yeah i know...i was young and foolish blinded by the OLED brightness

i may get white iphone...i think it will cost me £55

Iphone 4 16 gig £505; which i can sell for £265 ish along with Samsung Glaxay Sii £185 when the iphone 5 comes out (i have already money for the Iphone 5 handset set aside).

I would of thought with IOS 5 people with iphone 4's would be more tempted to stay even if the 5 isn't a huge upgrade.

I will be sticking with the 4 til xmas time when i will buy the 5....a month or two won't be a problem really. People are in too big a rush to change these days.

i find it extremely unlikely that apple will introduce a new screen-size:

1) the screen would either be no true retina anymore or they would have to introduce weird resolution-enlargement - this wouldd either be a major drawback for advertising or for developers.

2) 3,5" screen on a phone is just about the right size - anybody wanting a bigger screen is on the road to a 7" tablet tucked to his/her head :)

just my two cents

its like 99% confirmed the screen will be larger. there is no point in arguing that it won't.

your arguments are clearly outdated.

Teardrop or wedge?

Can someone explain to us why it's referred to as teardrop shaped if in fact it is wedge shaped?

Yes, it's a wedge with rounded corners, but I don't recall seeing any mockups that show it to curve along its length.

Two new phone models, you mean like each year for the last 2 ? You don't say. We've known for a while that there would still be an iPhone 4, just like there's still a 3GS for sale right now and there was a 3G for sale back in June 2010. This isn't a surprise.

And with the timeframe in which they are shipping this year, it's unusual but not surprising they would "upgrade" this lower end model.

As for the 5 production delays, I wonder what kind of goodies are in there to warrant such a thing if it's true. It's not like we have heard rumors of some spectacular features, everything we've heard is quite common in other phones by now (4"+ screen, 8 MP camera from Sony, black and white models...).

Retina is a made up term so there is no clear definition of what True would be. It only means that you can not see the Pixels from a certain distance. How would it be a drawback for Advertising ? The pixels would still represent the same amount of space as the iPhone 4 and not require anything different, so how is it bad for developers?

2) 3,5" screen on a phone is just about the right size For you maybe,..so keep your iPhone 4 most everyone else wants a bigger screen - anybody wanting a bigger screen is on the road to a 7" tablet tucked to his/her head :) That's the most ignorant argument I have ever heard ! ....going from 3.5 to 3.7 is comparable to 7inches ?

just my two cents

Just your two cents huh ?!

Keep it.

Delayed or shortages, which is it?!?

Both
Hehe
XD

Also, sales are guaranteed to double since we are near the holiday shopping season. I'm pretty sure it's Apple desire to refresh around this period whether they are replacing the iPod with iPhones or not.

Unless their contract is up, I don't know anyone that replaces their phone around the holidays.

If the new iphone 5 comes with a bigger screen, will you get it or would you rather stick to the one you have?.

2 model thing is really good news! I like it, let more people have the iPhone, so we can use all the features to the fullest... I hate being a snob for having iPhone where I am from, while everyone should just have all this features to live a geek life we all deserve.. lol

So, from what I am gathering from the comments, will the new designed iPhone 5 be out in 2011 or 2012?

It's not the fact that it has 4" screen, 8 mp camera that makes it amazing. It's combining all of that with ios is what makes it special. I have used android phones before and the experience is not even close as smooth as with the iphone. We are talking like android and ios are equals..they are not. ios is superior to android hence the popularity of the iphone. This is why people keep buying the iphone with a 3.5 screen inch screen over all the 4 inch plus androids out there. It's much deeper than specs, it's the whole experience and ease of use so if the new one has a 4 inch screen, 8mp and ios, i'm in heaven!.

Seriously, tone down the gospel.

Second, while it may be "amazing" to you, it's not in the industry. That's my point. Other phones are doing 4", 8MP cameras with the Sony optics and smartphone OSes (and no, iOS is not superior to Android, that's completely subjective, both do the same tasks as efficiently, both have their strengths and weaknesses).

From what we've heard, there's really no reason for manufacturing hold backs here. While I'm sure the iPhone 5 will be a cool phone, we've heard nothing that makes it special or a cut above the rest for now. A new form factor/case doesn't change that. Either there's something very special we haven't heard about or there is no production delay, just your usual Apple "we want to sell out and create the appearence of demand by limiting initial supplies". It's not like they don't do that every time.

Anyway, this is replacing my 3GS for sure, no matter what it is. I'd take an iPhone 4 case with beefed up internals if that is what they are going to sell. I'm too invested in the iOS eco-system to switch now unfortunately.

If its the new tear drop and bigger screen , I'll buy it if its iPhone 4 on steroids, they can keep it. I'm still using my 3G. The screen is messed up and the battery life is shorter, if it were not for the unlimited data on the acct I'd get something else, thing is as soon as you have the latest and greatest, in a month its old again.

Edit: Acidentially hit "post reply" before I was finished. Acutal post is below.

Stupid thumb!

I am not jumping ship at all. Most people are saying they are going to Samsung out of anger. I am still patiently waiting for the new iPhone. Honestly, MacRumors is almost not even worth my time to visit the site now. I think they just post stories to get traffic. Its like they post the same story, but change a few words.

We get it.

If Apple is releasing two phones, one of which is iPhone 4S with A5 and 8MP.
I wonder what's gonna happen to iPhone 4 since it's selling so good even now. Remember, Apple always tackle budget conscious users with iPod Touch. Launching one costly and one budget phone will definitely affect iPod Touch market. I doubt they would release two phones. But I really hope they put out the iPhone with a larger screen. Now, 3.5 inch is nowhere near the competition.

Gah, if it is going to be teardrop shaped please please please let the shape not last two generations like the 3G's shape...

I don't want an uneven phone!!!! (I am not planning on upgrading until next year when my contract runs out).

Not honestly enthused about the bigger screen either tbh (But I want the better specs and camera). I suppose I'd deal with that for the better camera and especially if it had better specs (better processor/RAM/more storage space). But the shape... GAH!!!!!!

Why would you design a phone that is supposed to be used as landscape as well in a way that it is thinner on one side?!!!!! That's going to suck for people who like to game with it if nothing else (which is the whole reason I'd want the better specs! You don't need them to do your basic stuff).

Well, at least I'm not planning on getting this year's phone so maybe their is hope that they'll change their mind on at least the uneven shape by the time my upgrade is up.

I wouldnt worry about that one bit...the "teardrop" that is.

I'm certain that if the iPhone 5 happens to have a "tapered" design, it will NOT affect the user experience AT ALL. Especially in landscape mode. I'm sure exactly what u r saying was discussed, researched and designed very carefully. And making sure it didn't feel weird or unbalanced when held in landscape was one of (if not #1) main issues apple dealt with. My iPhone 4 is in landscape more then not. And apple is fully aware of that the future of portable gaming systems is the smart phone. PSP, DS, etc. Are all going to disappear, eventually. With that in mind, I bet the iPhone 5 feels perfect when held in landscape. Plus, the taper looks to be so slight that u might not even notice. Whatever the case (no pun intended), I'm sure it'll feel wonderful.
