When the average person buys an Android phone they're thinking "Its like an iPhone but..." Fill in the end... Its cheaper, its on Sprint, its on sale with a buy one get one...

I'm not saying that Android is a bad OS... Its actually good... But educated consumer choice isn't the driving factor that is giving it its sales numbers. Its price, availability and market saturation.
