Seems like M2 Max leaks are picking up. I wonder if we will get a January event to launch the new MacBook Pros and preview the VR headset and Mac Pro. Sure would be an epic start to the new year. Although the more likely scenario is a March event.

When the M1 Max 16 inch MBP was released over 1 year ago I started saving for the M2 version. Keep in mind I did not go to the Apple Store to try out the form factor since I use the 2019 version (i9); I just went by the smart people here and tech crowd reviews and predictions for this upcoming model.
Last month, when it was confirmed that the 2022 season was full, I took a hard look at my use case and decided to go with a CTO M1 Max. After a year of saving was nearly able to pay with only a portion on credit. The trip I made to the Apple Store to buy the gift cards I used to later that day make the purchase was really the entertaining part.
Picking up the machine about three weeks ago now, upgrading to macOS 13 and moving data over was not as simple as it sounds. Deleting then programs not working well with M1 and Rosetta 2 gave way to the realization that the i9 machine will still be with me for years to come. Intel Macs still have a lot of compute years ahead. My advice is to not give up yours when moving to M type platform.
I hope Apple comes out with the M2 or M3 in 2023. I plan to stick with M1 for a few years, to then move onward with M4. By then the TSMC foundry in Arizona will be online for about 1-2 years (? 2025-6) and should have 3 mm or smaller process running well. Where we are in the world with supply chain woes, COVID lockdowns in China, and post-pandemic fears of war and strife gives some foresight as to how Apple forecasts running new products and tech releases. Paying close attention to the non-releases for 2022 confirms my decision to purchase now.
I realize the cost of these new machines likely will have a domestic upcharge for production in the US. TSMC already has Apple over a barrel on the price per unit for 3 nm. Beginning to save again now is recommended.

Expansion slots for what? Everything these days is on a single chip or soldered to the motherboard. It would be a miracle at this point if the new Mac Pro was anything like the old one.
They’re very much needed on the high end. Apple realized the 2013 Mac Pro was a failure, and back tracked on a lot of things, chief among them were the slots.

While it's niche the slots are important in high end production for TV shows. Neil Parfitt on Youtube has a good series about setting up the 2019 rack mount Mac Pro because much of his music hardware requires PCI to interface with the Mac.

Though I suspect the 2019 Mac Pro was mostly about satisfying their own production teams making Apple TV+ shows.

Lots more to add still!

Could be neat if they did something like Ford almost did with their SUV lineup.

Es-cape (2 syllables) small-ish SUV
Ed-ge (1 or 2 syllables) medium-ish SUV
Ex-plor-er (3 syllables) large SUV
Ex-pe-di-tion (4 syllables) totally not a bus.

Don't know what this would look like for the M series chips but I don't blame anyone who mixes up Pro, Max, or Ultra.

Why can't Apple Silicon be better-than-servicable, or possibly be even good at gaming?

Couldn't all those Neural Engine processors be tuned for something Apple could call Metal Super Sampling or Apple Super Sampling? Couldn't Apple customize future silicon to manage/crunch Ray Tracing? Beyond games, seems like there could be multiple use cases...

Could be power limits to running the GPU, CPU, and Neural at the same time or maybe their implementation of neural isn’t suited for real time.

If not they may be looking at using neural for something else in games like better AI routines/actions, dynamic worlds, and so on.

The transition to 3nm is all over the place.
I strongly suspect the M2Pro/Max will be 5nm (if it wasn't confirmed allready), and who knows what the M2 Ultra wil be.
The M1 Ultra, as powerful as it is, still isn't powerful enough for my needs.
Something 50% more powerful would be the perfect spot.
Would love to sell my M1 Ultra in late 2023 for an M2 Ultra (if it'll be 3nm)

Mac Mini w/ 4 Monitor support!

Shouldn't have to buy a Studio just for that.
You just gave me an idea. What if they redesign the Mac mini to be more of a slimmed down Studio, and that could be the Mac14 identifier, with the next Studio getting the Mac15?

I just figure I could figure out why they started at 13 with the Studio. That number doesn’t pick up from any previous Mac’s. The 2 only things I can think of:

1) Some arbitrary counting of the original Macintoshes (they were not 12 compact Mac, so they would have to group some other things and there)

2) if they found the original 2 G4 minis as 1 (which had mine identifiers of PowerMac10,1 and 10,2), and don’t count the server Mac minis, then I count 12 Mac mini models, despite what their identifier numbers were.

#2 backs up the idea that they plan to rethink the mini as part of the same direct product family as the Studio, instead of the Studio being an mini inspired pro workstation.
