I'm happy with my 60GB and 15GB of free space left. No innovation here...move along everyone. Move along.
Just because it is not good for you doesn't mean it isn't for somebody else.

Some may want an iPod with 80GB because 60GB is well...too small! :)

Also, if their guess is correct, the new 80GB version will be smaller than your 60GB version. Which for some folks, will be a wonderfull improvement. A higher capacity iPod that is smaller. Why not?!

Exactly why I want an 80gigger! At the start of the year my music collection was 17GB. Its now 40GB, in part to the fact that I've finally put everything I own on iTunes but also because I'm buying more music (most through iTunes) and I've discovered audiobooks and podcasts. My audiobooks take up 6GB alone and they'll be ever expanding. True, I don't need them on an iPod all the time, but until it gets to the point where I have no choice but to not sync them anymore, I'll like that option. Oh, and the photo's I have take up space too...

80GB will give my collection the room it needs to breathe. And in a smaller form factor? Yes please! If it can play video too its a nice option, but not a deal maker/breaker for me. Credit Card is at the ready for tomorrow!

I'm so exited about this event that I've refreshed MacRumors too many times ;). As long as Steve releases new PowerBooks (today, it is tuesday after all, or tomorrow I don't care)...this will be very interesting. Does anybody know if Apple will put up a QuickTime webcast after the event?

I've written a short rumor roundup on my site, feel free to dissect it ;).

iTMS not updated yet

It's always updated on Tuesday mornings by this time. hmmmmmmm.... ;)

iTMS

Someone beat me to mentioning that the iTMS is not showing new releases yet. History tells us that there will be an iTunes update coinciding with this event. History also tells us that means new features. History is fun.

A 20 gig jump in capcity is no reason to put the store on hold. I am gettin' AMPed.

I overheard some people in Dixons talking about the new iPod on their stock list. They said that it would come in white, black and chrome. But apparently one of the biggest features is the introduction of a crossfade on your playlists.

AAPL down .93¢ on average volume?

Any armchair analysts out there?
I'm curious why traders sold off 24hrs before an earnings announcement that that almost every media story is anticipating as great?
Plus Apple is going into the Christmas quarter which may be the most profitable of all time.
Why sell now? Why not wait 24hrs and catch some upside?
Are there that many cynics betting against the success of the company?
Curious in Canada.

a workmate sat opposite me, who doesn't care for technology, nevermind apple, has just said that she heard, on the news recently, that the NEW ipods would be coming in white black and SILVER.

I follow macrumors etc. almost religiously and this is the first that i have heard of this!...... then literally 2 mins later i see the above post!

Have i missed something here ??

I think the market as a whole went down 2-4% in the past 5 days while Apple went down 8%. I don't see that as a big deal -yet

Come on Apple, I want a tablet! Give me a tablet! I will pay lots of money for an Apple freaking tablet!

I'm trying to reconcile apparently conflicting rumors.

Could the large-screen video iPod that podfuture, the media, and just about everyone else is talking about actually be a small form-factor tablet mac, much like the rumored "headless imac" in January became the mac mini? This might reconcile the conflicts between TS and AI rumors over the past week. This addresses the tablet patent and the Apple ad seeking to hire handwriting engineers. This product, by itself, would justify a "one more thing" event. Perhaps it replaces the iBook line as the current laptop lines merge since they're so close together in performance and features now anyway.

This would leave the 5th generation iPod as the larger capacity, smaller size, white/black/chrome non-video model that's also been discussed.

Also, speed bumps to PB and PM.

Just a thought.

Apple is Black and White if...

They think that I am willing to pay any more for some stupid G bump and a new color. Better have video, and better have bluetooth. Otherwise its a waste of money for those who already have one. My 15G Gen 2 is still working fine for me. I'm sure Apple wont let us down on the ipod. New colors and more gigs... who cares?

Significant?

I placed an order for an 12' iBook and a 60GB iPod last friday, the 7th of October.
Both items are custom made (larger HD and engraving)
When I checked the orderstatus last five minutes ago, the status was still at processing stage. If my memory serves me right, the orderstatus went from processing to sent to manufacturing within 24 hours when I ordered my PM (custom made too) last year.

It seem a bit strange that Apple is still processing an order after 5 days although this includes a weekend.

Purely speculative, but it might be of some significance...

Sorry to sound repetitive but what about a tablet mac? They filed for a patent on the design of one about 6 months ago. This would definitely be something that they'd hold a press conference over while measly mac speed bumps or an ipod in different colors probably isn't.

Do you think Apple is likely to release an entirely new product before the introduction of x86?
Wouldn't that be a big waste of both money and time considering that they would have to redesign the contraption at the time of PPC -> x86 transition?
Just a thought... My guess is just as good as yours

Apologies if i am being a bit slow here but didn't some one post the link to the webcast yesterday, it may have been the other thread !?

...........o and i had a dream about the dual dual g5 last night, either it was a premination or i'm getting far to into all this rumor stuff :) !

Jeez, I had a dream about it too. I dreamt that the new iPod was like a square chain link and you could connect several of them together for some reason. Of course, I'm waiting on this event to get a new Powermac and I dreamt that they released a dual 2.7GHz G5 and a dual dual-core 2.4 GHz G5 and I couldn't decide which was better. They also ditched the "cheese-grater" tower for a very cheap looking white plastic "pizza-box" desktop! Crossing my fingers that I'm not clairvoyant...

A good point, but I'd guess that it's been in the works for some time and they wouldn't want to waste all the pre-Intel work that had been done. Besides--an entirely new ppc product might not get switched until 2007.

How much redesign work would really have to be done on the hardware to make the switch? I'm not being a smart-aleck. I simply don't know.

It is perfectly reasonable to assume that they wouldn't even bother doing it until the intel macs but I think most of the problems associated with the transition (new motherboard, processor, etc) would probably be independent of problems associated with a tablet (stylus doesn't work, screen not sensitive enough, screen latch breaks too easily). Transition problems for a tablet would almost be the same as with a powerbook because most of the parts are the same. You could definitely be right though.

Basically what I'm saying is that debuting the tablet now could be a way of reducing the amount of things that go wrong since they ppc platform has all it's kinks worked out.

Assuming that Apple, just as the case with the Nano, put down considerable time minimizing the volume, it would be rather expensive to redesign a tablet from PPC -> x86.
Moreover, my guess is that a tablet wouldn't fall into the prosumer category. Assuming that is correct, there could be a tablet for sale by mid 2006 if we are to believe the transition plan.

I'm becoming less optimistic about an updated 12-inch Powerbook. Its shipping times are simply not changing. Looks like only the 15 & 17 will be updated. :(

Music store not updated

It's VERY strange that the music store hasn't gotten an update yet. Clearly something is on the way. The last tiime this happened, Madonna's catalog was added after the announcement (on a Wednesday).

Notably, I was reading on a U2 new site that the band is expected shortly to start selling ALL its shows on ITMS. That rumor started floating when the digital box set was announced, but it seems a lot more likely with the current tour as the band is changing up the setlist fairly regularly. They also have a live DVD coming out in a month.

Does anyone know if this is a "music" announcement or an "Apple Event"? If the music industry was invited, that might give us a little better idea as to what market Apple's announcing for tomorrow.

Having just bought an iPod, I'd love to see some of the next-gen features make it into the iPod photos. It seems to me like all these color-screened iPods would be capable of handling much the same OS software, although movies are questionable.

I would LOVE to see a "visualizer" on the ipod however, especially if it could be output to video like a slideshow.

Again, just as usual I am just guessing here.
But what says that the size of the PPC motherboard would be identical to the x86? Could be an expensive gamble... It is a lot of money to put into research, just to do it again one year later.
I personally don't think Apple will introduce any new products based on PPC.
Still, Steve's RDF might kick in...
