Call me crazy, but I'm over all of this 'third party keyboard' stuff.

I've tried a few, and I always did love Swype on my old android phones.. But anymore I just want to use the stock iOS keyboard. It works well. No unnecessary frills, no confusion.

I could get into a keyboard that just reads my thoughts but really, I'd hope humanity becomes extinct before we have to put up with that and the glaring potential issues involved with it.

---It's called dictation ---That's about as close as I think we will ever (or need to for that matter) get to mind reading!

In case you were wondering why you now have the vague desire to watch Back To the Future, that generic advertisement music becomes Huey Lewis' "The Power of Love" 34 seconds in. Compare the music here to the music here.

I noticed this as well - even from the beginning, how similar it was. Then I heard that part in the middle. Jacked!!

I couldn't agree more. It's $5 and the people most likely to complain are the same ones who probably go to Starbucks and drop even more on something they literally end up p*ssing out.

We live in such an entitled society that (some) people seem to forget there is something called VALUE, ignoring someone's hardwork (and ideas) is a-ok in their books and getting everything for free is the way to go.

Sad really....

I agree with most of your sentiment, however, value is worth $5, but you don't know if it is valuable to you until you try it. It is possible to get a refund from the iTunes Store though and a lot of people don't realize that. Therefore the negative comments about pricing.

While I agree that apps should def not be stolen and people shouldn't have an issue paying for apps, there are SO MANY of them! It is quite addictive to many people to want to try out such cool and empowering apps, but if they are left unsatisfied then that sours their taste for trying out apps at $5 a pop and sometimes so many at $1 each. It adds up.

A lot of people save up for their phones and earn them or are given to them. Just because they can't afford to frivolously keep throwing out $1 5 times a day or $5 several times a week/month does not mean they are cheap or don't deserve to have an iPhone or several valuable apps.

It's the not knowing that a lot of people have a hard time with either because they are jaded or are smart enough not to risk the money without being sure (trying the app out).

Full disclosure - I have many frivolous apps I have paid for and don't use myself. I will continue to do so as well. I just happen to have the money AND understand where they are coming from because I have been there.

Also... most people are NOT the ones who buy Starbucks and then complain about $1 apps - myself for one. Horrible assumption.

100 wpm? Great, more word salad messages. I hope it has a non-idiot mode for those times when a person needs to communicate.

LOL, so people are entitled because they want to try an app before spending hard-earned money on it?

I suppose I'm an entitled freeloader who has no idea of VALUE because I want to test drive a car before buying it? Or when I buy something off craigslist, sometimes I feel entitled to plug it in and try it out. I'm such a bad person... :(

I got a headache just watching that clip. Hope this doesn't bring on any seizures with all that animation. :D

Watching the video gave me a headache. I would only give this a try if it were free. This looks like a sure way to get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Look at those fingers go

Is any of it even understandable afterwards i wonder, or would it be all gibberish ?

(I only watched it for the music :D)

Why do people freak out over this? It's not a big deal. It's not full access to your nude photos or something.

The bigger crime is 5 bucks for the app. Without a free trial, it's hard to drop 5 bucks on something I might try and not like. Keyboards are tricky and very personal, if it's good, the app is definitely worth the money. Otherwise it's a huge gamble.

I agree with your first point. Totally disagree with the second.

We spend so much money on the actual phone.. Why do people trip out over a few bucks for software someone spent countless hours working on?

You spend five dollars on a egg mcmuffin from McDonalds. You shouldn't even be eating that! (They are delicious though :D)

bought it this morning... it's tough to get my mind around how you have to type to use this keyboard properly. I need to keep practicing, that's for sure.

I've gotta say this, it's insane the amount of customization that it allows, and in an odd way, once you spend some time using it... it doesn't seem all that cluttered. The themes are really sweet, just wish it let me save my own custom themes.

You can tell A LOT of time went into making it, hopefully the dev will continue to update and make it better, it does crash a bit and has some other minor glitches... but this really is worth the $5 IMO.

I also am having trouble figuring out how to remove the NIN logo on the spacebar, there is an option that says something like, I don't like the logo, but no matter what setting I choose, it's still there. Hm

**EDIT**
N/M I was being stupid lol

Bought it

Bought this app, defiantly not for me. Not accurate, looks like it was designed by a 5th grader with a anime obsession. $5 isn't a lot of money, but I feel like I had the bill in my pocket and dropped it somewhere between work and 7/11 never to be seen again.

Would NOT recommend.

This is ridiculous, but I am unable to understand how you do a hash tag from the tutorial. Of course this means I can move on in the tutorial. I'm finding watching some of the finger movements on the tutorial had to follow. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Been typing in a notepad for last hour trying to get used to it. Autocorrect is useless. Basically you gotta get words right on your own. Dunno if the topbar is useful or not...i cant tell if I am typing faster than Swifykey. Sooooo many options it's intimidating. The few I changed I can't tell if it's even making a change. Less is sometimes more.

FYI:
if the keyboard doesn't appear when you are trying to type into a textbox, don't blame the developer, that's all on Apple.
Very true. Hopefully Apple will get serious and fix the problem
iOS 8.1.1 didn't fix it, Apple's struggling with this most basic of failures. Certainly they've got one engineer or more with the fundametal skills to fix it.

I wonder how much they paid MacRumors to put the advertisement on the front page...

The developer did work full time on this for almost a year though, so regardless of where MacRumors chooses to feature it, I think he deserves a bit of recognition for his incredibly hard work.

I was lucky enough to get to use NinType as my primary keyboard from the time it was first released on Cydia all the way until now, as an official 3rd party keyboard for iOS 8, so I'd love to answer any questions anyone might have about how to use it!

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "word salad messages". Do you mean like the ridiculous strings of words that people get from mashing all the suggested words with the stock keyboard? If so, NinType fixes that by allowing you to decide what the top bar does by accessing the Top Bar Settings menu (by holding on the button on the top left of the keyboard, then sliding down to "topbar options").

There you can do things like the height of the top bar, what it displays (such as auto-complete suggestions or similar words, etc.) or even just get rid of the top bar completely.

As for "non-idiot" mode, NinType allows you to type by tapping individual letters just like any other keyboard. This is called "peck typing mode" and can be switched on and off by tapping the top right-most button on the keyboard.

You can turn those off, if you'd like! By holding down on the spacebar, you can access the themes menu to choose another preset (or turn off individual effects) or even turn on Zen Mode, which disables all animations in favor of saving battery life.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The themes are really sweet, just wish it let me save my own custom themes.

Unfortunately, Apple places a (pretty vague) memory limitation on 3rd party keyboards, so saving individual themes isn't viable yet as it would take up too much RAM for Apple to allow.

I also am having trouble figuring out how to remove the NIN logo on the spacebar, there is an option that says something like, I don't like the logo, but no matter what setting I choose, it's still there. Hm

Under the "Visuals and Appearance" section of the settings, at the very bottom, there's an option to turn the Nin logo on or off. However, turning it off simply replaces it with other messages (like "HOLD FOR MENU"), so as far as I know there's no way to get a completely blank spacebar....

Of course it's not for everyone, but if the visuals and effects are your main gripe, you can easily turn them off by activation Zen Mode (or turn of individual effects from the Themes menu).

You can insert a # sign by swiping from the return key to the left, and then back to the return key in one fluid motion. The idea is that you're making a sort of "criss-cross" kind of pattern with your finger, similar to a # symbol.

Concerning your autocorrect woes - would you happen to have autospace turned on? This isn't a particularly helpful feature unless you're typing with just one finger (like a normal Swype keyboard) and can often make typing accurately more difficult than it needs to be. However, though it includes an english dictionary of words, you'll probably find that you have to teach it quite a lot of new words by peck typing them once. I've found that by patiently adding words as I use them (when I notice that typing them normally isn't producing the result I want) I've been able to customize the dictionary to the point where it knows practically every word in my vocabulary and has no problem at all with autocorrect.

With NinType, less certainly is more. There's admittedly an enormous amout of customization options available, but the great thing is that you can just leave the majority of them alone, and still do great! Thankfully, there's a reset button for just about every set of settings, so if you do happen to mess something up while playing around with the settings, it's easy to reset them to default.

Another thing to consider is that you can turn the top bar off completely if it's bothering you (see above), or turn on the WPM counter from the spacebar menu if you'd like to see how quickly you're typing.

Please let me know if you have any more questions, I'd love to help! ^__^

Ace, thank you.

Not freaking out, just no point in granting a dev theoretical access to stuff I type.
Yes, I could switch to other keyboards, but why, when offline keyboards do the job, too.

Agree about the need for a demo though.
5 bucks is a price at which you get very considerate between all those 99 cent apps.
In a store, with a box around it and maybe even with a persuasive sale sticker on it the price would fly better with people's perception of price I take it.

Dear god. When they said you won't have to look at the keyboard they really meant you CAN'T look at the keyboard without having a seizure.

Honest question: What purpose do the disco rave lights serve? They said you aren't even looking at the keyboard so what the heck is all that noise even for?

Probably peripheral sight.
